Which character is your favorite in this novel & why?

My favorite character in the novel is Lisbeth. She is very mysterious, is hard to discover what is going to be her next move, and clever. Her story is very sad and frustrating because what happened to Lisbeth happens in real world. When I am reading the novel I think to myself how many are suffering now, meanwhile I am comfortable reading a novel at home? It makes me mad towards teachers that never understood Lisbeth, I want to be a very good teacher and hope to never hurt any student. Sometimes people are mistaken from who they are because of their clothes/style. Clothing says little about a person.

All true Gaby, and great you're going to be a teacher. My favorite is Lisbeth as well. Though I like all the 'good guys' in this.
Lisbeth, hands down.
Lizbeth of course. The complexity and strength of her character is what makes the book riveting.
Lisbeth, for sure. Her complex personality makes her thinking process and consequent actions so unpredictable and interesting!
I agree - Lisbeth. I haven't seen the film(s) yet. Does her character come across accurately in them. It would really spoil it for me if she is portrayed wrongly.

Lisbeth for sure. She's smart, she's tough, and I love her attitude. She's my favorite literary character hands down.
Salander. b/c she did not conform to the norm. She stayed true to who she was until the end. I didn't like how she almost was going to give that up to fall in love with Blomkvist
But she did fall in love with Blomkvist - she just chose not to persue it - that what i gathered from the end of the 1st book, when she bought the Elvis decoration to give to him and throwned in to the trash when she saw him and Erica all cozy: i call that jealousy at least and in order to have jealousy she had to have felt something towards him.
Even if she had ended up with Mikael I don't think she would have given anything up because of him. She was always true to herself even when she spent time with him-she fell for him because he liked her the way she was-he wouldn't have wanted her to change-especially for him.
Yes, she would not change herself for him, in anyway....but Mickael is the sort of man that would not expect or like that: he liked her and had her just the way she was and he made no demands, whatsoever.
I love them both, but I actually find that I like Blomkvist more. Not as smart, a little more naive, but able to trust.I agree with many people who admire Salander for not conforming, to being a powerful moral person, but I think the same is true for Mikael. He accepts Salander for who she is, he stays true to himself, he is loyal, and stands for all the right things.
Larsson's originl book was titled "Men who Hate Women" and that theme runs throughout his mysteries, but Blomkvist stands athwart such an attitude. Providing in his own way a role model almost as valuable as the independant and fierce Salander.
I like both Mikael and Lisbeth. I agree with Richard. The royalty they have for each other is amazing. I did not like the other women characters in the book except Harriet. The others seem cold. Harriet seems to be the only one with some warmth. I don't understand Mikael's choices, but then again I am a woman.
Love Lisbeth~ she is one bad ass bitch.
Richard - here, the book was really titled Men Who Hate Women, which i think has more to do woth the book than the English title.

Lisbeth Salander. The mysterious nature of her character kept me hooked on to the book.

Lisbeth Salander, obviously. But it's because I'm like her (even though I'm a guy) in the sense that people see what I look and dress like and my quiet nature, but they literally don't know who they're f---ing with. I never judge anyone and it takes a lot to piss me off. But I have a unique perspective of someone who is usually not taken seriously, therefore hold a lot of people's secrets.
I'm also embarrassed to say that Martin was a character I liked a lot. His back story of being a melancholy boy who may or may not turn out like his messed up father, his eventual triumphant role of leading the company, and his seemingly sympathetic and compassionate nature earned my respect. But, well, you know...

I am struggling to think of another female character like Lisbeth that resonates so strongly...maybe Elizabeth Bennet :-)

Lisabeth. Her reactions to everything are unpredictable in comparison to other female lead characters. She's badass.

Lisbeth, without a shred of a doubt. She's an absolutely amazing character with so many twists and turns inside of her.
Lisabeth is the one and only reason I MAY read the second installment.
Lisbeth is AWESOME. She's strong, smart, and doesn't give a crap what people think. She refuses to conform to any kind of social norm, and always holds true to what she believes. Plus she kicks ass when needed.
I actually liked the second book more because it devoted more time to Lisbeth. The first book seemed to make Lisbeth more of a minor character and we don't really get to know her until toward the end. I did get a little irritated with Blomkvist and all the women who kept falling in bed with him.
Lisbeth, certainly. I have searched various web sites for possible leads on a similar character, and there just isn't anything out there. She is one of a kind. I am like the author in that I am disgusted with the real life abuse of women - so yes, a woman like Lisbeth really does it for me.
The thing about Lisbeth is the character caused me to question myself. If I met Lisbeth on the street how would I feel about her? Would I look down on her because of her appearance? Would I avoid her like the plague without ever knowing her story or her intelligence? Even in the book remember she is hard to like, she is sullen and distrustful (rightfully so).
What a character! My favorite by far.
Without a doubt, Lisbeth. Her complexity, vulnerability and intensity were riveting and page-turning in their own right. Having completed the trilogy, and with the author gone from us, I will miss her in my life. ;) Though she was deeply flawed - damaged goods, in a way - you felt for her at every turn, with every decision that was forced upon her. The films are good, but can in no way penetrate her deep-set pathos.
Obviously it's Lisbeth. She was so emotionally complex and unsure. I found it wonderful how this brilliant and caring person could think so lowly of herself and rely so much on what other's thought of her. But in spite of that weakness she was a very strong female character who was sure of what she wanted and what she wanted to do. She was a fun character to read.

I like Lisbeth. She is a complex character. Dark and strange. Highly intelligent. A petite female who can kick some serious ass. Love it.
I'm probably one of the few people that did not enjoy this book. It was too harsh and brittle for me. I did not like the Swedish setting. I bought the other two of the series, but did not read them. My husband read all three and liked them very much.
Lisbeth. A strong, independent character dealing with reality as one should. Damaged and hurt, in danger, still never bending. Taking her share out of circumstances she did not initiate, never trusting authorities. I love her. The world should have more of girls like her.

this, I agree with this. while he was a tad bit more naïve and less willing to do things on the darker end of the spectrum, he did provide a safe place for Lisbeth to be herself. what I liked more about the relationship was that love was apparent but it wasn't forced, it was natural so it added to the believability that he was actually a good guy trying to help.
or maybe it's because I'm a guy idk haha
I'm conflicted between the obvious choices, Mikael and Lisbeth, and there are features of their characters that I really don't like. But what Lisbeth did to her social worker positively made me cheer like I was in a stadium watching a game
Lisbeth Salander indeed. Her focused sense of purpose, her razor sharp intelligence,her no non-sense persona and of course her passionate bonding with Michael.
I don't know if I already replied to this thread before but I have no shame in doing it again. My favourite character besides Lisbeth (#1) and Mikael (#2) is Plague.
My favorite character has to be Lisbeth also. She kicks butt!
