Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) Well at least there's a link between the definition of attractiveness and orgasms so we're pretty much spot on lol, barring a few aberrant randomnities.

I think the problem with people is
that they are brainwashed.
The minute we are born, we have ideas
crammed down our throat about what to believe,
what not to believe,
what's beautiful,
and what's not.

Give me the definition of beautiful.
Some would say, looks.
Some would say personality.
And that's fine.
But at the same time it's not.

Who is anyone to say what is beautiful or what is not.
Of course, everyone is guilty of it. I am, too.

Who are we to whisper, "He/She is so ugly!"
Behind someone's back?

What makes them "ugly" as opposed to someone who is "beautiful".

Personality.....maybe.
Looks.......possibly.

But then again, who are we to judge ones personality?

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) It's called a Socially acceptable Frame of Reference, and it attempts to 'enlighten' us about 'the way things are', but the one thing nobody tells us is that it's not definitive, we have to find that out ourselves, if we can. People think that having a SAFOR is safer than not having one; yes it helps you define the world around you, but it also perpetuates existing 'broken' perceptions.

This is a good topic. Let me see if I have anything good to contribute.

I find beauty to be in personality. No matter how you look on the outside, someone will find you attractive. Some have more people finding them attractive, others have less. But there's always someone. However, personality is what draws someone in further. You can be labeled as being the "most gorgeous" person, but that's all you'd be without a good personality. It's like looking at a supermodel. Sure, she might be gorgeous. But when you look at a picture of that supermodel... that's all she is. She's confident, but nothing more than a pretty face.
Although I will say that confidence is one thing that makes someone beautiful. There's nothing more attractive than looking and being comfortable in your own skin. However, that brings up the thing about being comfortable in your own skin.
I think it's all in how you see yourself. Like me, I look at myself and I shove all the thoughts of how I could look better out of my mind and focus on how I look now. All you have to do is replace the image of your ideal body with your image now and bam! you see yourself different in a much better way. I'll admit, there's some things about me I would change. I'd want to loose what little bit of weight I have left too lose(sad I know, cause I only weigh around 110 lbs), have a larger chest, not such a fat butt, etc.. But honestly the good outweighs the bad. I've got beautiful hair, nice eyes, I'm thin, I'm somewhat fit, I've got skin that's usually clear, and I'm neither a stick or overweight. I'm healthy.
That brings me to another subject... obesity. I find nothing wrong with being overweight, except for the health impact it has. On the other hand, the same can be said for those that are underweight. For example: I know someone who used to be a model. She was pressured into an unhealthy diet to stay thin. If you looked at her when I met her, she was way overweight and unhealthy. It took her a ton of exercise, hydration, balanced meals, etc. for her to loose weight again after that.
So it seems to me that all you have to do is aim for a healthy body. If you try and have a low weight, there's a chance you'll try the wrong way and end up with your health being at risk. If you end up overweight, there are plenty of health problems that come with that. So I say shoot for whatever makes you feel healthy, because everyone is different.
That brings me to something from my modeling classes.
People now want to see people who look natural. That's what the market for models is right now, at least in the central states and the somewhat more north-eastern part of things. They want pretty, attractive, but fairly normal people! Gone are the days of "perfection" being wanted. People are more open to people looking different. Individuality is big right now. Look at it this way: there is no physical definition for the word attractive. The definition of attractive is: Having the power to attract. Pleasing/appealing to the eye and mind.
Clearly the definition isn't, "Blonde hair, blue eyes, skinny, etc." That's not the definition of the word "attractive". All the definition says is having the power to attract(which can be done both through good looks and through personality) and appealing to the eye and mind. Everyone sees others in different ways. One person might think you ugly, someone else might see you as the prettiest person on the planet.
Basically what this all boils down to is all you need is confidence(be comfortable in your own skin!), be healthy, and have a good personality. Even then, it doesn't matter how you look because someone will find you attractive.

Sorry that's so long. O.O

Kiyuto~Nyan ❤☪☮E✡☥☯✞❤ [Kony 2012] (IHaveDiedEveryDayWaitingForYou) | 564 comments I personally find people attractive for their personality. Although there is one physical feature I like. Eyes. You can usually tell what someone is like through there eyes. But beautiful eyes don't always mean a beautiful personality. There's this guy at school that has the prettiest eyes, but he is a HUGE jerk. There's a certain kind of beautiful that I look for. It's almost impossible to find anymore...

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) Lynx wrote: "Sorry that's so long. O.O"

But beautifully written and very true, thanks for returning the discussion to it's point of origin Lynx:D

Sure, we tend to gravitate towards what we see as physically attractive, it's the first response . it's only later when we engage that we have the opportunity to see the person behind the physical, that we ultimately find whether or not this person is who s/her seemed to be and whether or not it is worthwhile proceeding further.

Not a problem!

Exactly, Woolfie. :)

s•u•n•s•h•i•n•e «§KENZ§» I think beauty is something that media has been trying to destroy for years. Women do not need to starve themselves to be beautiful! My opinion is thata healthy body is the most beautiful body. Which does not include starving oneself or puking up everything one eats in order to be as skinny as the media seems to think we should be. Screw the media.

(Ahhh! I'm ranting! I should not be allowed to type things this late/early in the night/morning...)

I think a push needs to be made to promote individualism as beauty. Beauty should be being comfortable with oneself, being accept yourself for who you are and not having to feel an extreme pressure to change who you are in order to 'fit in'. 'Fitting in' is overrated anyways. It is bland, and I personally have had enough of it. I want to see someone who is beautiful inside and out. Inside, because they try to be the best they can be; outside, because they believe they are beautiful in their own right. That should be beauty.

s•u•n•s•h•i•n•e «§KENZ§» Thank you. Oh yes, I had an idea... Remembering.... Right!

It will be put out there, mark my words!

s•u•n•s•h•i•n•e «§KENZ§» I haven't thought about that one so much before (men's protrayal in media), but you are absolutely right. I think it's improving slightly (as is for women), but not by much, and certainly not enough. I will dig into this further.

Well said! Children should be off-limits. Particularly to emotionally unstable women.

Marlene (marlene1001) | 403 comments When I just think about those little girls, who are forced into highheels and make up when they´re only 4 years old, I have a feeling I´ll get sick. Just look at the stars´ daughters! I don´t say they´re all like that, but there are enough.
I saw a show about girl-models recently. The kids were maybe 5! And they are used like puppets with freaky dresses and make up! That´s really scary. And the worst thing: They WANT that! They were so brainwashed by their parents, that they want to be like this!
Every girl has this "I want to become a princess" phase, but the parents shouldn´t encourage that to the extreme!

Marlene (marlene1001) | 403 comments That show was more about how people SHOULDN´T do that to kids and I can just agree to that. It´s just horrible!

No, like for my choir we have to wear ball dresses. Yeah, like sweeping down to the floor dress with verrrrry low neck cuts. -_- so, apparently they tried a two, then a one and a 0 was the only one that fit me.

Lil' Miss Blaze ~Boss 1~ wrote: "O_O <- Opinion.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a size zero. If you're a size zero for a dress though, that's a bit on the thin side. But as long as you're healthy it doesn't matter. One of my sisters eats a ton of food. She used to never gain weight at all because when she was little she had medical problems that resulted in her not having all of her intestines because some had to be removed. She has just enough to live now, any less and she wouldn't have been able to. Unless she eats a lot of junk food and never exercises, she can't gain weight at all. Up until last year she was a size zero because of it. But then she went to visit my grandma and grandpa for a couple months, ate their pasta and junk food diet(my grandpa and uncle don't like eating any green food and eat loads of pasta and burritos and stuff) and she now fits a size 2-4.... :P She says she wears a size one, but I wear a size four and she has a bigger chest and waist than me so I think she's wrong. Whoa, that was longer than I thought. You probably didn't need to hear any of that. I'm just saying there's nothing wrong with wearing a size zero as long as you're healthy. Oh, how tall are you? Because if you're short I know a lot of people who wear a size zero and are short.

Varian Rose I watched a clip from "Toddlers and Tiaras" and now feel physically sick. That is so disgusting and makes me want to be violent towards these people. I...just...I hate the media, how it's screwed up what the word "beautiful" means.

I hate how it seems to say "you must wear low-cut shirts/dresses or you aren't a woman." I'm studying to go into the journalism field, and I feel like I will be taken more seriously if I dress modestly. I dress modestly because I want guys to notice my personality, my heart, my mind, before they notice my body.

I look at how screwed up "beauty" has become and want to scream "stop the world, I want to get off."

"Oh, look at that teen on TV. How did she get there? She got pregnant and she got on TV!! Maybe if I get pregnant then I can have my own show on TV too. I'll be famous!"

Varian Rose Agreed. Those shows about teen moms disgust me...maybe there was an intention of showing the reality of being a teen parent at first, but based on the little I've seen (before leaving the room in dusgust), it became another show that had drama just to create drama.

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) Reality shows both pander to Joe and Jane Public, and also seem to tell them, 'look you losers, here;s how to get famous, just get knocked up when you're underage and you too can be on TV!' I just wonder if they stop 'celebratising' it, and really focus on the issues and strain of unplanned parenthood, all the glamous that sugar coats it will just flake away.

Jasmine | ModernScrolls (modernscrolls) Ugh, that's so true!
