I just wanted to check in and get a feel for whether y'all have gotten your hands on the January book, Violets of March. I was a tad worried about this one, as the library system here in my neck of the woods (Montgomery County, Maryland) didn't have it, so I wsn't sure what the West Coast situtation was. Fortunately, Mums found a copy at Half-Price books in Seattle, read it, and brought it with her when she visited in December. Otherwise (gasp!) I would have had to BUY it and support (gasp again!) the publishing industry.

On that note, I did actually buy the February book, Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine, with the Auntie Cheryl B&N gift card. Sometiems playing games with the library ain't worth it, and as I enter my busy season at work, I don't want to deal with queues and holds and pick ups and timing it all just right!

So. Do we all have a copy of Violets of March?

Julie | 168 comments In Seattle, probably because it's local, there are 49 holds on 19 copies at the library. So I will be trolling amazon or half price books in the near future!

I've got a copy. My library had a couple copies here for us readers. I also have a copy of Tartar Cuisine on hold.

I've been debating ordering Amazon Prime, and then we could order a book every month (that lasts a month on our Kindle's). The Prime costs something like $79.00 per year. Can also get the benefits of 2 day free shipping and stuff like that. I haven't researched it very thoroughly yet, but trying to decide if the cost if worth it....

Lauren | 251 comments I have it on hold with both the Pasadena and Los Angeles systems. Pasadena's hold list is huge, but it looks like I'll have a copy from LA within the week. That said, I'm keeping my name on both lists until I have the book in my hot little hands.

As for Tartar Cuisine, well, the Los Angeles Public Library just listed it as one of their books of 2011, so I have a feeling the hold list just got a whole lot longer ...

I hadn't checked my library list for a few days, and I just did and Tartar Cuisine is in transit. Go figure. So now I'll have both of them.... :-)

Alisha Rivera | 145 comments I need to put a hold on it. There's no way to get it through Long Beach library system, so I joined Los Angeles as well. I think that ended up being the same situation for a next few books. If hold lists look too long, I've got a Barnes and Noble gift card I can put to good use!

Lauren | 251 comments FYI: Sarah Jio is in the middle of a book tour for her latest book (see if she'll be near you: http://www.sarahjio.com/events/ ). She's going to be at a bookstore near me next week, and I'm going to try and go.

What a great idea...I'll look it up.

I'm about 1/5 - 1/4 into it, and am enjoying it very
much so far. GOOD PICK!

I'd like a little more indepth take on my Vreeland pick. It's called Luncheon of the Boating Party. Got kinda curious about it, so checked it out and have been listening to it. I'm not a big French person, and there is a lot of French included in the text of the book. I know I have a few of your email addresses, but if you could send me the others, there is a picture of the painting on the cover, and there is a diagram that shows who the people are he is painting, and so while we are reading the book, you will be able to see who he is talking about. I could email you a copy of this diagram that is an outline of the heads with a number and a small bio about each person. That might make it more interesting for me too. I've ordered a copy so I can send it to you. Let me know what you think. CJC

Lauren, were you able to make the book tour for Sarah Jio. I wished she was coming my direction, but no, so enjoy it for those of us that won't be able to. I finished her book yesterday, and really enjoyed it. Have heard others that have read other works have enjoyed them as well. Will enjoy chatting it up with you next week! Carol

Now need to start Fahrenheit 451 for another club, and Tarter Cuisine. Was lucky enough to get a copy, but am afraid I won't get to keep it very long. Am enjoying Luncheon of the Boating Party. It's growing on me. Listening to it a couple times, and I'll sent you some supplemental material that will help to make it more interesting--when closer to my turn.

Julie | 168 comments Carol- have you read Fahrenheit 451? It was the very first book I ever read for college. I will be interested to hear what you thought about it! It sure stirred some interesting debates in my freshman class.

Yep, reading it now. One of the gals in my group here picked that book. I've not read it, so I'm intrigued what the story will bring. Thanks for the referral.

I just talked to Mums, to remind her that she's our fearless leader on Violets of March, come Feb. 1.

And I won't lie. I'm not crazy about this book. Still have about 80 pages to go. Siiiiiiigh.

Lauren | 251 comments Not crazy about this book either - glad to hear I'm not the only one.

I did not manage to make it to the Sarah Jio event. I need more hours in the day.
