Thanks for this! "The Twilight Zone" is one of my favorite shows of all time and I was contemplating buying them on Blu-Ray. Now it looks like I might have to! Lots of great time travel stuff in that series, it almost deserves its own thread.

"A Kind of a Stopwatch" is a fun one. "The Last Flight," with the World War 1 pilot who shows up in present day (present day being 1959) is one of my favorites too.

Howard Loring (howardloringgoodreadscom) | 1177 comments Tej, have you yet seen Buster Keaton's Time Traveling hat?

Just wondering if it's included in your Blu Ray.

Tej (theycallmemrglass) | 1731 comments Mod
Oh yes indeed I have and its one that I am waiting to see again as I plough through the series but that's in season 3. I'm watching all the episodes chronologically and going quite slowish with it because I am soaking in all the extra commentaries and Serling lectures etc. I'll be sure to talk about the Keaton episode when I get to it :) I remember loving the sight of seeing old Buster doing silent comedy. Must have been a special geek moment in the 60s for Keaton fans in those days. Do you reckon Doc Brown's mind reading hat is a little nod to that Keaton episode?

message 54: by Howard (new)

Howard Loring (howardloringgoodreadscom) | 1177 comments Tej, now that's a connection that I hadn't made.

Come to think of it they kinda look the same.

By the by, being from the UK, I wouldn't think you'd know that Jessie White was an icon here, well known for his always bland but perfect delivery.

Stanley Adams is also well known for his vast range, both in comedy & drama.

He was, for instance, in 'The Lillies of the Fields' & also had some trouble with Tribbles in the original Star Trek.

Keaton, of course, was a genius, no doubting that.

Mike Miller (mikeemiller) | 12 comments I've been watching all the newer Doctor Who? episodes with the family. We've actually never watched them before and they're pretty good. I was worried in season one, but they've gotten a lot better, I think.

Paul (paullev) | 829 comments On individual time travel episodes in a non-time-travel series - my two all-time favorites are "City on the Edge of Forever" and "Assignment Earth" in Star Trek: TOS.

And here's a wild one: "LA 2017" from The Name of the Game - about a publisher in 1971 who travels to 2017. The episode, which aired in 1971, was directed by Steven Spielberg.

what a great curio, I just had to look that one up. Its not available anywhere so it will just have to be one of those knowledge canon for me. But I so wish I could see it. Columbo and Duel are the only TV stuff I've seen directed by Spielberg.

City on the edge forever was my favourite too but that got knocked off its perch by The Constant (the great Desmond/Daniel/Penny Lost episode.

Howard Loring (howardloringgoodreadscom) | 1177 comments So, I loved the old 'Outer Limits' but hadn't seen many of the new ones.

Big mistake given I've found this one on TT & I think it's great, with a fast pace (a must for me), wonderful acting (Amanda Plummer is my girlfriend in another Timeframe, I wish) & a nice mixing of genres.

I did see the end coming, but that's OK given the other qualites & it was well worth a look see.

I have a Youtube link but for some reason it starts about 10 seconds in, but all you miss is the man pulling at the pictures just enters the room & the date (1966) is flashed up.

Here's the link, quality not the best but still very good, I think:

Paul (paullev) | 829 comments Tej wrote: "City on the edge forever was my favourite too but that got knocked off its perch by The Constant (the great Desmond/Daniel/Penny Lost episode."

The Constant is superb indeed, and more powerful intellectually and even emotionally than City. My slight preference for City stems from the weakness I have for time travel stories in which characters struggle to change real, major events in public history - in contrast to struggles on the personal level.

Tej wrote: "[LA 2017] is not available anywhere so it will just have to be one of those knowledge canon for me. But I so wish I could see it."

It could crop on YouTube or some site similar someday - or even be released on DVD - if there is a surviving film in some canister somewhere. I saw the episode at least twice - once during its initial broadcast, and again either in summer rerun, or maybe syndication somewhere

Paul, the Outer Limits episode I mentioned has both of these elements.

Also Michelle Forbes of Star Trek fame.

Howard Loring (howardloringgoodreadscom) | 1177 comments Well I hate to dwell, but I looked up the OL TT episode to see who wrote it.

Never heard of him or the director, but did learn that Amanda Plummer won an Emmy for it.

They should have given her two.

OK, I'm done.

I am not a Doctor Who fan as such but I do enjoy random episodes here and there and did follow every episode up to the third season (I am talking of the modern resurrection beginning with Eccleston as the Doctor, not the really old stuff). My problem with this series is that, although its about the adventures of a Time Lord, there isnt really any proper cohesion with time travel, its frankly stupid, nothing really makes sense.

However, I hear many of you talking about an episode called "Blink" which I had not seen. So I just watched this on Netflix.

Pretty damn good. I really enjoyed that. At last, a proper time travel story. Scary, very funny, poignant in parts with delicious time travel candy. I liked the Back to the Future 2 reference, when the grandson reaches into his jacket to pull out a letter.

Worthy episode to go on a best time travel episodes list. Not my favourite thought. There too many episodes, mostly from various Star Trek incarnations that would go ahead of it in my list.

This week's episode of "Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura" was about time travel: http://entertainment.gather.com/viewA.... It sounds kind of interesting. I've never heard of the show, so I don't know if it's meant to be fiction or if someone really thinks these conspiracy theories are true, but here's a short synopsis:

"Apparently the United States government has been using time travel for decades, and it is the 'deepest, darkest secret that the US possesses.' One 'expert' even says that the President of the United States is picked twenty to thirty years in advance by a time traveler."

I saw a preview for this, but missed it when it aired. So I just finished watching it online, and I must say I was very disappointed. All the people they interviewed are crazy. And at the top of the loony list is Andrew Basiago. If he was truely at Gettysburg with Lincoln, why couldn't he take a camera of his own and get a few polaroids as proof.

Natalie (bartlebead) | 18 comments Several episodes of "Supernatural" contain time travel--Frontierland, The Song Remains the Same, In the Beginning, Time After Time, and As Time Goes By. In Frontierland, Sam and Dean have to find Samuel Colt in the old West. In Time after Time, Dean inadvertently hitches back to 192? with Elliott Ness. They're especially fun episodes.

message 73: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (bartlebead) | 18 comments It's not as scary as it seems. :-). They only have 42 minutes, after all, for the whole episode to unfold, develop, and resolve! (The first season was the scariest.) Why don't you try Frontierland on its own first? -- I think that one will make sense enough without all the seasons behind it, especially if you take a quick look at the Wikipedia article on it first so you know who the people are. If you like it, you might like the whole show. I love it!

I would have so wanted to see Twin Peaks but apparantly it ends in a cliff hanger and I dont want to suffer that frustration. I did actually see the film Fire Walk with me which was interesting but I think its a prequel and not wrap up feature.

I didn't think that it ended on a cliff-hanger at all. Something does happen to one of the main characters the very end, but it's obvious what direction that will take in the future considering what has occurred when others experienced the same thing. I thought it was a fine (and sort of inevitable) ending. I've heard that any unanswered questions left by the series are answered in the book written by Lynch's daughter as well as the prequel movie. I've honestly become quite a fan of the series in a way that I really haven't about many other shows. It's quirk and dark side is a very nice mix.

The story: A man is in a car crash, and awakens to find his wife alive, his son dead. Goes to sleep, awakens to find his son alive, his wife dead. This goes back and forth - also he is a police detective, so solves cases in both "realities", which often are related to each other in various ways. Good show.

I watched the first couple of episodes of that show last year, its great. Unfortunately it joins the long list of fatalaties of not living longer than a season. It apparently gets some sort of conclusion but of course most probably a rushed one...Gertie, maybe you can tell us? Star Trek Animated Series: Season 1: Episode 2, Yesteryear

I think a few folks have heard of a television series called Star Trek but fewer knows about the animated series voiced by almost all of the same regular cast as the 1960s live action series.

This particular episode is a wonderful time travel character journey about Spock. I dont know if the animated series is considered part of the Star Trek continuity but I find that episodes I've seen fits in nicely with the know ST universe. Yes, of course the animation is a dated but there is a lot soul emitted, even from a "logical" Spock centric episode. Dialogue can be stilted even from the vintage cast but the strength of story telling overcomes those flaws. I have to say though, as much as the time travel element is fun, its a bit ridiculous but that's missing the point.

Enjoy, you can watch it here on CBS archive, you damn lucky Americans. I cant :(

There were several elements in it that seemed cliche for a TV crime drama that deals with the paranormal/time travel/out-of-the-ordinary, including the usual ending water-muddier "oh, _crazy-person-here_ left something behind, let me go give this to them... hey! where'd they go? they disappeared! Maybe they were a ghost/alien/time traveler after all..."

That was all kinda standard and expected... until (view spoiler). That was actually well-played, I thought.

Have any of you watched Marvel's The Runaways? It's a very fine Marvel universe series about a group of specially talented teenagers who have to face a very harsh reality about their parents and existence. When it was cancelled, the series developers were able to wrap up all main storylines (very bloody rare for that to happen!).

And they did so in a highly entertaining final episode with...time travel! The time travel

It's obvious that the series had so much more story to tell if it was granted further seasons so things might look rushed but all things considered it's a blast.

All the typical Back to the Future 2 complexities are thrown into the mix here.

It's a shame this series ended but I am glad it least had the rare honour of making an ending and doing so with fun in mind.

I watched this on Disney Plus UK when we finally got the third season only two weeks ago, despite you guys in US having it since a year ago, I think. I waited so long for it and it was worth it.

I am watching reruns of the series FRINGE, which I love for its often provocative, science-based suspense and scenarios and great cast. While it happens in our time, there are mysterious, bald 'observers', which will eventually be revealed to come from the future, while a parallel civilisation slightly different from ours (an alternate universe in the same time period) will be shown.

It features the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz traveling through a time storm and landing on December 6th, 1941 at Pearl Harbor. I really enjoyed it as much as I did the movie.
Will the Nimitz bring it's power to bear on the Japanese Fleet and change the course of history or not?
