Manda The Panda (mandapanda17) | 2 comments I couldn't get near a book when I was little. I didn't really read until I was 13. The first big book that I read was White Fang. I really liked that book. That was a long book for me at the time.

Are you thinking up # three? You can't rest on your laurels. I bet you have a new book up your sleeve but haven't unbuttoned the cuffs yet..nina

Hello Nina,

I am not yet thinking of book three. I am busy finalizing Royal Serf and preparing the submission requirements so the book creation process can begin.

Take care. Best regards.

Teresa | 3 comments I know I was reading by the time I started school, the first real book, with chapters I remember was Little Women, and I read it in the third grade, funny part was that my teacher in 1st grade didn't really believe I could read because I couldn't spell. I still can't. Anyway, my mom went to school, and told the teacher that I read very well, and the teacher said again that she didn't believe it, so mom told her to give me the magazine that was on her desk and ask me to read something out of it. I did...Teacher was amazed, and didn't doubt my reading anymore.

Hello Teresa.

message 58: by Maria (new)

Maria | 1 comments This is really hard to remember, as I read so many books when I was young, and have memories of reading most of the books in the school library! It might have been 'Swallows and Amazons' or 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'

Alice, that is hard to imagine. It was my first long book too, read when I was about 14-15 and is still my favorite.

Stephen (photoscribe) | 55 comments For me, it had to be "2001: A Space Odyssey", my first over-200 pager, at age 17.

Renee (rjmiller) My first long read was "To Kill a Mockingbird". My sitter was reading it for an assignment, and I asked if I could read it. She told me it was boring but I loved it. I think I would have been around 10 years old. I was in grade 4 I think.

I always preferred it over "Hickleberry Finn," probably because it came first into my life. nina

Hi Mel and Nina. Good evening.

message 67: by Susan (new)

Susan The first long book I read as a preteen was "My Sweet Audrina" by V.C. Andrews. Became the start of an obsession with v.C. andrews books and the end of my Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High days.Though I still read quite a few of the Fear Street books. Funny as a preteen and teen I prefered adult books and now as an adult I have quite a few teen books I am interested in reading.

Sam (ecowitch) | 4 comments My first big reads (so to speak) were Wind in the Willows and The Animals of Farthing Wood both when I was about 7 or 8 as far as I can remember anyways. Read the Lord of the Rings not long after them and loved every word.

Nina | 58 comments I just saw, "Station Jim," and thoroughly enjoyed it. A nice movie that left me smiling and thinking good thoughts. Another reason I was thinking good thoughts is that our granddaughter called yesterday, saying, "Hello, this is Joy from Ghana." It has been years since we've talked as she has been in Africa and some bad spots and in Siberia before that. She was in LIberia when there was an uprising and the natives in charge wanted the US to interfere so they were killing children and laying their bodies in front of the US Embassey. My granddaugher and her sister called their father from the Embassey and told him they thought a helicopter was going to rescue them and then the line went dead..Their father, who lives in CA was desperate and tried to get info. Finally, he saw on the Internet a plane and two girls getting into it..He prayed it was them but it was weeks before he heard for certain..In the meantime they were delivered to Ghana with no luggage, money or passports..I won't go into that but here is the real story stopper: My son in law, married to the girl's father's sister(in other words, their Uncle by marriage) was stationed in Germany with the Army and he was in charge of Logistics..He, not having a clue who these girls were arranged to have a French helicoptor rescue them and not the US. We were all astounded. And grateful! nina

I wrote her report. At age eleven I didn't really think about whether it was the right thing to do. nina
