Toushaye | 1 comments Hello all! So glad I found a place to discuss this wonderful series!

Anyway, I'm near the end of A Breath of Snow and Ashes, and I came across what I believe is the single funniest line in the whole series (so far at least for me - I refuse to read An Echo in the the Bone until Book 8 comes out).

(view spoiler)

To be honest with you folks, I stopped reading and laughed at that (despite the intensity of the scene) for a good minute or two.

There are many other hilarious moments throughout the series. Anyone have any other favorite funny lines?

Yes that was a funny line. Now you have made me think. Jamie's tale about being a curious lad and Owls made me laugh. There were so many. I'll have to think. Thank you.

I love the Owl(and King Louis) part too. It was hilarious.

Hey Wan, do you like the Gail Carriger series? I really enjoyed it.

Wan (wanwaddell) | 564 comments I haven't read it yet. I have to check it out.

Sara (saragr) | 96 comments LOL I forgot about that line. There have been many funny lines but there is one that sticks out to me. I can't remember which book this was in or most of the details, but it is the part where everyone is at a funeral(I think) and this old lady scares Jem and he pulls his hat down over his eyes and then I think Claire says something like I felt like doing that too. I could just picture that scene in my mind so well. I had to stop a short while before I could keep reading.

I second the Gail Carriger series. It's really funny.

!!!Well, if you read Scottish Prisoner, do not read the excerpts of her new book in that back (!) MOBY because you will know some of what happened in Echo!

Teresita A | 531 comments The line that comes to mind for me right now was in Dragonfly in Amber when Claire was pregnant with Faith and she was asked or told by Jamie's cousin Jarred to have a dress made where she would stand out and look stunning and she had a red dress made that showed too much cleavage or breasts and Jamie said something like "Get a fan to cover yourself Sassenach I can see all the way down to your belly button!'...and later when she found a fan he said some like "Sassenach, Get a bigger fan."...later at the party he didn't want to separate from her and someone led him saying 'don't worry, she won't be alone for long. And he answered 'that is precisely what I am afraid of.'

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I love that moment too!

Carren Kay | 953 comments I can just picture this whole scene in my mind. Not just the dress, but what happens after he tosses said "gentlemen" in the fountain and their conversation afterward.

Love it when Jamie got a little protective & prossessive of Claire...

Teresita A | 531 comments Yes, and in Drums in Autumn when Jamie fought the bear and Claire tried to help by hitting it with a fish or something and I think she hit Jamie instead and Jamie said something about not helping. I can't recall exactly but I thought that scene was pretty funny.

message 15: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I also like the comment that young Ian made when he aquired Rollo. Jamie and Clair were concerned because they would now have to feed a dog and they could hardly feed themselves. Ian told Jamie that Rollo hunted and fed himself. Ian told Jamie that Rollo had been fishing and Jamie could smell his breath to see it smelled like fish. Sorry I do not own the books so I cannot look up the exact words but I remember thinking that was so funny - such a kid thing for Ian to say - I love his character!

When they are on their way to Jocasta's for the first time Jamie said "I'm scared to breath in case I drown". I can see him rolling his eyes

message 17: by Teresita (new)

Teresita A | 531 comments And when Jamie hurt his arm after a fight on a ship and after some pirates invaded their ship and after Claire took care of it she told him not to move that arm even to scratch his arse...and Jamie sarcastically said something like 'don't worry Sassenach, I always scratch my arse with my other hand"....I had to stop reading and burst out laughing...picturing Jamie scratching his arse...that was too funny.

message 18: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) Oh, gosh. Can we have only one line that we think is the funniest? I can't choose; there are so many! But loving the ones posted so far.

Have to admit, I really burst out laughing at the first one posted. I had forgotten that line as it's been some years since I've read through the books.

Teresa | 9 comments I was shocked into laughter when the English soldier said of a silky becoming a wife "Well, at least she'd always be wet". My husband asked what I was laughing at, and I rewound it to let him listen.

message 20: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) What did your husband think of that line, Teresa? :D

Michelle K (anotherlookbook) | 25 comments In Fiery Cross when Claire shows Jamie what sperms look like. I laugh and laugh at that conversation. First with him imagining how crowded it must be in "there" and then when he asks her to give them a proper burial. Even typing this now I am smiling.

I totally agree!

That "scene" was one of the most vivid in FC. I could just see Jamie standing there, with his mouth all agape. And Claire, just matter of factly, explaining all this to him. Always made me smile!

Yes, that was the exact scene I was going to mention. I thought it odd no one else had mentioned it but there it was down at the bottom. I loved reading what everyone else wrote. It brought back so many good memories.
