Valentine's 2012 Event for TFG: Visit to Virlanie Foundation on February 18, 2012

Tsaka hindi ito lunch or dinner ha. Somewhere in between. Pede ring mag-rent tayo ng tables and chairs then mag-order na lang tayo sa Pancit Malabon. Then somebody will buy KFC buckets. Then somebody will buy juice in tetrapack.
Kaso, wala pa yatang nag-pledge except Tina and I. har har.

I can pledge spaghetti in styro boxes w/ lumpiang shanghai...? parang may birthday lang. LOL
KD, sana may magpledge ng cake :)

for desserts, cake or cupcakes or mga sweet breads, etc :)

May time ka bang mag-open?
We can open it under our names: Ranee, Veronica at K.D.
Any member can disagree with me. As usual, okay lang.

Tapos may garlic bread or plain loaf bread. Tapos tama! May cakes! Kahit ako na sa cakes! Ayos na ba ang Goldilocks rolls? Ube at Mocca? Tapos siguro may ice cream. Tapos yong iba pa like yong cupcakes ni Tricia.
Kailangan na lang natin plastic spoons, forks, disposable cups (for ice cream). Tas chairs and tables!

For those who want to send their books to Manila, you can address it to:
NTI Shell Quezon Avenue
(c/o Ronnie Mastrile)
68 Quezon Avenue cor. Victory Avenue
Brgy. Tatalon, Quezon City 1113
Tel. No. 743-1739 (some couriers require it)
Pls. send Veronica (aka Ronnie) a PM with the courier's name and tracking number so that we can monitor it. We'll post all deliveries received on this thread.

it's easier to hand out these boxes rather than having the kids line up to get their food.
just saying. :)

Right now, here's the per head breakdown:
Menu 1 - 145.00 per person x 70 = 10,150.00
Menu 2 - 124.00 per person x 70 = 8,680.80
Menu 3 - 191.00 per person x 70 = 13,370.00
Menu 4 - 203.00 per person x 70 = 14.210.00
Menu 5 - 197.00 per person x 70 = 13,790.00
It's a little expensive, don't you think? Wala pang drinks yan, paper plates, paper cups, napkins and kubiertos. Assuming we get the minimun (Menu 2), I think, for 8,700.00 we can buy more food than this.

Tsaka baka nga di kaya ng lugar ang 70 pax or more.
Like me, I will bring Goldilocks cakes.

paano ang table and chairs?
kung alang table and chairs, siguro mas mainam na naka individual styro ang food? what do you think? suggestion lang.

Here are the proposed design for the book donation stickers that I did with a few explanatory comment below each image:

Helping hands is the particular theme I had in mind in conceptualizing the sticker's design, and I think the interconnected hands not only give it emphasis as it also, in a way, symbolizes the close friendship and sense of community we have as a book club.
For purposes of identification as the donor, I still incorporated our group's logo enclosed by the Helping Hands image to underscore, too, that the book club, no matter our differences, is what binds us.
As suggested by K.D. earlier on the thread, I added the text The Readers Who Care to indicate, in simple words that this group effort is done for charity.
For the age appropriateness of each book that will be given, I designed a simple rating system, inspired by the ESRB logo we usually see in the covers of most video games, and put it as an add-on to the image above. I decided to only make three rating categories for simplicity and, of course, functionality when I printed the stickers.

Everyone: This logo is self-explanatory. We can put the Bible, Children's books and picture books and nursery rhymes under this category.

Teens: Mostly young-adult novels.

Mature: I just made this as a reserved category if there's such a book that will make this grade, e.g. for violent novels.
Your comments, suggestion, criticisms, violent reactions on these sticker designs are highly appreciated.
Thank you,

Thanks in advance for your book donations! ;)

@Angus: taas kilay talaga?!

Emir, I second your suggestion, too.
I believe that books we're donating need not be screened or rated.
I leave that the task for categorizing is in the hands of the librarian in the orphanage.
Naging uber-ready lang ako. :)

And besides, yung list of books natin ay wala pa namang Henry Miller, Anais Nin, Elfriede Jelinek, etc.

Dyan nga papasok ang silbi ng stickers. Kapag may "M" alam nilang merong sex and violence.
For example sa "Lord of the Flies" may violence.
Sa "Kafka on the Shore" may hermaprodite.
Marami rito siguro "parentless" at wala sa normal environment na may tatay at nanay na magga-guide. So, kailangan nila ng guidance in the form of warning.

Regarding giving them a warning, I think it's better if you should just give a small talk about this during the event.

We are not censoring. We are only classifying the books.
Believe me, Angus. I have a daughter and I have some qualms when I see her reading sex-oriented books. I know that this is an unfounded fear sabi nga ni Veronica "baka di mo alam mas may alam pa yang mga yan kaysa sa atin." But still I don't want to assume. I just want to be in the safe side. We will be there once (or once a year) so we will not be there to explain what they read or their busy "nanay" will not have all the time to guide them. I want them to have a good impression about us and our group.

February 10 - Deadline for the submission of books.
Place and time: TBD.
February 12 - Book covering and deadliest deadline for those who cannot make it on February 10.
Place: Miss Ronnie's house.
Time: TBD.
We also strongly encourage you to bring your books on January 28 during our 1984 Book Talk. We are also looking for volunteers who wish to be a part of the LibComm headed by yours truly. What's our job? We gauge the level of "appropriateness" of the books donated. Is a book in or out? Stuff like that.
To the donors of Non-Specific Books (Tina, Rowell, Atty. Monique, Alona, Ellie, Tricia, Alona, Ruby), kindly post the specific titles of the books you are donating so that we can tally the total number of books. This would greatly help in determining the costs for sticker production and book covering.
Obrigado!

I did, of course. Most of them costs P250-350/head then the equipment for the buffet cost P100/head. Hope to find a cheaper one.
