I did, of course. Most of them costs P250-350/head then the equipment for the buffet cost P100/head. Hope to find a cheaper one.

message 152: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Onga, pero at least my idea ka.

Tsaka hindi ito lunch or dinner ha. Somewhere in between. Pede ring mag-rent tayo ng tables and chairs then mag-order na lang tayo sa Pancit Malabon. Then somebody will buy KFC buckets. Then somebody will buy juice in tetrapack.

Kaso, wala pa yatang nag-pledge except Tina and I. har har.

Maria (mariasm) | 2441 comments Masarap magluto ermat ko.

I can pledge spaghetti in styro boxes w/ lumpiang shanghai...? parang may birthday lang. LOL

KD, sana may magpledge ng cake :)

message 154: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (triciuhhh) | 1752 comments KD, same din inisip ko. If we still want buffet-type, hiram nalang tayo ng equipment :) we can buy nga Pancit or Maria's spaghetti, then may shanghai pa :)

for desserts, cake or cupcakes or mga sweet breads, etc :)

Ranee | 1902 comments Hi! Si Tina, KD, Emir, Ellie and She ay nagmessage na ng personal pledges for the event sa akin. For that thank you!

message 158: by K.D. (new)

May time ka bang mag-open?

We can open it under our names: Ranee, Veronica at K.D.

Any member can disagree with me. As usual, okay lang.

message 159: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Maria: Walang styro. Ayaw nila nun. Feeling ko, maraming gumagawa nun. Foundation ito kasi. Alam mo na, ang dinner or lunch, may isang kanin may isang ulam. Malamang walang second servings. May picture doon sa newsletter. Kahit ako man, noong growing boy ako, fantasy ko lagi ang buffet har har.

Tapos may garlic bread or plain loaf bread. Tapos tama! May cakes! Kahit ako na sa cakes! Ayos na ba ang Goldilocks rolls? Ube at Mocca? Tapos siguro may ice cream. Tapos yong iba pa like yong cupcakes ni Tricia.

Kailangan na lang natin plastic spoons, forks, disposable cups (for ice cream). Tas chairs and tables!

Yon na. Walang nang main plot at sub-plot har har.

message 160: by [deleted user] (new)

message 162: by Maria (new)

Maria (mariasm) | 2441 comments KD, the purpose of styro boxes is not to limit the food but for organized and speedy distribution. apart from the styro boxes, a bilao for spaghetti can be provided for those who want second or third helpings.

it's easier to hand out these boxes rather than having the kids line up to get their food.

just saying. :)

message 163: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Maria: I think gusto nilang mag-line up. Gawin natin two lines para di matagal ang pila.

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Oh I love Contis!

message 168: by Veronica (new)

Veronica | 734 comments Thanks Tricia and Emir. If we assume all the 50 teens will attend plus the 20 members (so far), that's 70 pax. Tricia, do you think they can lower the price for more than 50 pax?

Right now, here's the per head breakdown:
Menu 1 - 145.00 per person x 70 = 10,150.00
Menu 2 - 124.00 per person x 70 = 8,680.80
Menu 3 - 191.00 per person x 70 = 13,370.00
Menu 4 - 203.00 per person x 70 = 14.210.00
Menu 5 - 197.00 per person x 70 = 13,790.00

It's a little expensive, don't you think? Wala pang drinks yan, paper plates, paper cups, napkins and kubiertos. Assuming we get the minimun (Menu 2), I think, for 8,700.00 we can buy more food than this.

message 169: by K.D. (last edited Jan 19, 2012 11:23PM) (new)

K.D. Ang pakaintindi ko parang 20 lang ang nasa Elizabeth and then they will invite another 10 from another house. So, max na ang 50 kasi 20 from us. We can tell Virlanie that we are only accommodate 20 because that is our number. Remember, we said na gusto natin 1:1?

Tsaka baka nga di kaya ng lugar ang 70 pax or more.
Like me, I will bring Goldilocks cakes.

message 173: by Ranee (new)

paano ang table and chairs?

kung alang table and chairs, siguro mas mainam na naka individual styro ang food? what do you think? suggestion lang. One big group, one banig.

message 174: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (triciuhhh) | 1752 comments Hello!

message 175: by Ranee (new)

message 176: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Good day TFG peeps,

Here are the proposed design for the book donation stickers that I did with a few explanatory comment below each image:

Helping hands is the particular theme I had in mind in conceptualizing the sticker's design, and I think the interconnected hands not only give it emphasis as it also, in a way, symbolizes the close friendship and sense of community we have as a book club.

For purposes of identification as the donor, I still incorporated our group's logo enclosed by the Helping Hands image to underscore, too, that the book club, no matter our differences, is what binds us.

As suggested by K.D. earlier on the thread, I added the text The Readers Who Care to indicate, in simple words that this group effort is done for charity.

For the age appropriateness of each book that will be given, I designed a simple rating system, inspired by the ESRB logo we usually see in the covers of most video games, and put it as an add-on to the image above. I decided to only make three rating categories for simplicity and, of course, functionality when I printed the stickers.

Everyone: This logo is self-explanatory. We can put the Bible, Children's books and picture books and nursery rhymes under this category.

Teens: Mostly young-adult novels.

Mature: I just made this as a reserved category if there's such a book that will make this grade, e.g. for violent novels.

Your comments, suggestion, criticisms, violent reactions on these sticker designs are highly appreciated.

Thank you,
jzhun
Events Com member

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments I love the design, Jzhun. However, an itsy-bitsy comment: hindi na ba talaga natin papalitan ang group logo? Hahaha.

message 183: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Thanks, guys!

Emir, I second your suggestion, too.
I believe that books we're donating need not be screened or rated.

I leave that the task for categorizing is in the hands of the librarian in the orphanage.

Naging uber-ready lang ako. :)

message 184: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Kasi, remember first time natin ito at book club tayo. Supposed to be nabasa na natin ang mga librong ido-donate natin at may intention tayo to influence them. Good influence, siyempre.

message 185: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Ako I go with Emir. Sex and violence happen everyday, so why censor something that is mundane?

And besides, yung list of books natin ay wala pa namang Henry Miller, Anais Nin, Elfriede Jelinek, etc.

message 188: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Ito pang 12-18 years old lang.

Dyan nga papasok ang silbi ng stickers. Kapag may "M" alam nilang merong sex and violence.

For example sa "Lord of the Flies" may violence.
Sa "Kafka on the Shore" may hermaprodite.

Marami rito siguro "parentless" at wala sa normal environment na may tatay at nanay na magga-guide. So, kailangan nila ng guidance in the form of warning.

message 189: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Still, we are not censors. I don't think anyone has the right to censor books. Besides, they have their own minds. They can form their opinions. They can read, right?

Regarding giving them a warning, I think it's better if you should just give a small talk about this during the event.

message 190: by K.D. (last edited Jan 24, 2012 12:40AM) (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments I disagree. The audience during the talk will leave after few years. But the books will stay and will be read by others who are currently living on the streets.

We are not censoring. We are only classifying the books.

Believe me, Angus. I have a daughter and I have some qualms when I see her reading sex-oriented books. I know that this is an unfounded fear sabi nga ni Veronica "baka di mo alam mas may alam pa yang mga yan kaysa sa atin." But still I don't want to assume. I just want to be in the safe side. We will be there once (or once a year) so we will not be there to explain what they read or their busy "nanay" will not have all the time to guide them. I want them to have a good impression about us and our group.

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Dates to remember:
February 10 - Deadline for the submission of books.
Place and time: TBD.
February 12 - Book covering and deadliest deadline for those who cannot make it on February 10.
Place: Miss Ronnie's house.
Time: TBD.

We also strongly encourage you to bring your books on January 28 during our 1984 Book Talk. We are also looking for volunteers who wish to be a part of the LibComm headed by yours truly. What's our job? We gauge the level of "appropriateness" of the books donated. Is a book in or out? Stuff like that.

To the donors of Non-Specific Books (Tina, Rowell, Atty. Monique, Alona, Ellie, Tricia, Alona, Ruby), kindly post the specific titles of the books you are donating so that we can tally the total number of books. This would greatly help in determining the costs for sticker production and book covering.

Obrigado!
