K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Virlanie Participants List
As of today, January 17th

1. K.D.
2. Veronica
3. Angus
4. Po
5. Jzhunagev
6. Ranee
7. Rowell Mendoza*
8. Tina
9. George Kariotis*
10. Sheila
11. Ruby
12. Ayban
13. Sheryl

So, what do you suggest? Pledge-pledge na lang kay Ranee ng amount? Then yong amount eh tingnan natin kung ano ang mabibiling food? Tapos kung may sobra then we will buy something for the kids?

Or may iba kayong suggestion? Like fixed contribution for each?

1) Cary
2) Rollie
3) Kwesi
4) Ace
5) Joyzi
6) Charles
7) Emir

Pede rin kayong magpadala in kind or in cash har har

Those who asked for my address and/or said that they will ship books:

1) Laura Stucker (US)
2) Nancy Cudis (Cebu)
3) Caz Edmunds
4) Patrick
5) Ace

So, kung around 20 tayo, shall we tell Virlanie to just send 20-30 kids? Then we can group into 4:

GROUP 1
Veronica
Jzhunagev
Ruby

GROUP 2
Ranee
Angus
Sheryl

GROUP 3
K.D.
Shiela
Ayban
Dhamschen

GROUP 4
Tina
Po
Rowell
Ellie

Kung kakasya ang pera natin say P8,000 parang meron na makakapag-cater for 50 people tapos kasama na ang chairs and tables. Party atmosphere na. We can dub it as Valentine's at Virlanie or something. Mas convenient pa. Nag-party kasi ang nanay ko noong last year. Parang ganito ang gastos. May 2 waiters na yon for 4 hours.

What do you think?

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Kuya, please delete/put a strike through sa A Separate Peace from the list, I think I got copies of those. It's a favorite book of mine when I read it in college.

I will also be giving a very good children's Bible that I bought yesterday sa isang Christian bookstore. Ang ganda at may aside information pa from history. I hope the children from the orphanage will like it. :)

Monique (attymonique) | 2130 comments Kuya, I also have Little Women pala, kindly indicate on the list that I already have a copy to give out. And A Christmas Carol, although it's not included in the list. :)

AennA (aennabanana) | 536 comments Pwede bang humabol, if ever? :D

message 110: by Ranee (new)

Ranee | 1902 comments Hmmm... ok, now for some organization:

1. Libcom (library committee)- in-charge of tracking the books to be given. This includes safekeeping the books prior to the event and updating the datalist here in this thread

2. Eventscom- in-charge of the program on the day of the visit. includes documentation, registration materials (nameplates/cards/stickers) (pictures maybe) of the event and the food (of course it is still best that the group decides if we cater).

3. Fincom- in-charge of handling the money. Bank transfers, on the day donations. basta lahat ng kelangan sa kaperahan at tungkol sa kaperahan. basta in the end, may financial report para open.

Committees yan so kahit ilan ang members. Volunteers na lang ang kelangan. Sa Eventscom ako.

Other stuff:
A. Transpo: We need people to volunteer their vehicles for: 1)books and 2)carpooling.
- We need to set up meeting places for members. Best landmark would be the nearest MRT station (probably a foodchain near that station where we can make "tambay").

B. Publicity- i guess this is the best time to actually put up that website we are planning. It will help us get more pledges from nonmembers who are willing to donate money and attract big companies. Siguro make sponsorship packages in exchange for an ad maybe?

message 111: by Ranee (new)

message 112: by Ranee (new)

message 113: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Ranee: Thanks for putting all those messages. You know how much I love you har har.

Ellie: If it is okay to everyone, pledge-pledge na lang. Send your pledge through PM kay Dra. Rannie for the food and if you want to also contribute to our cash or in-kind donation. I think Tina has done that. I will do it this morning. Ibang usapan yong monthly coffee (discussion) event. Doon talaga, equal distribution.

Is this okay with everyone? Ako, I can drop by St. Luke's as it can be my way home :)

Ranee (ulit): I nominate:

Members: Po, Ayban, K.D.

Eventscom: Jzhun (nametags, book stickers, may discussion kami ni Josephine sa PM this morning. She will be joining with us and she will bring copies of her books. She doubts though if one of them is really appropriate. Her mother says parang scary. So, why not have a sticker with some warning?) Members: Aaron (busy?)

Publicity: Tina. Members: Shiela, etc.

Finance: Ranee. Members: Ariel (busy?),

Okay ba sa lahat? Just volunteer in the committee(s) where you want to part of.

Re: Sponsorship. Let's discuss this first with Kristen. I think it is easy. I have to show you their newsletter. Not sure) kasi my daughter will start college this year. Kaya why not have other willing members and we can name our donation from TFG so we can "claim" the child as the adopted or sponsored child of the group. Tapos pag nag-default ang member(s) ng pagbibigay sa akin ng share nya, I will just have to work hard. Render more overtime? Joke har har. God will provide especially for those who believe in Him. Ganoon lagi ang feeling ko. Nagpaka-positive ba. :)

message 114: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Chicbee: Yes, you can still join :)

Ranee: Encyclopedia! Yes! Yan ang request ni Angelo. Mahilig daw syang magbasa ng encyclopedia. Dyan nga pumasok ang computer. Kasi biglang nag-flash sa mind ko while talking to him na di na uso ang encyclopedia pero di ko sinabi sa kanya. Kung may luma kayong encyclopedia, I think it is okay. However, we need to donate a bookshelf. Sayang di namin nakunan ng picture. Isang bookshelf nila na half-filled: some nursery books na sinasabi ni Veronica na inappropriate (I agree) at mga lumang textbooks. Ilang small copies ng C.S. Lewis' Narnia. Wala na.

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Ok, Kuya.

I'll try to make a design for the book sticker this weekend.

message 120: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Can we talk about the Book Giving event and let it finish first before we discuss further donations and plans of sponsoring/contributing/etc.? Nakakagulo kasi eh. I think we need to focus on one thing first. Yung Christmas Party nga natin medyo magulo. Oops, hehehe. Okay lang na magulo kasi tayo-tayo lang naman ang participants dun, but we can't afford to mess up at Virlanie. There are other people and organizations involved. The group's reputation is at stake. So yes, focus on one thing at a time.

And after that, we can discuss what to do next. :D

Sheila (archiveangel) | 107 comments KD: Never say never. Who knows how far we can go with this project?: ) Besides, the new company of probably the most learned people in the PH (because we read AND live it) makes the trip deserving of its description of 'liblib.' In committing to something bigger than ourselves, we are walking, venturing off the beaten path: )

message 125: by AennA (new)

AennA (aennabanana) | 536 comments K.D To be honest, I don't know yet if I can confirm,as in commit, to join on that date, dahil may work ako on Saturdays. But I really want to join, that's why I thought of humabol na lang and since I'm just 10 -15 mins.away from Virlanie. Pag-out ko sa work diretso na ako dun. I can confirm my interest, but ang worry ko lang is kapag may immediate project that might get in the way sa pagpunta ko.
I'll keep myself updated na lang sa developments ng event, and keep the asterisk after my name as reference to : "She's complicated." :)

message 128: by [deleted user] (new)

Pardon me, medyo naguluhan ako. lol. Saturday or Sunday? :D

message 129: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Ellie: Saturday pa rin dear. Thanks for asking.

Angus: Hmmm. Sanay kasi ako ng multi-tasking har har. Di naman ako naguguluhan.

Regarding Christmas Party, alam kong magiging magulo yon. Kasi formal-formalan tayo roon. (like you). Seriously, may guests tayo sa El Pueblo kaya may function room tayo. We can't always do that. Tutal Christmas, relax at huwag mag-impose at huwag maging repressive.

In my mind, simple lang ang Virlanie:

1) Visit: Contribute for food. Bring books. Spend time. Be positive. Be generous.
2) Organize: See where you can help. Do your best to make it a success.
3) Future: Think what else you can do to help. Computer? More books? Allow them to deduct from your bank account on a monthly basis? Another visit to sustain? etc.

Hindi yan nangyayari before har har.

Hmmm. Siguro, meeting tayo this week or next before the Jan 28 event (Orwell's 1984)?

Tuklas Pahina (TP) | 1191 comments Libcom! Game! go!

message 131: by Angus (new)

Of course, we need to hold a meeting regarding this, after 1984.

Tuklas Pahina (TP) | 1191 comments @ I super agree with you Angus we need a meeting for the Virlanie activity

Todo support lang ako kay Charles kasi Virlanie is open naman if we make it on a Sunday eh. Kaso, parang majority are still okay with Saturday.

Siguro nga kasi matanda na ako at mas marami akong life roles.

message 142: by Ranee (new)

Afterwhich, kunin natin ang output ng group kung how much of a commitment and dedication we can give para ma-execute ang long term goals natin.

May long term and short term, and each with a scenario one that could lead to this tapos may scenario 2 etc.

message 143: by Ranee (new)

Ranee | 1902 comments meron bang major in banking and finance na ka-group natin? need help with better options for getting the money. Money transfers

Option 2- I can meet you somewhere. Tell me when and where it is most convenient.

Ala akong official receipt.

Magtatatanong-tanong din ako regarding sa pera padala through lbc/etc or bank transfers. Ewan ko kung kelangan ko mag-open ng account for TFG, most likely ito solution for the long term goals, dahil di naman maganda na sa personal savings account ko ito nakalagay.

message 144: by Apokripos (new)

Apokripos (apokalypse) | 3321 comments Wala bang mabuting puso d'yan na gustong magvolunteer for EventsCom to do a research for a probable caterer?

Sorry busy lang, even I am not done yet with the TFG sticker designs, eh.

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks! :)

Tricia (triciuhhh) | 1752 comments How much ba is the budget for the food? Para pag naghanap tayo ng caterers, we'll find one that's within the budget.

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Tricia: We are now around 20 so we can accommodate 20-30 teenagers.

Yong may kasamang plastic tables and chairs? Buffet snacks ang gusto nila eh (specified nila). Una inisip ko styrofoam individual packs (tipid, convenient) pero sana sabi nila (hindi na sila nahiya and I felt good about it), sana sila ang kukuha.

Mayroon kaming ginamit na caterer para sa bday ng nanay ko noong last year pero sa QC yon eh. Parang baka mapamahal tayo.

Tricia (triciuhhh) | 1752 comments Okay! I'll try to look around. Wala din kasi akong idea about caterers in Makati area.
