1. Denmark: Jussi Adler-Olsen: Erbarmen (Mercy)Hard to say, even though I loooove Sweden and Swedish literature, I have to admit that Adler-Olsen did a great job and really fits into the Scandinavian suspense
5. G: Charles Dickens: Great Expectationsclassic! Though, some more sticking to the central theme wouldn't have been too bad. I liked the original ending as first proposed by Dickens, not the Hollywood-ish revision.
6. F: Audrey Niffenegger: Die Frau des Zeitreisenden (The Time Traveler's Wife)sweet but not cheesy, that's how even I can stand the category romance
7. England: Piers Paul Read: Alive. The Story of the Andes Survivorsunagitated, to the point in every aspect, and simply, sadly, truly the story of the survivors
8. T: Kim Edwards: Die Tochter des Fotografen (The Memory Keeper's Daughter)It was irritating, depressing and touching. It shows quite plainly how the dream of a perfect family might fail because of one lie.
10. V: John William Polidori: The VampyreFor me it was a must-read... until I read it. It's boring and absolutely not what I expected of this story
11. France: Anna Gavalda: Zusammen ist man weniger allein (Hunting and Gathering)I really liked it because of the strange characters. I didn't like the end though... It's too cheesy, too foreseeable.
12. USA: Henry Miller: Das Lächeln am Fuße der Leiter (The Smile at the Foot of the Ladder)It's funny and sad at the same time. I read the edition illustrated by Joan Miró and the pictures just fitted perfectly into the story.
15. Spain: Félix J. Palma: Die Landkarte der Zeit (El mapa del tiempo)Didn't like it. Too many references, but with a bad plot. Too many obviously stolen topics...
16. E: Carolyn Jessop: EscapeHard to read what that woman had been through. Sometimes a bit too niggling about things she could have changed but didn't in time. But overall shocking.
41. Czech Republic: Milan Kundera: Die unerträgliche Leichtigkeit des Seins (The unbearable lightness of being)
