GenieD | 27 comments Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children is my attempt at a different genre. Not working out so well...lol

Z (z_hndz) | 13 comments I plan on reading either a romance or a tear-jerker, though I guess a romance is potentially a cry fest? Someone suggested Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia but I'm open to suggestions!

Good luck with Twilight! I agree with Connie in that it isn't a masterpiece by any means by I genuinely liked it a lot. Admittedly as the sage went on the weirder it got, which meant I liked it more lol. Let us know how it goes. And if you can't get into it I have some good vampire fiction to suggest for you that is less sappy romance. I don't read all supernatural books because anymore that is every other free book I see, but I have some super favorites.

Melinda (melinda413) | 34 comments I'm almost done with my challenge book The Name of the Wind and WOW. LOVE, love, love it! So much that i already have book 2 checked out from the library. DH is trying to convince me to read some of his fantasy books since I like this one so much.

I'm hearing a lot of people saying they love this book, I must put it up my TBR list

Maralee (divedeep118) I just decided what genre I'm going to read for this. A biography. I never read anything that's nonfiction, so this will be interesting. I decided on Harriet Tubman, the Moses of her People - by Sarah H Bradford. Mostly because it was free :)

Rich (ratorr) | 14 comments I'm starting one that someone mentioned was free one day called "The Secret Holocaust Diaries: The Untold Story of Nonna Bannister". It's very different from the YA/sci-fi/fantasy type books I normally read but this one sounded interesting. It made me think of "The Diary of Anne Frank" so I grabbed it.

Zai, Poughkeepsie is a good book. I just finished it...but honestly...it's more like pulp fiction type of book....it's not sappy at all....

I am the greatest! I am getting more comfortable recommending "The name of the wind" these days, as I see more and more people post that they like it....I didn't recommending it to anyone for so long...it would really hurt me if someone read it and didn't love it...it just is so wonderful to me. I know not everyone likes the same type of books...but really...it's like someone telling me I have an ugly baby or something...I just would not understand how someone could not like it...

Z (z_hndz) | 13 comments Then I need recommendations for a GOOD romance book :)

I understand Connie. Sometimes when I see someone say they hate a book I love I think WHAT?? how the hell is that possible!? I am super glad you did though, because seriously these 2 books are amazing.

message 63: by Jeri (new)

Jeri Stallard | 1 comments As some of you know I finished my steampunk book Soulless on January 2nd. I guess this wasn't really a challenge for me since I do read so many genres. By the way I loved the book and put the others on my wishlist. I'm now in the process of looking at other steampunk books. I want to stay away from the romance ones though and more of the mystery, technology, adventure ones. That will probably be a challenge in itself.

I've decided that my book for Connie's challenge will be The Name of the Wind. I hate to even admit this to Connie, but I got this one from the library a couple of months ago and read only about 10% and returned it. But I'm going to give it another try. So many people have said how much they loved it, I figure I should get more into it than 10% before I give up.

Ardette (readingnightandday) | 22 comments I am re- reading /trying to re- read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It's for the Mount Desert Island "Island Read" for 2012. That is defiantly outside my comfort zone. I read it 40 (gulp) years ago.

message 66: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (ChelleWillIiams) | 2 comments I always use the app on my iPad, didn't realise how much I was missing out on. I read The Passage by Justin Cronin earlier this month, which was definitely out of my normal reading zone. I quite enjoyed it and will probably read the sequel. Reminded me a bit of The Stand, although it has been years (maybe 15) since I have read any Stephen King.

message 67: by Noeleen (new)

Noeleen I'm going to change my choice for this challenge from Ashes in the Wind to The Pact,(romance)!

message 68: by Tamme (new)

Tamme Webster Johnson | 56 comments I'm joining a bit late but I'm up for the challenge. I'm going to try to finish 11/22/63 and then I will also read a classic but I haven't decided which one yet.

After my total wipeout reading "HeartsBlood", I didn't plan to read much of anything outside of my comfort zone for a few months but The End of Marking Timecame up next...and I'm fascinated by it! I've never read much dystopian (had to look up the meaning!) outside of 1984 which I read when I was a kid and I'm not sure that I'll read many more of them but this one is blowing me away!

message 70: by Cari (new)

Cari | 4 comments I just started The Name of the Wind. THis is not typically my genre but i am definatly enjoying it.

message 71: by Tamme (new)

Tamme Webster Johnson | 56 comments At Teri's suggestion I am reading The Secret Gardenalso which I would normally NEVER read. Usually I find the classics long and boring. Hence my slow reading of 11/22/63

message 72: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (melinda413) | 34 comments oh i love the secret garden! i hope you do too.

message 73: by Z (new)

Z (z_hndz) | 13 comments Sooooo, are the 'in death' books considered romance? Cuz in that case, I should change to a more challenging genre, maybe non-fiction or horror

message 74: by Connie Rea (new)

Connie Rea (connie_rea) | 28 comments Zai, there is definitely romance in them, the two main characters are in a relationship...but it's more of a detective series to me...there is always a crime involved somewhere and the story line of each book centers around it...

message 76: by Tamme (new)

Tamme Webster Johnson | 56 comments Ok, I finished The Secret Garden tonight and I really liked it! I'm glad I read it! The only issue I had was the dialect! It was sometimes hard for me to understand! However, the story was amazing! I am 43% done with 11/22/63 so I am going to finish it also!

Teri what was the name of the other classic you suggested I read? I can't remember!

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

You might also like Anne of Green Gables (thought I'd hate it, but I LOVED it!) and/or Freckles (WONDERFUL book!)

message 78: by Tamme (new)

Tamme Webster Johnson | 56 comments Thanks, I'll check them both out!

message 79: by Marty (new)

Marty | 2 comments I finished Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon and I liked it. I don't usually read apocalyptic type books. I had never heard of this author before the RKB page. Thanks Connie for the challenge. Now I'm considering The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss .

message 80: by Noeleen (last edited Feb 29, 2012 11:11AM) (new)

Noeleen I finished Connie's challenge today, a romance, I decided to read The Notebook, It was also my first Nicholas Sparks book to read too, I enjoyed it Connie, thanks! I will have to look at the movie soon as I've never seen it

message 81: by Heather (new)

Heather | 72 comments I read my Connie's challenge book - it was American Gods, one of our books for last month, so it was good motivation knowing that others were reading it too. Initally the book dragged quite a lot for me, but by the end of it, I really liked it. I gave it 4 stars overall. It was definitely not the usual type of book I read, although I'm increasingly finding that I don't really have a type any more. Pre-kindle, all I really read were thrillers & police procedurals, but now I'll pretty much read anything.

The Name of The Wind is one of my all time favorites so of course, I say READ IT!!! NOW!!!!!

message 84: by Barnaby (new)

Barnaby Rudge | 5 comments 'The Reluctant Prophet' is out of my normal reading because it from chick lit genre and not my usual action testosterone thriller genre. I'm really enjoying it! Very insightful and humorous.
