Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I just finished Evernight (Evernight, #1) by Claudia Gray and I am now reading Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill .

Lis | 4037 comments Finished up the Nightwalker series with Noah (Nightwalkers, #5) by Jacquelyn Frank and Adam (Nightwalkers, #6) by Jacquelyn Frank what a great wrap up of a good series.
Also read Poltergeist (Greywalker, #2) by Kat Richardson which wasn't that great for me. Wrapping up About a Dragon (Dragon Kin, #2) by G.A. Aiken and starting Amaryllis (St. Helen's, #1) by Jayne Castle for challenges.

Audrey - I hope you like Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill . The Chicagoland Vampires is one of my favorite series. Happy reading!

Christine | 850 comments Rapture in Death (In Death, #4) by J.D. Robb was great. I liked seeing more development of the relationship between the different characters.

Over the weekend I read The Bride Wore Black Leather (Nightside, #12) by Simon R. Green and was sadly disappointed in the final installment of the Nightside series. I just wasn't as fun and exciting and gruesome as the otheres.

But I am almost done with Turn Coat (The Dresden Files, #11) by Jim Butcher and, as usual with Jim Butcher, I am loving it!

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments So I'm starting Horizon (Aftertime, #3) by Sophie Littlefield which I'm super excited about because this trilogy has been so amazing so far.

I'm also starting Magic In the Blood (Allie Beckstrom, #2) by Devon Monk and the beginning is once again a little slow to get started. Are all of the books in the series like this?

I have read up to book 7. I think they are all similar in pacing. I don't really like the main character or her romantic interest, but the ending of the first book blew me away and I had to read the next one. That just kept happening until I ended up almost finished with the series. There are some good secondary characters that I really like (I don't think you've met Shame yet), so that keeps me going. Plus, Devon Monk is really good at changing things up. I can remember clearly which book is which just because she never repeated herself and there are clear story arcs. I used to live in Portland, OR so that makes it even more interesting to me. I do think that most of the action usually happens towards the end of the books. I think... Hopefully, that helps.

Thanks Jean that helps a lot. I'm not usually a patient person, but if they are all like book 1 in the pacing, then I can work through it. I like the story enough and am interested in reading more about Allie and her world. I also love the setting. I'm from Seattle and have been to Portland many times. I always love when I know the place where the book takes place.

I originally picked up
Magic to the Bone (Allie Beckstrom, #1) by Devon Monk because it was set in Portland. Devon Monk does a good job of managing the story arcs. There's a large story arc for the whole series (9 books), and then mini story arcs over 3 books each (i.e., books 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9). She's done some pretty bold things with her characters. Just wait until you get to the end of Magic In the Blood (Allie Beckstrom, #2) by Devon Monk . There's a pretty big "WHAT?!!" moment.

Have you read Shaedes of Gray (Shaede Assassin, #1) by Amanda Bonilla ? It's set in Seattle. I liked it. It took me a bit to connect with the main character, but it had grabbed me by the end.

message 209: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments I haven't read Shaedes of Gray (Shaede Assassin, #1) by Amanda Bonilla yet, but it's on my TBR list. Love that its set in Seattle. I think I'll have to move it up. Thanks. I tried the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson cause it's set in Seattle and really could not get into it which bummed me out.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments Took me until the 3rd book to like Greywalker series.

Jean ~ Kindle Queen (jkat9) | 370 comments The Greywalker series is on my TBR list too. I'm not sure I could stick with it until the 3rd book, Valerie. I'll still try it one of these days...

Gin | 99 comments I couldn't get through the first book in the Greywalker series either. The medical aspect of it was hard for me to swallow.

message 213: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments A friend of mine really recommended the Greywalker series and I was hard up for books at the time (long before I found Goodreads) so I've read I believe the first 4 and I won't go any further.

message 214: by Christine (new)

Christine | 850 comments Starting Pale Demon (The Hollows, #9) by Kim Harrison so I can read A Perfect Blood (The Hollows, #10) by Kim Harrison which I just picked up yesterday!

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments gin wrote: "I couldn't get through the first book in the Greywalker series either. The medical aspect of it was hard for me to swallow."

It took a long time for the main character to find out her power and how to use it. it is at this point that I really started to like the series. In the last 2 books she really look into her past which is quite entertaining. The mysteries are darker too and more personal to her so I am hooked...but it took 3 books to get there. It was reading challenges that got me to read them...some letters for yearly challenges can be hard to find.

Thanks Valerie! I compared our books and and we seem to rate quite similar. I might have to give this series a try again then.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Recently read Noble Destiny (Noble, #2) by Katie MacAlister Starters (Starters, #1) by Lissa Price and today I read Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken which I'd recommend for Maria V. Snyder and Graceling fans. All different genres: historical romance, post-apocalyptic and fantasy, respectively.

message 226: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Finished The Hour of Dust and Ashes (Charlie Madigan, #3) by Kelly Gay and True Colors (Elder Races #3.5) by Thea Harrison as a quick filler read. Working on Kiss of Fire (Dragonfire, #1) by Deborah Cooke .

Finished a re-listen of Pale Demon (The Hollows, #9) by Kim Harrison and A Perfect Blood (The Hollows, #10) by Kim Harrison on audio and loved it. Jenks is my little hero and he can move his pixie family to my garden anytime.

I'm so excited. I almost don't want to read it cause then it will be over and I'll have to wait again.

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments All this talk about the Hollows series almost makes me want to try them again. I got all the way through to White Witch, Black Curse (The Hollows, #7) by Kim Harrison and I couldn't finish it. Because of that I haven't read any of the ones that came after it.

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Just finished Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward . It was amazing!

And now I have no clue what to read next.... *sighs* It's gonna be a book for the 'demons' shelf, but I can't choose after that awesomeness.

Here are my choices.... Any opinions?

Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward Adam (Nightwalkers, #6) by Jacquelyn Frank Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls, #1) by C.C. Hunter Original Sin (The Seven Deadly Sins, #1) by Allison Brennan Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning

Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning sooo many things happen in that one! 6star read for sure.

message 240: by Alyssa (new)

But...but...but...Kate....Curran! I know folks love Barrons, but for me he's no Curran! I guess it makes sense if you're saving them for a special occasion....
: P
Enjoy!

Sandra | 25908 comments That could've been the only acceptable excuse Alyssa, so all right.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments Started Prey (Infected, #1) by Andrea Speed . It had been sitting on my TBR pile for a while now but I whished I had started it sooner. I like the virus angle and the fact that the shifters are just animals needing to be caged with no 'higher' brain function.

message 244: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments I finished The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa and Winter's Passage (Iron Fey, #1.5) by Julie Kagawa today and I'm now reading The Iron Daughter (Iron Fey, #2) by Julie Kagawa
Not what I thought it would be but I'm liking it.

message 245: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I definitely prefer Curran over Barrons. Yeah, Barrons is fascinating and raw sex, but he is a sociopath! LOL. I did love the Fever series though, straight 5 stars for me in all the books. Kate Daniels is less an emotional read for me, but I like the series so much better than Fever.

I just finished Fair Game (Alpha & Omega #3) by Patricia Briggs and it was FREAKING amazing. I think it is the best Alpha & Omega book yet. Now I can go back and finish Sacrificial Magic (Downside Ghosts, #4) by Stacia Kane which I have been dying to return to.

message 246: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Regina, I'm definitely a Curran girlie :D

And so jealous you got to read Fair Game. Just waiting impatiently for my copy. LOL

message 247: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Sandra, it is so good. It is a meaty book too, which is nice. Briggs pushed the story arc forward -- and the world. Less than 2 days until it is out!

message 248: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments Well, thanks to the heads-up from Regina, I'm listening to Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs and then reading River Marked (Mercy Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs over the next two days, so I won't have a spoiler for Fair Game (Alpha & Omega #3) by Patricia Briggs - which I splurged on and ordered in hardback b/c I the A&O series!

message 249: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Lisa Kay, even though I received an ARC I am still buying Fair Game - the audio. THAT is how good it is! Darn! I want to read it again, now. :) I love your images, you always have the best ones. :)

It kind sucks though, that you have to use up all the Briggs goodness for 2-3 days. It is for a good cause though!

message 250: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Just had a look at my order for Fair Game (Alpha & Omega #3) by Patricia Briggs and I ordered it on 17 Aug 2010. And then of course it has to get to Australia ... *sigh* ...
