Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments Dana wrote: "I've read Wilde as well and found that he is one of the 'classic' authors that I actually like quite a bit. I still can't get into Dickens (urgh!) and Melville is never going to happen. EV-ER. Wilde has got some fun quotes...I think he would have been an entertaining guy to know back in the day."

A couple favorites so far:
"I choose my friends for their good looks, my acquaintances for their good characters, and my enemies for their good intellects."

"Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter."

I think he is brilliant. His writing is so different from the YA books I usually read. It takes some getting used to so I am reading it along with others through out the month.

Sandra | 25907 comments I too like Oscar Wilde, read some when I was at school & liked it so much I absconded with the book. LOL

And Dana, so agree about Dickens. I personally can't stand him, though don't mind all the shows made of A Christmas Carol. Melville I've never tried, but I'll take your word for it.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I absconded with quite a few school books which I still have on my shelves. I like Oscar Wilde, there are loads of quotes by him I love. I liked reading A Christmas Carol, The Signalman was boring and I'm not interested in his other stuff.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Enjoyed reading Dragon Warrior (Dragon Wars) by Shéa MacLeod but I forgot it's too early to go in the Dragon challenge -oops. But it's a perfect read for 2012. Post-apocalyptic goodness.

Faerytale by Rachael Fuller Doesn't look like much but it's an awesome free Kindle book written in verse.

Full Moon City by Martin H. Greenberg Read the Kitty story and the one from Holly Black.

Sandra | 25907 comments Yep, I've still got my Oscar Wilde, it was the plays I think, still remember The Importance of Being Ernest. LOL

message 56: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25907 comments LOL @ Ames, I don't know how many books I've picked up to read & realised it was a dragon book so had to put it back, must be 5 or 6 I reckon, bring on 23 Jan.

Thx Ames, I accidentally read Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin, #1) by G.A. Aiken early too. Just downloaded Dragon Warrior (Dragon Wars) by Shéa MacLeod as a replacement.

I remember that one, too. Read it and watched two movie versions of it.

D.G. | 2752 comments I read A Christmas Carol last year and loved it. Way better than all the movies I've seen.

I've read The Importance of Being Earnest in Spanish and really liked it. Maybe I should read it in English one of these days. :)

D.G. | 2752 comments Finally I finished Nothing Ever Happens by Sue Brown and I would have been happy if the characters had fallen off a cliff. I hated them all (except the kids.)

Now I just started Succubus on Top (Georgina Kincaid Series #2) by Richelle Mead and I'm listening to The Murder on the Links (Hercule Poirot, #2) by Agatha Christie .

LOL, Sandra. You're the second person who's asked me that question.

Actualy, a LOT happens in the book, it's just that the characters are not people you feel like rooting for.

message 66: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I switched gears and stopped Succubus on Top and started instead Lead Me On (Tumble Creek, #3) by Victoria Dahl . So far so good. :)

I'm also finally finishing Scandalous Desires and I'm completely underwhelmed. I'm thinking that unless something happens, this will be my last Hoyt.

message 67: by Christine (new)

Christine | 850 comments Has anyone read Adam (Nightwalkers, #6) by Jacquelyn Frank ? If so can you tell me who the mysterious woman with black and grey hair who kept popping up to help them was? I felt like I should know, but I couldn't figure it out.

message 68: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Went on a bit of a romance binge and read Sleeping with the Alpha (A Steamy Paranormal Romance Novella) by Celeste Rain A Wish to Build a Dream On by Michelle Willingham Storming the Castle (Fairy Tales, #1.5) by Eloisa James Bound in Sin by Cynthia Eden The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley

I enjoyed that last one the most. I recommend it. :D

I'll probably read Tiger of Talmare (Frontiers of Love, #1) by Nina Croft next.

D.G. | 2752 comments Regina wrote: "DG were you reading or listening to Succubus on Top, what made you stop? "

I was reading it. It wasn't any problem with the book, it was just that I started listening to Hunting Ground and I don't like to listen and read to similar genres at the same time. The funny thing was that I listened to an hour of Hunting Ground and decided to stop (the narration wasn't bad but I was having problems concentrating.)

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments I'm reading two different books for not always the good reasons.

Much Ado About Vampires (Dark Ones, #9) by Katie MacAlister because I needed a purple cover. I managed to not be annoyed by the comic relief so far.

Raven Cursed (Jane Yellowrock, #4) by Faith Hunter because I really want to read it.

I really enjoyed First Grave on the Right. I just finished Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2) by Darynda Jones and I think it's better than the first.

The first one was the best and the last the worst. Palate cleansed. I need something a bit meatier now.

I might try My Soul to Steal (Soul Screamers, #4) by Rachel Vincent next since it's overdue back at the library. Oops.

message 78: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25907 comments LOL I'd picked up most of all those too Ames, but haven't gotten to them yet.

message 79: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments I finished Deep Kiss of Winter (Includes Immortals After Dark, #8; Alien Huntress, #4.5) by Kresley Cole , which was really good, though not my favourite of the series and Seven Tears Into the Sea by Terri Farley which was ok, but a bit monotonous at times.

Just started A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin

Tim (Mole) The Gunslinger (Mole) | 2 comments I'm reading Down These Strange Streets by George R.R. Martin
And the warded man by peter brett, I've read probably 10 books so far this year I'm a book junkie!lol but I'm sure everyone on GR is so no biggie!

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments I don't know Tim, you have read more books (pages wise) than me. I`m not a fast reader.
The world building of the The Warded Man is different. I really liked sequel, the The Desert Spear too.

message 82: by Christine (new)

Christine | 850 comments I also just finished Immortal in Death (In Death, #3) by J.D. Robb and think this was my favorite so far. The mysteries aren't all that mysterious, as I felt like I was a step ahead of Eve most of the time, but I still really enjoy reading about these characters. And I still love Roarke. Next, I think I just might finally start A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole

message 83: by Lis (new)

Finding it difficult to read Feed (Newsflesh Trilogy #1) by Mira Grant but Ashfall (Ashfall, #1) by Mike Mullin is a little easier.

message 86: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I finally finished a couple of books!!

I finished Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling, #2) by Nalini Singh and How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper .

I'm currently reading The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #2) by Molly Harper .

message 87: by Christine (new)

Christine | 850 comments I finished A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole and really liked it almost against my will. Then I read The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa which is the first YA book I've honestly ever enjoyed. Then was Deeper Than Midnight (Midnight Breed, #9) by Lara Adrian . I enjoyed Hunter's story, but can't wait for Chase's book tomorrow!!! Until then I've started Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin, #1) by G.A. Aiken . I'm not quite feeling the chemistry, but it's growing on me and I enjoy some of the humor.

Sandra | 25907 comments I just finished The Dragon Who Loved Me (Dragon Kin, #5) by G.A. Aiken for our dragon challenge, among others, of course.

Loved it, but not so much for our H/h, who were good but not great, but all the other characters, who are like old friends.

Technically, yes, it's #2. But the first The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark, #1) by Kresley Cole is a prequel released as an ebook after A Hunger Like no Other was published. Since I don't have an e-reader I skipped it. I don't think I missed anything, but if I ever get an ereader, I will go back and check it out. I think you can get it for only 1.99 on Amazon

message 99: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25907 comments It was first published in the anthology Playing Easy to Get (Includes B.A.D. Series, #1.5; Vikings Underground, #3; Immortals After Dark, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon so you might be able to pick that up at your library.

It is Myst & Nicolai Wroth's story, and quite good.

Thanks for that info, Sandra. I'll have to look for that. I don't usually care for the stories in anthologies, but everyone has said this one is worth the read.
