I've heard really mixed things about the series, which is why I keep putting it off....

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments The book didn't hold my interest enough for me to continue reading. I also had just gone through the author's two other series. Maybe some day. :)

When I think of Kate Daniels, I think of really intricate world building that is similar to epic fantasy books. I actually can't think of anything similar. But Kate holds a special place in my heart. :)

Mine, too. Nothing else quite compares. Some get close, but Kate Daniels just has the special blend of drama, action, heart, humor, and a unique world.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments Why can't we have more great world building like the Kate Daniels universe? Hell, even A Mere Formality managed in a few dozen pages to be rich on background story.

Currently reading Kindling the Moon (Arcadia Bell, #1) by Jenn Bennett and liking it.

I would have to agree, I love Richelle Mead and all her other series but could not get into Storm Born. It just seemed like there was an underlying theme of rape and being submissive (which was not expected from the blurb) and it really put me off the rest of the series, even though I bought the first 3 books in advance.

message 559: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments That is frustrating when you buy the books but don't intend to get to them. I know the feeling. I recently bought 2 audio books, started them and just did not like them enough to finish.

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments I know, I'm not quite sure what to do with them at this stage, if I didn't read them before I donated them it would feel like a waste.

It actually gets a little better as the series goes... I think it's that first book world building hurdle that makes this one drag a little. I did most of the series in audio which might have made it easier to get thru along with my book buddy texting me about that #%^€£¥!! Kitsuni...

But now I'm back in the horse, continuing with The Second Sunrise (a really crazy book...destined for my 'soo bad it's funny' shelf) and I'm also finishing Lirael which has been really tiresome.

You were missed. :) What did she graduate from? Congrats to her!

I am reading Shady Lady (Corine Solomon, #3) by Ann Aguirre and I am almost done with it. I am listening to Shoot to Thrill (Monkeewrench, #5) by P.J. Tracy

As soon as I am done with Shady Lady I will read this (I cannot wait!), it just came through on my kindle -- it is a short story in the troubleshooters series Beginnings and Ends (Troubleshooters) by Brockmann, Suzanne

Double major in Nutrition & Dietetics. It took a lot of work but she's done now!

message 567: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Double majors are hard work, that is impressive. :) I hope she finds a job soon! Sounds like she is in a good field.

She has a job right now working for a health food store (nothing big but it helps with the bills) so at least she can take her time looking for something better.

message 572: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Just started The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in audio (which I'm enjoying).

I also started organizing the first in a series books I have on my TBR and discovered I have 105! Then I organized them on my iPad depending on how many books have been published 1-4, 5-9 or 10+ (in this latter group, I have 10 different series!) Oh well, at least I know I don't continue every series I start.

Waaaahhhh! That's sad but it's kind of nice at the same time, I don't like when a series goes on and on and doesn't know when to stop. Oooh, they look very interesting, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on those :)

Sandra | 25908 comments Finally started Master of Fire by Angela Knight which I've had hanging around for a long time. Need to get up to date with this series, cause there's a new one on the way.

message 592: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Sara & Paris, the Psy-Changelings series just builds & builds. There is a serious series arc that you really can't see in the first couple of books but it is definitely worth sticking at it.

Book #3 Caressed By Ice (Psy-Changeling, #3) by Nalini Singh is considered by many to be the best, but it is the sort of series you can't skip books or you'll miss stuff.

I agree with Sandra. The first two books were good but not great for me, but I loved the third book. It's in the third one that she really starts to build the story arc the spans the series to date. Plus, I just love Judd. : )

Some books of the series are better than others and I think every one of my friends who have read them have a different favorite book, so there seems to be something for everyone in this series. What I really like about it, and why it's become my favorite PNR series, is that I think Nalini Singh does a great job of letting me feel what the characters are feeling instead of just telling me. And unlike some other series she does a great job of balancing the UF-like story arc with the passionate romance plot of each book. They are both integral to the series and you don't have the gross inconsistencies you see in some series (BDB?). Plus, her females are just as strong and central to the series as her males, so they aren't just sitting around the mansion waiting for the boys to come home and have sex with them. They're actually an active part of every story. The more PNR series I read, the more I love this one...

P.S. Number six is my personal favorite.

Another good series. Again, some books are better than others, but overall a solid read. And just when I thought the series was getting worn out, she totally mixed things up in the latest release (#10) and I can't wait to see where she takes it next.

message 596: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Thanks Sandra and Christine for the input on the Psy-Changelings series. I'll definitely keep it in mind while I read book one. Knowing that it gets better is definitely a plus. I'm so new to a lot of these series so it's great to have people like you guys to give me hope!

D.G. | 2752 comments Ditto what Sandra & Christine said about the Psy-Changeling series. :)

I loved the Psy-Changeling series from the first book but that was the series that made me "get" the PNR genre. Before that, I had read tons of mediocre series which I kept abandoning because I didn't like them at all.

Book #2 is somewhat similar to the first but as the other ladies said, it's really important to read them in order because some characters that are introduced here will show up later.
