Yes, it's quite gruesome and horrific, so I think some people may be put off by it, but I think it's an important book that EVERYONE should read.

In general the "popular" ones are "taken" and someone has to move to their #2 or #3 choice etc. For instance if I were to try and post now I would be at like choice #5 since all my other "higher picks" are already on the list.

I have this book and have tried to read it a couple of times. I loved the movie version with Ethan Hawke and Gwenyth Paltrow. I haven't gotten very far into the novel but you have inspired me to give it another try soon. I tend to stay in my safety zone of post WWII novels. I need to read more classics.
