Sierra~Kelley i keep picking up this book only to place it back...is this book good?

message 2: by AJ (new) - rated it 3 stars

AJ I'm mixed. I started reading it because I thought the premise was different from a lot of other books out there. It started well - jumping straight into the disappearance of all of the adults, then all the mutations started, there was a bit of a romance and mega-bullies and battle scenes. But I started to lose interest when big mutant mystery animals came into it. Weird.

The most annoying thing is there are no answers to what actually caused the whole thing in the first place - obviously meant to be a ploy to get you to buy more books. I actually have the next two in the series, but just can't get myself interested enough to start reading them. How the author is going to stretch it out over 6 books I really don't know!

It all depends on what kind of books float your boat. I recommend give it a try, but don't have too high expectations.

Alya You should continue it, it gets very very good eventually!

At first when I started reading this, I was kinda like you. I would pick it up and almost instantly put it back down.
The first book didn't really do much for me, and I kinda underestimated the plot at first.
The first book is, in a way, like an introduction to the series.
Its a formality to the characters, environment, animals, and the basic situation of the book and that's it. Not much plot advancement.
And after I finished it, I wasn't very motivated to read the 2nd.
But I am so glad that I did eventualy.

It's in the 2nd book that the story really gets interesting!
You'd already have an understanding of the series from the first book, so now that that's done with, the author can move on to actually telling the story. And in my opinion it got really really good.
I couldn't stop reading it! It was such a page turner for me...
The thing that I like most about this series is that it has alot of perspectives.
There are alot of characters, and the author switchs between perspectives every chapter and sometimes in one chapter, there will be like 3 different people. And the perspectives come from not just good characters, but mean characters, evil characters...etc. And it all works, it doesn't give you a headache, it isn't too much to proccess either.

So I definatly recommend this book to you if you like books that are suspencefull, thriller-like, with BIG questions that don't get answered straight-away.
It's actually become my second fav' series!

If your in to dystopia and horror fiction novels this book is a pretty good choice. I wasn't to excited about finishing the first book but I had to read it for my English class (either this or some dead guys book) and I did NOT regret it! Lots of action and gore (kind of horrifying) and mystery so it always kept me on edge. I eventually got the rest of the series for christmas and finished it in like a week. Gone is now my 3rd favorite series (after the hunger games and Percy Jackson) please give it a try!

Miranda Swift This book is an amazing book! read it

Isabel this book was good, but the rest are a bit ify.

Catfish :D It was AMAZING! I hate gore, but this... This was terrific.

Aileen Are you kidding?! This is an amazing series! I got hooked on the first book! And yeah maybe you want all the answers now, but where's the fun in that? It keeps getting more and more interesting with each book! Like oh man in Lies it's awesome they're on the point of desperation you know? It really shows a lot on human behavior I think. You should mostly definitely continue reading!

Danielle. READ. IT.

Kat Mellon I'm enjoying this book so far. I certainly don't let the reader in on the big picture in the first of my trilogy, so I totally respect that Grant did the same with GONE. Sure, it's gory. However, it takes a very solid and truthful approach as to how this stuff would go down if kids were in charge. Grant brought up aspects of life without adults that I never considered before.

User Based Casting picked it up, and I'm sure we'll see some interesting actors and actresses vying for roles soon.

Anna Read it i'm only starting Hunger but i read Gone in about 2 days i couldn't put it down

Apollo You should read it. It's been good so far and gets interesting as you read more.

Sierra~Kelley Thanks all!i think i will give this book a try after all!

message 16: by Asil (new) - rated it 5 stars

Asil Mousa You should read it! I read Gone and Hunger and im looking for Lies and Plague. I personally think that the first two were interesting and they get better when you get deeper into the book.I recommend it!

David jones It's pretty good. I liked the concept and whatnot, but hated the writing style since he is trying to write like a 14 year old and under person would. It would've been better in 1st person. I am going to read the 2nd one eventually. I liked the action and the battle scenes.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

You'll eventually fall in love with the characters. I couldn't help myself ;P

message 19: by Marisol (new) - added it

Marisol I dunno... I was hooked the first time I read it, but as I look back on it, the whole basis of the novel is a little flawed and simple. Also, THERE WAS NO END! I read it for three books, and just had to stop, 'cause there is never a good part. Not that I haven't read extremely depressing plots and still liked the books (Mockingjay is proof), but this one had no substance that I could rely on while reading it, so I couldn't trust that it would get any better.

message 20: by Sam (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sam This is an excellent novel... if you're a fan of dystopia, and not of a weak stomach, Gone will rattle your world. The first hundred pages are slow-going and placed to set the plot, but when it does get interesting, boy does it never stop. Slaughter, murder, and gore fills these pages.. Personally, there is a slight connection to Lord of the Flies, but way better.

Chantal it is so good. I did not want to read at first as well but them after i read it i fell in love with it. It is exciting and you will not be disappointed.

message 22: by Anna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anna It is addictive i couldn't put them down! If you want to be really scared but in a really intense and awesome way read it. but be expected for really weird things to happen. you just have to except all the odd things in these books but there amazing!

Maddie I'm in love with this series!

Samantha I just read the first Gone novel a couple days ago and it was AWESOME. But then I read some reviews on the next couple of books, and saw stuff that said there was a lot of sex/violence in them. I'm pre reading them for my younger brother, and I need to know if the stuff is really bad in them? Is it that much gorier than any of the stuff in book one (E.G. Drake's arm getting sawed off) and how in detail do they go with the sex stuff?? Anything you have to add to this would be appreciated, thanks so much!

READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im only on book number 4, Plague but im in love with this series! as far as the gore scenes go there is some deaths and battles that take place but altogether it isnt that bad it hasnt been like horrifying! Also, so far they have only made some vague references about sex and what not but havent explained in lots of detail! i'd say keep reading them and make the decision based on how the books go for you but i can definitely say the first 4 books will be fine for him to read :) hope this helps!

Okay, he's 15, and the gore shouldn't bother him too much :p thanks very much for answering my question. I think I will read the rest of this series just because I desperately need to see everything that happens and the how and they why! :)
