Thank you :)

Rachel the Book Harlot I finished Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale which I really liked. I wasn't happy with the heroine in the second half of the book but I loved Christian. The writing was superb.

Now I'm reading Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quiñonez by Ernesto Quinonez and Clean (Mindspace Investigations, #1) by Alex Hughes by Alex Hughes.

Yes, great book, Rachel. But I'm with you; I wished the heroine would have come to her senses a lot sooner. She drove me crazy.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I'm trying to go vegan; I've made it almost seven days so far. I'm reading 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart Boost Metabolism, Lower Cholesterol, and Dramatically Improve Your Health by Neal D. Barnard and enjoying it. However, it was best in the beginning. Maybe b/c I'm a nurse, some of it he rehashes too much for me. But some of his theories are really interesting.

Well I enjoyed the book but I didn't like it much. Both characters are unlikeable as they are too self centered and the ending is really abrupt and bad. The twist in the story in the middle of the book is good though. Kept me going till the end.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments ShoSho wrote: "How are you doing?"

I'm doing great, Shosho! I started b/c my BFF wanted to do it. I spent a week being vegan for breakfast & lunch, but not dinner (though my protein servings were smaller than previous). I totally thought this was going to be tough to do with the remodel.

Then I went strict vegan for two days and the swelling in my feet dramatically reduced! It was amazing! Realize, my feet were terribly swollen and the skin HURT! After five days it was completely gone. While I still have swollen ankles, my feet are back to normal and I can see the bones in them for the first time in years.

I've been strict vegan for eight full days, with this being the start of my ninth. All my joints still ached for days (as they did b/f this), I'm sure from arthritis, but today I woke up pretty pain free and moving much easier.

With such dramatic results, it is pretty easy to stick with it. I'm shopping more at Whole Foods and they have some wonderful meat substitutes. I'm reading everything I can get my hands on.

And, I've decided the first thing I'll cook in my new kitchen - and fabulous oven - will be a totally vegan meal. So, I'm really scouring the cookbooks. It is fun! I must admit, I'm enjoying Skinny Bitch: Ultimate Everyday Cookbook: Crazy Delicious Recipes that Are Good to the Earth and Great for Your Bod is the best! But, I'm dying to try Sell Your Soul Pumpkin Cookies I found in Isa Chandra Moskowitz's book, Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar: 100 Dairy-Free Recipes for Everyone's Favorite Treats. I'll let you know if they are any good; if so, I'll post the recipe under our recipe folder.

Thanks, Rachel! I thought it would be much harder to give up dairy, as I'm an ice cream addict. However, I've resorted to an ice cream alternative, and nibbled on it just a few times. I'm also amazed that I'm not hungry on this plant-based lifestyle at all. Well, if I eat. I've had a few occasions where I've been running around and couldn't stop to eat - which I did b/f this. But, when I take the time, I'm totally satisfied. I've even gone to a vegan restaurant, which I loved.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Well, Elishia, it might be for you! I was very skeptical. As I said, I did it mostly for my best friend and because I was so miserable. I really thought I'd fail. It has all been a big surprise to me.

I love to cook...something I haven't done much of lately (unless I go to a friend's house). I'm loving the beautiful cookbooks! So pretty! This is all new to me. I'm also doing an on-line kickstart program and getting ready to do a video kickstart, too.

I have TiVo and, when I did a search, I discovered they have 50 three minute recipes to watch! Who knew?
