Rachel the Book Harlot Unfortunately, I had to DNF Nerves of Steel (Hart and Drake, #1) by C.J. Lyons . There were just too many things that didn't make logical sense -- it kept pulling me out of the story. Anyhoo, next up is Gwen's Ghost by Lynn Kerstan by Lynn Kerstan. It's a quirky paranormal regency romance.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1416 comments Working on A Rake's Vow! Devil's Bride and A Rake's Vow (Cynster Series, Book 1 & 2) by Stephanie Laurens . Had to repair my book today though. It was a Goodwill find, so it was slightly worn to begin with, but because it's a dual edition of #1 and 2 it's pretty thick and the creases in the spine were already bad but it just cracked and I had two halves, separate, in my hands. So some careful application of Gorilla wood glue, squished it under a case of bottled water for a few hours and now it's as good as new, well, almost. At least it's one whole book again lol, and I didn't get the pages stuck together where they were unreadable, so it's good to me :D

Hi everyone! I'm new here (just posted on the intro thread), but I'm going to go ahead and just jump in. ;)

I've been working on Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward little-by-little, but it's really not holding me. I can't not finish it, though, so I'll keep after it. In the meantime, I picked up Slave (Finding Anna #1) by Sherri Hayes . It a good psychological journey (and I mean that literally - halfway through it, and there's been no love scenes), but it might end up on the "finish later" shelf. The character growth is totally realistic (which is great), but that also means it's dragging the plot down to a crawl. To kickstart my brain again, I decided it was time to move on with the Rough Riders series. Picked up Cowgirl Up and Ride (Rough Riders #3) by Lorelei James and I'm simply devouring it!

I actually had to skim/read the beginning of this one (something I hardly ever do) because the character arcs and the plot weren't meshing at all. At around 30% in, the world made sense again and it turned out to be a pretty damn good story. :)

Hi Kyra! So glad you're just jumping in! I devoured Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward Tor made me SOOOO mad, many times in there, but it was worth it in the end :)

I'm reading A Rake's Vow (Cynster, #2) by Stephanie Laurens (with Kit) and when I finish that, I've got to read Orchard Valley Grooms by Debbie Macomber so I can finish this month's challenge.

I was so upset with Phury's book that I put it down and came back to it a few months later. it's been my least favorite of the series. I wouldn't mind another Zsadist book either. Or Rhage :)

@Susan - Oh, yeah. I could go for another Rhage book. ;) I plowed through Phury - I just wanted it done and get to the next one. There's no "next one" after Lover Reborn (yet), so there's less incentive. LOL

So true. Even though Lover Awakened is probably my favorite book of the series, Lover Eternal is the one I reread most often. Well, I guess I would say that Lover Eternal is a very close second to LA. I've read that book so many times that it's embarrassing. Heh. I also loved the Zsadist/Bella novella, Father Mine. :) My three faves are LA, LE, and LAv.

@Rachel - Lover Awakened and Father Mine I've read about a bazillion times. LOL (Especially FM) All the others I've read only once. Although, I have to say, it's not a lack for want - it's a lack for time, and too many other books on the tumbling TBR stack. :)

MEHHHHHHHH 2 stars from me....I wasn't impressed with this book at all. I have heard a lot of great stuff about it also but I thought it was rather boring in a lot of places. I liked the "idea" of the story but could do without all the racing stuff and feel like the story could have been developed a lot better with a narrator that "did know all the details." Just not my type of book I guess. I stayed with it and got it out of the way ONLY because I needed it for my challenge otherwise I probably would have laid it down and finished it months from now LOL This is probably not a book I would recommend but you might like it.

I'm sorry you didn't like your book, Robin. But, at the same time, I find it so interesting when one book speaks to two people so differently. I guess that's why there's something for everyone out there. (Yes, I actually find that interesting. And, yes, I know how geeky that sounds.) ;)

That's interesting too, sometimes I see something that's so well rated that I feel bad if I don't like it, will be keen to see which side of the fence I fall on... having said that, I'm such a moody reader, that I can put down a book for the simple reason that I wasn't in the mood for it.

I'm becoming a moody reader. I just created a "finish later" shelf - something I never had before. It used to drive me nuts not to finish a book (like OCD-type-nuts), but I'm finding it easier and easier to move on with the next if this one isn't doing it for me. Kinda makes life easier. ;)

Thanks Kyra!! Geeky or not it fascinates me as well LOL ☺ I know there are books that I LOVE but other people don't like them. I like the variety of opinions about books and like to see the discussions because I often learn things that I missed or just didn't see or sometimes what other people liked helps clarify (sometimes changes my opinion) what I didn't like.

@Laura I don't go by a lot of reviews either because I usually am the odd man out and tend to not go/roll with the flow LOL I read books that trip my trigger (whether it be a pretty cover or the synopsis) and read it. If I like it...fine If I don't like it...fine LOLOL

@Caro B...I tend to feel guilty/bad if it is a book that everyone praises and I don't and I always hate to go back to my friends and say I just didn't get it/like it. But not everyone likes the same things.

@ Susan I am a moody reader too!!! I have no problem laying a book down and picking it up later to see if I can relate to it and get through it. Sometimes I can and enjoy it and sometimes I just can't. But at least I tried. If we try does that mean we get an "E" for Effort ☺

I know what you mean. Sometimes others will have a totally different perspective than me, and have all these insights that I never would have considered. But once I see what they have to say, it can pull me into that line of thinking. Not always, but sometimes. :)

One of the things I like about this group is that I feel free to share how I really feel about a book and what I really think of it. Of course whenever I see someone didn't enjoy a book as much as I did I will probably ask you why. When I don't enjoy a book as much as everyone else it's either because it pushes my buttons or because I wasn't in the mood for it. Yep, I'm a moody reader too!

message 750: by [deleted user] (new)

@Laura - Yeah, I was pretty disappointed that grown women would act that way.

@Gisela - I'm glad to hear that about this group. I'm always up for discussing what I did or didn't like about a book, and then getting other's views on it. That's the fun part! I noticed that some of my reads are a bit racier than others that I've seen around the threads. But until someone tells me "Get your smutty self outta here.", I'll be sticking around. LOL
