And what can I say about Robinson Crusoe?

If you haven't read it, then you have missed a great classic. All of human emotion is there. It is not about a man stuck on a desert island, it is about the human condition.

Robinson Crusoe

Paul (latepaul) Melvin Bragg did an In Our Time on it just before Christmas. I haven't listened to it yet in case I decide to read it (not sure yet as I have a lot else to read).

Will Granger | 15 comments I wanted to like this, I really did, and I would love to visit the island; however, I just did not enjoy the writing style. It dragged for me.

Kay (Golden Girl) | 2193 comments I did not enjoy this book ,found it repetitive and boring , had to really force myself to finish.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I started to wish Friday had been a cannibal that would have shortened it! Sorry to all those who enjoyed it;0)

Ainetheon | 35 comments I have decided to read this as my first book as a member of this group. Downloaded from Amazon today and hope to get it started this weekend, albeit I have a hellishly busy weekend ahead.

Ainetheon | 35 comments Made a start on this book yesterday - before the onslaught of a busy weekend overtakes me. So far:

Chapter 1-3 read:
So far I have managed to get into the 'voice' of the book. The long, and frequently punctuated, sentences feels a little bit like tying shoelaces after one has been used to fast and furious velcro. But I don't mind shoelaces once I get the shoes on. Defoe did not disappoint me as a child and he is just as colourful now that I am well into middle age. Maybe this is partly due to the fact I can see the events happening in my head; being able to visualise Yarmouth, Winterton and Cromer he mentions.

Defoe makes good use of descriptive language to paint his picture for the reader. He does tend to overdress his descriptions at times but this did not detract from my enjoyment.

TBC......
