Well it can be as simple as clearing up your bought to-read pile or re-reading a series you loved, or if you are me, you start a series, love it and then ignore for a year.It can be anything, even something as stupid as reading all books with the word 'Christmas' in it, in December!
I like the format of another group I'm in where they have a few rules but only for titles. If it's a personal challenge you start with 'Self Challenge'
and if it is a group challenge you start with, surprisingly, 'Group Challenge'
Although in that group people can join in with the self challenges too.
It's also nice that it isn't a pressure thing as many people don't complete their challenges, but it's fun to make a list........
I spent a large part of the summer reading books by Indie Authors from this group,it was a wonderful experience and introduced me to people and genres I would never have considered previously.
See it could be like, Read only indies for a month (for people who haven't read any or only one - like me!)
I would second that Sarah, we have found some true gems, in fact I seem to read more Indies than others of late.Louise I am happy to give it a go.
I'm not sure how you want to set this up but I will set up a folder called 'Group Challenges' and post some rubbish as the first post (It must have at least one post). If you want to then go along and post some guidelines I will then delete my post so yours is at the top. Then, see how you get on and we can fiddle it where neccessary. There is a beta facility for group challenges in Goodreads but it is all based on your 'read' list so I thought I would wait until they got it into a good state before inflicting it on the group....
When I read the title, I thought "Hey! What a great idea!" and I still think it's a good idea! I do have a question though... Does it have to be literature related? (:

I love challenges when it comes to reading as it really encourages me to read, but I find that many of the groups I belong too are focused on one genre therefore a lot of the books I read aren't suitable for one challenge or another. Since this group is only particular to a place then it wouldn't matter what books would be in a challenge.
Obviously this won't appeal to everyone but I was wondering if anyone else enjoyed a good challenge?
