Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments So, I know we have our group read every month but I was wondering if it'd be a nice idea if we have a section where we can have some challenges or even post our personal challenges?

I love challenges when it comes to reading as it really encourages me to read, but I find that many of the groups I belong too are focused on one genre therefore a lot of the books I read aren't suitable for one challenge or another. Since this group is only particular to a place then it wouldn't matter what books would be in a challenge.

Obviously this won't appeal to everyone but I was wondering if anyone else enjoyed a good challenge?

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Sounds Interesting Louise, what kind of challenges do you have in mind?

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Well it can be as simple as clearing up your bought to-read pile or re-reading a series you loved, or if you are me, you start a series, love it and then ignore for a year.

It can be anything, even something as stupid as reading all books with the word 'Christmas' in it, in December!

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I don't know if I have the imagination to think of challenges, but I'm happy to join in if I can !

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I have pondered on this, I am open to suggestions....

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I like the format of another group I'm in where they have a few rules but only for titles.

If it's a personal challenge you start with 'Self Challenge'

and if it is a group challenge you start with, surprisingly, 'Group Challenge'

Although in that group people can join in with the self challenges too.

It's also nice that it isn't a pressure thing as many people don't complete their challenges, but it's fun to make a list........

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm mentally challenged. Does that count?

message 8: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Lol ignite, if you are mentally challenged there is no hope for the rest of us !

message 9: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Tsk Ignite, don't be silly. We would definitely have no hope Lorraine!

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I spent a large part of the summer reading books by Indie Authors from this group,it was a wonderful experience and introduced me to people and genres I would never have considered previously.

message 11: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'll echo that Sarah. Indies are the new heroes in my book.

message 12: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments See it could be like, Read only indies for a month (for people who haven't read any or only one - like me!)

message 13: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments I would second that Sarah, we have found some true gems, in fact I seem to read more Indies than others of late.

Louise I am happy to give it a go.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I'm not sure how you want to set this up but I will set up a folder called 'Group Challenges' and post some rubbish as the first post (It must have at least one post). If you want to then go along and post some guidelines I will then delete my post so yours is at the top. Then, see how you get on and we can fiddle it where neccessary.

There is a beta facility for group challenges in Goodreads but it is all based on your 'read' list so I thought I would wait until they got it into a good state before inflicting it on the group....

Katy | 2662 comments When I read the title, I thought "Hey! What a great idea!" and I still think it's a good idea!

I do have a question though... Does it have to be literature related? (:

message 16: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I think so Katy... so what's the first challenge then?

message 17: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Suppose it could be anything Katy. I wasn't on all day yesterday guys so sorry about that.

I am in the process of writing a post for the top and my own first 'self challenge' and then maybe another post for 'suggestions for challenges'?
