message 1: by Andrew (new) - added it

Andrew As with The Year of Magical Thinking, Carol Devine Carson chose to include a sort of hidden message in the lettering of this book cover. In Magical Thinking, the alternate colored letters spelled JOHN. This time, the different colored letters spell NO, but not all copies do. The one I own has just NO in a lighter color, but others I've seen spell NO ROO, which kind of makes more sense.

Anyone else notice this? Anyone know why the difference? I cannot find anything online about this.

Lise Wow! I had not noticed this. My copy of Blue Nights (published in US but purchased in Australia) has NO. I just spent 20 minutes searching my bookshelf for Magical Thinking .... I can't believe I hadn't seen JOHN before! Okay, I am going to spend a bit more time just looking at a book's cover before diving in.

Heather Anderson Our library copy had the "No". i didn't know about the "No Roo." interesting. This book made me cry several times. I'm glad she wrote this.

Lorrie What did Joan's daughter die of? Does anyone know? Complications from pneumonia? Something else? She never really says.
