Yay!! I'm so excited. Welcome everyone. If anyone starts early please go ahead and post what you think. Just please be careful about spoilers. I've never read this author before so it will be totally new to me. Anyone else completely new to this author?
meif anyone doesn't know how to do spoilers, cut and paste the following...and remove the !
at the beginning
!spoiler> at the end
I'm totally new to this author as well. I hear good things about this series so I'm excited to give it a try.
I started this book this afternoon. I read only first chapter so far. I must say, original beginning...
So far, I like it pretty well. I am on page 192. I call this paranormal lite. There are a few things that bug me. It has interesting mentions of religion. And the author has included some pretty funny ideas for vampires. I like Vampire Television!
I am at 44% (or at page 165 from 372, says my trusty Kindle). Some impressions so far:

What are the things bugging you Leslie?
I agree about Roman- I don't care a great deal about a depressed vampire as the hero. I like the fact that he's a scientist and was a monk. But I prefer a more alpha male. My favorite parts were the highland guards- I especially liked Connor. And the heroine is way too whiny for me as well. Their relationship just didn't have enough something. But I loved the concept of Vampire Television and all the other crazy concepts she came up with. But I also thought the characters were too one dimensional and caricature like.
65%... I am a little bit slower reader than you, but I am nearing the end...Still not feeling the chemistry between Shanna and Roman at all. I was expecting a lot more sexy scenes between them by now. This is definitely 'paranormal lite'. :)
Vampire television is a the most interesting and funny concept in book. And that tv reporter with fake breasts. LOL When Roman confused her name was the only scene so far that was really funny to me.
I finally got to start this last night. Not sure how I feel about it yet. It's entertaining so far, but I guess I expected it to be funnier.
The author seemed to have some funny ideas, but they didn't seem particularly connected to the story. It's like she threw them in to make it funny. And some of the characters were amusing but again there was a disconnect. And it's hard to have chemistry when you are depressed. And what do you think about the vamp harem? Did you just think that was odd. Once every one has finished the book I will give my theory about some of the things in the book.
Finished. For me this is a 3 star read. Nothing very special. Maybe I will read next book in series, but I do not have that yearning that stays after good book that you have to find out what happens to the characters right now.
I agree that harem is weird and whole 'vampire sex' thing. (view spoiler) o.O
This was a 3 star read for me as well. It was alright, not bad not great, but certainly not a series I feel a huge need to continue with at the moment. There were a number of amusing ideas and moments in the book, but the whole depressed, I hate being a vampire thing got on my nerves after a while. And so did the heroine. She couldn't seem to make up her mind about anything. (view spoiler) The scientist aspect of Roman's character was pretty interesting though. I liked that he invented synthetic blood and hearing about the other stuff he was working on. The highlanders were entertaining too.
It appears that we all had the same feeling about this book. That's kind of interesting. Most buddy reads have more different opinions. This one was pretty much of a consensus. No whiny vampires!
