Finnick. He just got Annie back and now she does this it was unnecessary and didn't add anything substantial to the the story.

The whole entire group was killed off in what? A chapter? That's a little unnecessary, especially Finnick!
Emily wrote: "I think all of the deaths were necessary. I know I'm in the minority but Suzanne Collins wrote this series to show what happens during war. The loss of people you love, acquaintances and how people..."I wholeheartedly agree. I think all of them were necessary.
Rebecca wrote: "Memolly96 wrote: "Finnick and Prim!"I absolutley agree with you! Susan Collins didn't need to kill Finnick and/or Prim."
I disagree... Prim's death was necessary in a few ways. First off, it fueled many things Katniss did in the rest of the series. Secondly, it makes the readers think, "What evil person would do that?!" and hate the enemy even more.
As for Finnick, I think he should have been mourned over a little more, or not killed at all. Just my opinions!

yeah I undrestand Prims, it was just really sad, but Finnick didn't need to die at all.
Finnick! What's the point of surviving TWO Hunger Games and end up being torn apart by a bunch of freaky wolf things?!?
Finnick!!!! she didnt even make a big/any deal about it plus like hundreds of people had died already so it was defanatly unnesisary to the series. Also was it Just me or did katniss never cry or even be sad whenever somebody died? (excuse me spelling and grammer im having an off day)
finnick shouldn't have died. i mean, it's so sad that he can finally live with his love, annie, and now, suddenly, he DIES!? it was waaaay to sad.and isn't prim (and all the others) enough?
To be honest, I wasn't shocked by Prim's death. When I read it I remembered being caught off guard slightly, but I knew something to that extent would happen with Prim. Finnick's death is what made me so angry. I still do not see the justification. Yes, it's war, people die, but I feel like Suzanne Collins just may have gotten tired of some characters and just killed them off.
PRIM! by killing prim it makes the entire series pointless because it was all for prim... the reason all of this even happened was katniss sacrificing for prim and then thousands of people sacrificing for katniss so essentially it all comes down to prim. so pointless!
The fact that Rue's death had such a dramatic description while Finnick's was a mere phrase in the middle of an escape scene showed how the ongoing intense brutalitiy effected the characters. Survival trumps sympathy.
Prim. She was so sweet and innocent, and her death was completely terrible.
Why did Prim have a reason to die? She is just a sweet 13 year old whose sister went through the Hunger Games, the Quarter Quell, AND started a war.
Megan (the #1 Gale fan) wrote: "hehe i didnt like prim"To be honest, I didn't like Prim either. Her character actually annoyed me.
Finnick Odair was my absolute favorite character in the entire trilogy. His death was rushed, unjustified, and badly written. I was so happy for him when he got married. Finnick and Annie made a great couple. I think Collins went a little overboard in killing off characters in order to evoke emotions in her readers. Killing off Finnick did not progress the plot any further and now Collins has a mob of angry fans to deal with. The death of her sister Prim was more reasonable although i feel like it was also badly written out. If she wasn't killed, Katniss wouldn't have shot Coin. Prim was not my favorite character, but I still found her likable.
Both character deaths could have been made more dramatic and emotional if Collins spent more time planning them.
Although, Gale didn't die in the end, the way that Collins just pushed him aside made it feel like he wasn't important to the storyline. He and Katniss were best friends who supported each other and their families for years. Then at the end he just disappears from the story with some lame reason.
Another death I didn't like was Cinna's. I liked how Cinna and his team were trying so hard to help Katniss. I know all he did was make her clothing, but I liked his personality. His death was probably used to show that in times of war, no one is ever truly safe, but I was hoping that maybe he didn't die and would appear in the end. I hoped this would happen with Finnick as well. I kept hoping that perhaps Finnick found a way to escape from the mutts and he would reappear in the end to have a family with Annie. Sadly, this did not happen. :(
Overall, the third book was the worst of the trilogy and in my opinion had an excess of character deaths.
Kirby wrote: "I think cinna's death was necessary for katniss to embrace her role as the mockingjay.I think finnick's death was necessary to show that the good guys get killed in inglorious ways.
I think prim..."
Well said. All the deaths were necessary — especially Prim's. Although I agree that Finnick's was a bit sudden and Katniss "moved on" quickly, she had a job to complete and people more important to her that she needed to focus on. His death was motivation for her to get the job done.
Prim's was extremely powerful. The author didn't dwell on it because (1) it mirrored the speed of her death and (2) it made that last look at each other and mouthing "Katniss" that much more moving.
PRIM! She was the whole reason Katniss went into the games and all these things happened why would she end up dying a few months later??? What was the point??
Karen wrote: "It was surprising to me at how Rue's death and welfare was agonized over in the first book, while Prim's death was glossed over by comparison. It did not evoke the emotion that the first book did ..."I agree with you about the death of Rue compared with Prim. The third book did seem a little more rushed than the first to books. It might have been better if there were four books...
finnickand that guy, Bogs or Bins or something, that one who said: "we just saw F.O. in his underwear". I liked him.
PRIM. I can't believe she died after everything. It was a little shocking. Okay, a LOT shocking. For me, anyway. Even though I suspected it was coming.
There are no unnecessary deaths in this story, or rather they are ALL unnecessary deaths. The brutal but ultimate truth about war is this: people always die. This is something that I respect about the author: she recognized that in order to make her war feel real, she could not flinch away from killing otherwise likable characters in ways that seem tragic. War is tragedy, and though that may offend some oversensitive readers, the deaths in this story DO serve a concrete purpose.
Definetly Finnick. He was alive and *oops* all of a sudden he was dead! I don't think there was any point in killing him off. Suzanne Collins killed off nearly every single character introduced in the series! Prim was also an unnecassary death as she died right on the last few pages of the book. Katniss by then had witnessed so much friends and people dying.
Dana wrote: "Definetly Finnick. He was alive and *oops* all of a sudden he was dead! I don't think there was any point in killing him off. Suzanne Collins killed off nearly every single character introduced in ..."Sorry to say, but Prims death played a big piece in the books. If not Coin (who was also evil), would of taken over.
Tim wrote: "There are no unnecessary deaths in this story, or rather they are ALL unnecessary deaths. The brutal but ultimate truth about war is this: people always die. This is something that I respect about ..."Sure, i agree but, i think that every death in the book has a meaning, i could list them all, most of them are about the capitol showing who's in control, but the death i can't find a meaning is Finnick's.
