Erin This book seems that it is written by a child. I like the story but the writing style seems a little unprofessional to me. Anyone think is was written a little unprofessional???

Kay I know.!!!
so i'm not the only one that thought of this
lol.(:

Erin Yeah like Aimee and Alan were having a serious conversation about Courtney at the Hospital and then shes like ," Blake likes me." It was like, why is that there?? I dont know why I bugs me.

Alec John There was just a lot of dialouge, which I am not used to

The Unicorn Riding Faerie[Vee] I think the Navajo thing was way to much for me.

Alaknanda k the novajo stuff wasn't convincing as there was not much picturization of the spirits and all about alan's spirit was to swallow the ghost in the climax!!!!

Alaknanda k and moreover the "novajo" isn't indian at all... being an indian i'm confident..... and our tribes were more into lord vishnu and shiva......
maybe novajo was asian but surely not indian

Erin Yeah, good point you guys. It was like things in the book werent very explained, like why were everyone fighting. I know the River Man but why??? I did not enjoy this book. The Navajo thing was to much for me to.
Also Aimee was a little undeveloped to me. I laughede when she like freaked out and told him she was dumping him because he was racisit. She did the right thing but I dont like how she did it.

Yay! More people that agree, this book really isn't that good!
Navajo's are native Americans. Americans use the term Indian to refer to them as well. Yeah it can get a little confusing.

Destiny Eicher It was a good book, but it was also confusing so I didn't like it that much in the end.

Carole I felt like the author was jumping from theme to theme. The river man wasn't fully explained , and it
would have been better if Alan was fully intune with
his heritage.
I was wondering if the reason the book feels choppy, poorly written is because it was a collaberation of 2 authors?
Maybe this is why the book feels disjointed.
I am glad I got this out of the library instead of buying it , as I won't be rereading it.
In the dedication she mentioned Melissa Marr and Jeaniene Frost for putting her intouch with the other author. I am wondering if she is trying to capitalize on their association? I really enjoyed Jeaniene and Melissa books?
What do you think?

Hmm...Interesting thought, I would like to think she isn't, since her one series, Need, seemed to do really well. But you never know...
I agree with everything else you have to say though, this work could have been worked on some more.

Erin i did not like this book!!!

message 14: by Tas (new) - rated it 1 star

Tas This book is on my DNF pile, I just couldn't connect with the book and it sure confused me.

Chelsie Good idea, terrible execution. Could of been MUCH better, even movie-worthy. But it just was trying to do to many things for it to be good. Also, it kinda lacked detail, among other things.

Sara ✨ The way this book is written is so annoying, Im forcing myself to finish it!!! I hate it!!! >:(

Lorena to tell the truth i was really disappointed with this book

you are mistaken, they refer to red indians and not us..

✨Selena Yukino✨ Girl, yes. This book was a fucking crippled ass mess. A fucking abomination.

Dhfan4life The sad thing is I've read plenty of YA stories like this when I was growing up and even come across a few like it still. And do to the weak story lines is why seldom/rarely read the YA genre now unless there is plenty of awesome and in-depth world, character, and explanation building going on. Because other wise I'd go nuts from so many books that have great concepts but aren't nearly as well executed as they should be.

Vivien Nguyen I don't know... I actually enjoyed this book! Got through it in 2 days, but I'm only young, so i wouldn't know about the whole Navajo/Indian thing...

Steven I've waited a long time to comment here, as it's generally bad policy for authors to join conversations like this. I'm not out to change anybody's opinion of After Obsession, but maybe give some perspective on publishing. The original draft of this novel was almost 102,000 words. What was published is closer to 75,000. Character development was cut, time compressed (thus the instalove and some events and dialogue that seem to lack context), and scenes that were deemed too intense for the YA market were severely scaled back or cut. I'm just saying what you got isn't the original vision Carrie and I had. Some of the edits were good for the story, but we disagreed with many of them. I share a lot of your complaints.

Carrie and I will have another collaboration coming from Tor sometime in the near future. Hopefully the finished product will be closer to our original idea this time. And hopefully you'll give us another chance. At any rate, thanks for trying After Obsession.
