SOLVED. Sci-fi - romance with alien on prison planet [s]

The book is about a girl who is in the resitance on earth to the aliens who have taken the planet over - she is captured, and shipped to a prison planet. One of the aliens, the one that captured her - I can't recal the name of their species, but the humans shortened it to Cats, does something bad and is shipped with them. The planet they are shipped to has some sort of underground life that comes up and eats anything alive at night. The humans quickly organise themselves into a civilised society.

This is the Catteni series by Anne McCaffrey. The aliens are Catteni.
The Catteni Series (also called the Freedom Series) is a tetralogy of science fiction novels by Anne McCaffrey. In this universe, humans are slaves of aliens, the humanoid Catteni. Woven through all four of the books are details of the relationship between Kristin Bjornsen, a former slave, and Zainal, a renegade Catteni.

The Catteni Series consists of four books:

If you're interested, there was also a short story that the Catteni series was based on called The Thorns of Barevi in an anthology called Get off the Unicorn. It never gets to the part where they end up on the planet and was more mature if I recall.
