The Captain's Christmas Family by Deborah Hale

How exciting to have Captain Gideon Radcliffe, the hero from The Captain's Christmas Family, a December release from Love Inspired Historical with us today.

1. Tell me the most interesting thing about you.

My travels, I suppose. I have circumnavigated the globe, a feat few people can boast. I have set foot on six different continents and seen many rare and strange sights.

2. What do you do for fun?

Until recently, I would not have known how to answer that question. But since coming to Knightley Park and meeting my young cousins, I would say that spending time in their company is enjoyable and amusing...more so than I ever imagined.

3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?

Sending word to the children's aunt that she should come and collect them. I know she is their rightful guardian and I do not expect to remain much longer at Knightley Park, yet I find myself strangely reluctant to think of them leaving.

4. What are you afraid of most in life?

Letting down the people who depend on me.

5. What do you want out of life?

To do my duty and serve my country to the best of my ability.

6. What is the most important thing to you?

My honor and my reputation. It has been great trial to me, having the latter besmirched by slanderous accusations and vile gossip.

7. Do you read books? If so, what is your favorite type of book?

Read books? Of course. It is the one thing that has remained constant between my life aboard HMS Integrity and my time at Knightley Park. I enjoy history. Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire is a work I particularly admire. But my favorite book from boyhood would be the Adventures of Robinson Crusoe.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would make myself less solitary, better able to express my feelings. Though I believe I am beginning to make some progress in that regard, thanks to my young cousins and their admirable governess, Miss Murray.

9. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?

When I was a child, I had a small terrier I called Retty. When my mother died and I was sent away to sea, I sent Retty to my cousin Daniel at Knightley Park. I hope he did not miss me as much as I missed him.

10. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and why?

I suppose might return to the Age of Chivalry, when men fought for ideals of honor. Faith was such an integral part of life back then. There are times I long for that kind of unshakable belief.
