Mike So, the premise of this book is that AI happens mostly by mistake... given the current state of technology - vast ability to provision thousands of computers - albeit virtual - and the focus on using data to provide better personalized services - it seems completely believable that some one's 'good'intentions could, any day now, result in a form of intelligence that can start to think for itself...

How far out do you think this scenario could occur? 2012? 2020?

William Hertling I think it's realistic today, and if it doesn't happen in the next twenty years, I'll be really surprised. The immense computing power available to IBM to create Watson will be similar to what we have on our desktops in twenty years. A million hackers around the world will advance AI far faster than a handful of researchers at IBM.

Sarah Bronte Connor all this little conversation convince me to buy your first book or novel. in the sequel up coming second book AIpocalypse would the scenario look also "realistic"???

the hostile Skinet AI was also created by accident in james cameron's terminator movies.

in Robopocalypse story, the AI was not created by accident at all.

the internet or world wide network in Computer One by warwick collins became a sentient AI by accident and humans never find out until it was too late.

Gavin Great story, (parable lesson?) told by Stephen Hawkins.

Humans create the first artificial intelligence. They ask it their first question, "Is there a GOD"? Answered... "There is now"
