Sara I read the first book and finished it a while ago. However, I watched the movie first. The swedish one with Noomi Rapace. I love the original films so much. I don't think she over did the part. She is beautiful, of course, but she pulled off the look of a punk recluse who could take down anything. She also did really well when talking wasn't a factor for a character, that's a pain in the ass thing to work with.

Also there is just something about seeing it in another language, it gives it an almost magical feel to it.

The guy who played Blomkvist was spot on. He wasn't attractive, but he was somehow very much the ladies man in the way he carried himself and the way he looked.... Even to a 19 year old like me! That's a major accomplishment!

I have not seen the american version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and to be honest, I really don't want to. Maybe somewhere in the distant future when it's on HBO, I'll sit and watch it, but from now till the end of time I am happily blown away by Noomi Rapace's abilities as an actress and the works of new up and coming Swedish director.

See the Swedish films first, they came out in early 2000, they were all amazing. I don't even want to see the American version because I loved the Swedish films so damn much. I may see the new versions later, but I'll wait till they are out to rent.

Launchingstars says, Thank God they didn't go into any more detail than they did. I'm still very creeped out by all those parts.. loved Lisbeth. She did a great job with her part.

Launchingstars Kelly wrote: "I saw the movie yesterday and really liked it. I agree with much of what has been said already. The Swedish version was excellent, but Daniel Craig was a better Blomkvist. I liked both of the actre..."
Lauchingstars says: agreed.

Rejean Sours I loved the movie. Im glad they didnt try to leave out the rape or her revenge. They did leave out some things but I thought it was great.

Diane I only saw the Swedish movie version- I loved them but I had already read the books and I think it helped to understand what was going on. I am looking forward to the American version for comparison!

It is very graphic.

Launchingstars I'm still creeped out by the serial murders comment, something like: It is amazing to me how people would rather die than offend people” And Why don’t people trust their instincts? Those women all came to me on their own accord.

Chris I enjoyed the movie and found both Craig and Rooney did great in their roles. I liked some parts of the Swedish movie better, while I found some things in the American movie better.

Melanie I thought the movie was very well done. After I made it through the first 100 pages of the book I loved it. I felt they did a great job of sticking to the important elements of the book. I certainly could have dome with less of the graphic images. I felt the 3 scenes that I felt were particularly graphic (2 rapes and the cat) were a bit long. I had to look away a few times and when I'd look back it was still going on! Very powerful, but... All in all they did a great job. The characters were how I pictured them and although I had more background from reading the book, my husband didn't feel as though he was missing anything when he watched the movie which is nice.

Nicole saw the movie, didn't read the book. enjoyed the movie, although I imagine it would have been a bit much to read the descriptive language around the violence to the women.

Elyse I kept hearing how graphic the movie was and knew what parts they were talking about and had my own concerns. While it was brutal, I was relieved how short the scenes were and that they were used (as in the book) to show how tough and smart Lisbeth is a person and not to glorify the violence of the acts.

I totally agree!! Loved the American movie, thought the filming was wonderful and the rest of the cast very good! Lisbeth was amazing in the Sweedish film and I felt she was not connecting with the viewer in the American film, so off putting and not as engaging. Made me not care about her as much as I did in the Swedish version. Great movies both! Just that edge in the role of Lisbeth, in my opinion!

Dee see, i dont' think she was supposed to be engaging, I felt like I wasn't supposed to understand her, connect with her
