Kelly (kellycoffee) | 12 comments I think part of it is definitely laziness, part of it educational failure, and part of it an over-reliance on editing features, such as spell check and grammar checks on Word.

Oh, yes, and definitely not letting someone else have a crack at their work. I have stories I've written that I've read dozens of times and will still catch stupid typos or errors on the dozenth read-through. People forget, especially new and over-excited authors, that you *know* what it's *supposed* to say, so you automatically read what's *supposed* to be there, and not always what was actually typed.

To that end, I thought I'd share this bit of amusement that any good reader or editor will appreciate: "The the impotence of proofreading" by Taylor Mali.

I have to drop this link off here too. It's absolutely hilarious.

I'm glad you like it. A lot of his stuff is good, and he's an excellent orator.

I adored your link as well. *Hysterical* I'm a little concerned, though, about how realistic the "author's" opinion and mindset may be. @.@

It's spot on isn't it, both the 'author's' mindset and the part about the publishing houses and agents. "I have a gun in my car. I'm going outside to get it now..." I love the dead-pan voices. I've posted both on my facebook page (keeps it from being sterile). :)
