Hello, is there a way of combining authors without removing one of them from the database. Leo Tolstoy, for example, is known in portuguese literature as Leon Tolstoi. How can I merge "Leon Tolstoi" into "Leo Tolstoy" without deleting it, so that brazilian users can still find him when they search the database? I've read the manual but found no instructions to do so.

There is no way, the books all need to have Leo Tolstoy as the primary author so they can be combined. You can place the Iportuguese version of his name in the second author position on the Those editions
Yes, it is the current method of sorting non-English authors. One way to link them is in the author descriptions, however. For example, under Leo Tolstoy's description where it says "also: Lew Tolstoj, Lew Tolstoi, Leon Tolstoi", it could be rewritten in HTML to link Leon Tolstoi to the Portuguese profile.
