RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I think, if I remain focused, I usually am able to finish what I need to finish at work in about twenty-five hours.

The rest is devoted to GR.

How long does it actually take you to do your work in the average week if you stay focused? Are there slow and busy weeks? Does the traditional eight hour a day work schedule still make sense? What are your thoughts on flexible scheduling and working at home? What about scenarios, e.g. customer service, when people have to be available during particular hours?

shellyindallas It depends on the job, but I always wanted a four day/10 hrs a day work week. Even if your job doesn't take you 40 hours, you may still need the 40 hr week paycheck. I just think we need more than two days off. Having a week day off makes doing shit like going to the bank and grocery store less of a dread. As it is, we're all out on the same damn day trying to get our shit done! Hello, crowds! I'm so glad this is my day off!

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Shelly, I LOVE "working at home" on Wednesdays. I usually go to Costco, etc. when the crowds are gone. I hate running errands on Saturdays.

Sandi (sandikal) I would love to work 4 days a week at 10 hours a day. Unfortunately, California labor laws say that if you work over 8 hours in a day, you get paid overtime, even if you don't work 40 hours in the week. (You also get overtime if you work over 40 hours in a week.) Many employers, especially in today's economy, don't want to pay overtime. Therefore, one's 40 hours have to be spread over 5 days.

Shelly,

So your not looking for a 3 day weekend, the day off just needs to be anyone of the traditional work days? I always thought of working 4 10's and having a 3 day weekend would be nice.

Gåry! (garyneill) When I had the opportunity to work 4x10s years ago, I jumped on it... having a T/W/Th off in addition tot he weekend rocked.

shellyindallas Yeah. I'd like to have the day off in the middle of the week b/c then you can split up your days on (on two, off one, on two or whatever), and also just to miss the crowds. Seems like so many people play hooky any given Friday that even if you were off that day you'd still have to deal w/ traffic and crowded movie theaters.

I should probably say that ideally I wouldn't work at all. I hate work. There's plenty of better ways to spend your time. But, until I win the lottery (which, I think I've bought a lotto ticket twice in my life), that won't be an option.
