Interesting twist on French history and the sorrowful tale of the lost king. I especially enjoyed the introducation of a French Sherlock Holmes and the eye opening glimpse into what life must have been like both before and after the French Revolution.

Its a nice story about the lost king. And like you, I realy enjoyed the figure of the French Inspector (or detective). The backround of the french atmosphere, before and after the French Revolution, is adding a lot to the novel. To see the change in people behavior during the BORBUNS rule and then dring the BONAPARTE dictature and then again to be ruled by a king and a queen is breath-taking.
It's been a long time since I studied French history, in particular the Revolution and the years right after. I didn't realize the Bourbons returned to the throne after the elimination of Bonaparte. Didn't know what happened to Louis XVI's children either. I thought the story was intriguing with a lot of 'what ifs' and 'could that have happened?' I agree, it was interesting to see how the behavior and attitude of the French people changed after the fall of Bonaparte, how they were willing to forget.
