Is there a Freudian slip?

Did Mark Haddon have an authorial Freudian slip on page 33? It seems out of character for an autistic child who has admitted that he can only picture what has really happened, and who has difficulty understanding what's going on in other people's heads, to conjecture, "I think people believe in heaven because they don't like the idea of dying, because they want to carry on living and they don't like the idea that other people will move into their house and put their things into the rubbish." (p. 33 of my edition)

I dont think the quote is as much about the character's thoughts about people in heaven as much as his concerns about order and intrusion.
