I just bought both the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet, trying to decide which one I prefer. Can't decide, may return both and wait for fall seasonal offerings. Maybe Apple will come out with a tablet reader, then I'll get that for sure.
I've had the Kindle Fire for about 8 months now and I like it pretty well. It's kind of a 'poor person's' iPad, in that I can use it as an eReader or also surf the web, check email, or run apps. I know a lot of iPad owners who use the Kindle app on their iPad and that seems to work well too.
Thanks for the responses everyone! I own a Nook Color and I have definitely enjoyed it. I agree about it being the poor person's iPad - I like being able to check e-mail and the surf the web on it. It's going to be interesting to see all the new devices and updates coming out this fall and winter.
For those of you who own e-readers and did not know, HMCPL offers eBooks available for checkout (free of course!) through our Digital Media Zone - dmz.hmcpl.org. All you need are your library card number and PIN to log in. We have over 4,000 eBooks and audiobooks available to download currently.

I have a Nook Simple Touch and a Kindle Fire. Since I've gotten the Kindle Fire I rarely use the Nook although I have some books on it that I definitely want to read at some point. I haven't explored the capabilities of the Kindle Fire and haven't used the Internet on it very much (I can't get used to typing in such small spaces) but I have tons of books on it (many free or extremely inexpensive classics) and I love the color display on it.

Hello Amy - yes, you do have to go in person to the library (any branch)and they can give it to you!

I've got a very cheap Sony Reader I bought almost three years ago, when ebooks weren't a big thing. I figured I should know how to use one one of these days! When I replace it -- and that day is coming soon -- it will likely be with a Nook SimpleTouch with Glowlight. I don't have a need for a tablet, and I want to keep all the books I've bought so far, so something that reads ePUB is a must!
I've had a Nook Color for over a year and a half, and a Simple Touch for a little over a year, and I love them, love them, love them! I can't give up my paper books, but you can't beat the convenience of the eReader. I also use my Nook app on my phone when I need to kill short periods of time. And I love the DMZ whenever a book's available there; I just wish more were!! (but I blame the publishers for that one, not the library)

Thanks, Annie. I will go get my PIN. Being able to check out ebooks for free from the library will be good thing!

I have a Kindle and use the Kindle app for iPad. I'm new to Huntsville, just got my library card and am very happy that there is a great selection of books available for download.
I too have a Kindle and use the Kindle app for iPad. I've checked out many Kindle books from the library and I love it!Did you know if you don't finish an Kindle e-book and it is returned, when you check out again, the book starts where you left off? How awesome is that?
I don't have a Kindle - but I get a lot of use out of my Kindle app, switching between my iPhone and iPad. But mostly my iPhone, since I have that with me everywhere.
I have an ancient Nook (I think it's hamster powered, very slow to download and crashes often) and a new Kindle Paper White. The Kindle is my preferred device. However, I like hardcover print books if there are lots of pictures like a biography or memories.
I have a Nook Simple Touch. I love it. I have no interest in getting another one anytime soon. I read so much, attempting to read on a backlit tablet (we have several of those as well) is just too difficult.
