Improving the group

I think it will be some time Emma, that's why I'm in bad form. Turns out I've been walking around with a fractured spine, a compression and some damaged discs. I've been complaining of back pain for 10 years and noone wanted to know til I got a new consultant who sent me for a scan.
4 weeks ago I had a pain block to tide me over til they ready to operate. That has driven the pain mad! They won't do anything for at least 2 mouths after the last procedure. All I can do is lie on the bed, sitting or standing is v. painful.
I'm like a bear with a sore head, and the drugs aren't helping.

Smiles. Glad it all worked out Susan. :-)

Margo I don't think there are any wrong books to nominate , I know there certain novels I wouldn't nominate even though I would read them because it wouldn't appeal to the majority of the members.
I know I can get questions off the net about most of the novels I would nominate but selfish me wouldn't want to spoil the novel for me .
I think I will for the next few months second a novel I would be interested in reading .I will hold off nominating and see how it goes. I do like the idea of themes.

No need to apologize Margo. You've been through a lot.
My son is reading The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett
He reads mostly scifi/fantasy. He introduced me to GR but does not belong to any of my groups.

New authors is a good category,
Females authors ,
Classics.
Translations.
Books made into films/TV
Also an interesting one may be first books of famous authors.
I saw a group do Female Protagonists by Male authors and then the opposite the next month.

I have a couple but I don't know if they're proper themes:
Unreliable Narrators
Time Travel
Low-Rated books on Goodreads
Books with a colour in the title

LOL Cphe, I never thought of that. Think Emma's right though, most themes associated with christmas as dodgy - even the weather!
Lorraine, I like your ideas. Unreliable narrators could be very interesting :-)

What I like about low rated books is that people are influenced by reviews. They might actually be good if people give them a chance.

I love it! Santa in shorts and sunglasses!

I dont like hot summers either. We get a lot humidity here which can be unbearabe.

I like all the themes that have been proposed, very eclectic, but agree that we should stay from festivals. This includes the themes proposed by Kevin in the challange thread.

Elderly Protagonist,
Child Protagonist,
Non-Human Protagonist (Animal, Inanimate, Alien...)
Food and Drink (fiction)
LGBTQ
Immigration

Do you support potentially movin..."
Sorry Emma. :-)

I totally agree with your points. I like aligning the quarterly. I like having one to read. I think we all have enough reading commitments. I was going to stop there but I really like the idea of the poetry. I am not familiar with Irish poetry or really poetry in general. I would like to know more than Robert Frost. :). I think this is an excellent idea without an overwhelming time commitment. Good job.

I like your suggestions Emma, but I have some additional thoughts about the quarterly poetry one. 3 months seems like an awfully long time to discuss just one poem. Maybe we could have a quarterly poet, and one of us co-moderators or the person who nominated the poet, could give a link to a starter poem from that poet, but then the thread could branch out from there with folks who were interested reading more than one poem by that poet. I'm also slightly worried that since not many people in the group are big Irish poetry people that we won't get a lot of nominations and voting.
