Jenny (jennyil) I loved studying languages and started taking college French courses while I was in High School. At the University of Minnesota I was able to get a BA in French and my Chemical Engineering degree because they did not require a minor in a third language to get a major or degree in a second one, other than English. As a result, I took most of my liberal arts and distribution credits in French and missed some of the literature survey classes that would have introduced me to more American or British literature.

Tracy Reilly (tracyreilly) | 158 comments Goodness. I have just discovered many things about Eliot that shows how foolish it is to make assumptions.

1) I assumed he disliked America and St. Louis (near home for me) due to his move to England--not true--said growing up by the Mississippi was one of the greatest influences on his life.

2) Assumed he wrote Prufrock when he was old, and wore his pant's legs rolled--he was 25.

3) Assumed he loved academics and academic atmospheres, due to his extensive reading--he did not. He favored London over Cambridge

4) Did not live long with Viv. Said his time in their marriage fueled his mood displayed in "The Wasteland".
