Do you think they'll make a movie for this book?

Irsyad Iskandar I just finished reading this book the other day and I couldn't stop thinking about afterwards (it was very well written). I understand that this book focuses on a very taboo subject in most cultures (incest). Do you think that anyone in Hollywood has the balls to make a big movie production for it? (big movie production meaning that it'll be shown in big theaters rather than in small film festivals) Let me know what you think.

chinami A book like this if made into a movie will receive protests from various communities calling it irreligious, inappropriate and scandalous and finally putting a ban of the film. Even the movie censor council will not give the license so easily.

Megan Parker The whole time I was reading this book I thought what a great movie it would make. The book is on a very taboo subject but the book was very thought provoking. Not a lot of books make me think about them afterwards, this one certainly did. I hope someone has the balls to make it!

Mazz Nixon I couldn't stop thinking about it for ages afterwards either, Tabitha wrote it very well. I personally think they should make a big movie out of it, however no I don't think anyone has the balls to do it.

Margaret Chatwin If they did make a movie, I think anyone who was open minded enough to watch it would see why it was made. The problem is, a lot of people would never get past the word “incest” to watch it, just as they will not read the book for the same reason. The book Forbidden is very powerful and, if filmed right, it could make a riveting movie.

Irsyad Iskandar I don't think they would put the word "incest" on the movie poster. But if they do make a movie about this book, then it'll no doubt be rate "R". I don't think there's any feasible way they could turn it into PG 13. (Unless they took a sledge hammer to the story)

J Ugh---hope not. Loved the book, but there is a difference between reading about it and watching it unravel before my eyes.

Milly I hope they don't too - I don't think it would work unless it was done by an extremely talent director. And I doubt very much Scorseses' got balls!

Cassy I think the story was beautiful...as long as it remains in a book...it would be horrible to actually see..ugh!

Sara No, I am almost sure they won't make a movie out of this book... The subjet is too delicate and particular... It would be really hard, if not impossible, to make it so that people wouldn't get grossed out or their feelings hurt somehow...
And, honestly, this book is Amazingly Beautiful, but it has to stay a book. Period. There are books you just cannot make into movies. And that's better this way. They only ruin books with movies.

If they do I want it to be directed by Terrance Malick. He has this very subtle way of filming intense things. He also directed the Thin Red Line and the Tree of Life. I could see the young actors from Skins doing a good job in this film. However, I wouldn't want it to be a big production (mainstream). I'd want it to have a more independent feel.

Licha Although I think the subject was handled tastefully (considering the subject), I think reading about it is one thing. Actually watching it play out would take it to the ick-factor.

Diana i would love them to make a movie that would be awesome

I agree.
And this subject is still taboo. Few people would go watching a movie involving incest.
And I also think it would be very difficult to make a movie out of a book like this without resulting disgusting and sick.

Kellan Kyle I hope not.

Valencia Cain The book as a film would be fantastic, but the thing is i dont think there would be any happy people out there. Many religions forbid having brothers and sisters in a relationship, its a great 'sin' as they call it. They might think that when their children or someone young would watch it, it might 'provoke' them to do the wrong things. It crosses boundaries for some people, and i doubt it would get a license anyway.
If it does and the film is made, im watching it :)
But...sadly, we cannot predict the future, lets just wait and see whats on in the box office :P

I can sorta see this being turned into a movie the writing was beautiful It was so good to the point where totally you forget that they are brother and sister. I mean they turned Flowers in the Attic to movie so why not?

Jools I think it would take a very brave and bold producer/director/actors to get this to the screen. It could be done really well, but it is still a "no go zone" for many people. I don't think Hollywood would take it on.
Saying that, iccky issues have been made into film before. Kevin Bacon took on the role of a reformed pedophile in The Woodsman. It was an amazing and well done film with a small budget. So who know.

Roan If they are planning to make a movie out of this book they need to add some more interesting events. Because the book is quite uneventful for me. The book has a lot of potential because of it's interesting/taboo theme which is incest. It'll be quite interesting to watch as a movie, with the right actors (I will surely cry my eyes out). But I doubt they'll make on out of this. :/

Dawny Didnt they do it with 'Flowers in the Attic'?? i would love to see this made into a movie

Yes they did, the movie was creepy I'm currently reading Flowers in The Attic. But I really would love if this was turned a movie. Not Hollywood big but maybe a t.v. movie style.

Melodie No movie please ! The story is too precious for that! I can't even picture someone playing Maya and Lochan (or even Kit, Willa and Tiffin) and couldn't stand seing any of the didney channel wanna be actor pretending to be one of Tabitha Suzuma's character... no way !!!
Beside there are some scenes in the book that would have to be cut off because they would be seen as too innapropritate or too mature for viewers...

Alexis I don't think that this is a big-style/Hollywood type of movie, not just because of the material but also because of the feel. I would prefer a Sundance style, with a decent director and unknown actors, something that you would have to search for to find. I would also enjoy seeing it done as The Perks of Being a Wallflower was done, with the author fully and completely behind the production, I think that's the only way it could be anything more than a flop.

Ysi Nooooo, i really hope noooo!!!! this book it's no for a movie. This book have too much feeling, too strong, so painfull i love it so much and i won't support if the autor want to be a movie!!

message 25: by Astrid (new)

Astrid I HOPE THEY DO!!!
This book is amazing, and I think that a movie would be a hit.
I agree that you can't just make a movie about two brothers....form the same family.....that love each other.
But in my opinion, it's a very romantic book, it shows how someone would do ANYTHING for love and that we can't control love. We love who we love, no matter who the person is. So, I think that that should TOTALLY make a movie. I would go see that movie, and support the author, because I've read tons of romance books, and no one has ever come up with the idea of romance between brothers.
I totally support the author and the book.

Maria It would make a great movie...
...if people weren't so sensitive and uptight about the subject matter.

Caryl Ycasas It's gonna be awesome if you love the book. but of course, this kind of topic will also receive many criticisms. and if you make a movie, you have to think of profit too so public acceptance is a big factor to consider

They did it with Flowers in the attic, but the movie was greatly glossed over. The subject of incest wasn't really touched on. Or even shown for that matter. They toned the movie down a lot from the book. It was only stated not shown in the movie that the Mother & Father were related. And the subject of the older brother & sister, wasn't even touched on in the movie at all. The book, yes, but not the movie.

I personally would not want this book to be made into a movie. Strictly cos 1. it would be extremely hard to make, cos of the subject matter. Especially if they wanted to stay true to the book. 2. Too many issues would ensue to making it into a film. And then, 3. if it were ever made, u would have the other added issues of the public, their views & the religious groups getting involved as well. It was a hard book to read. Beautifully written & heartbreaking. But I think it's better left in a book.

Sarah It would be a nice movie... I can say that and it was a very beautiful book but people could be a little sensitive over this subject. I admit, I am too... I can read but I won't be too sure if I could watch it :/ It'll be nice to have this as a movie tho! (:

Seeshel kettler this was aa great book, broke my heart still.

Evelyn Yo quisiera que realicen una pelicula pero no lo haran :/
Tabitha tiene mas libros muy buenos que ojala si se adapten

Micol It was such a good book. Makes me cry everytime I read it but I don't think they should make it into a movie. They'll destroy it, like with so many others. Stick with the book it's heartbreaking.

They actually remade this movie recently; it aired on the lifetime network. Did you see it? I thought they were pretty faithful to the book, except for the removal of the rape scene - which always seemed out of place, especially given the subsequent novels).

 ~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ No I didn't see the remake

Eva I managed to read the book but I don't think even if they did make a movie I would be able to watch it. I also think that they will stuff up the book with the movie.

Sami777 I really do not like rather than the subject, it is because I have a picture in my mind of the characters, scenes and landscapes laas and want to keep as is. And with all the censorship will most likely come back history a total nonsense.

Georgia Collingham I am currently reading Forbidden and I have fallen in love with Lochan and Maya's forbidden relationship. The way Tabitha describes what is going on in each of their heads is extremely powerful and it leaves you wondering. I am hoping to be an actress when I am older and I would love to be part of this if there is ever to be a film about it. I would love to explore Maya's character more and really get in touch with her character. I would love to be Maya if this was a film because the writing is such a beautiful work of art and to feel emotions that I have never felt before as a different person would be amazing.

Georgia Collingham Currently in floods of tears about the ending
