I would say I am both a reader and an writer. Reading helps me see what I would like to make others feel when I write. So I read to see if I feel what the author is writing about. I think you have to make a person feel it and be able to imagin it to be a good writer.

That's good advice, Tiawni. But, then again, you can't be a writer without having to read what you write, can you? :) (NOTE: I'm not being sarcastic, incase you think i am. My normal tone is thought to be sarcastic sometimes)

NO but it is hard for one not to be to hard on oneself when it comes to their own writing. So I try not to read my own writing to a point that it will never be right. So for me I think it is best to have someone that can be straight with you about your writing.

True. But all writing is unique, even with mistakes. :)
And you're right-it's good to have someone who can be straight-forward on your own stories.

See this is a trick question because when I am reading I am writing. Please allow me to expound here: One has to be an avid reader in order to write effectively. I don't think anyone would argue that. Not only do I admire the style of the person I am reading though but, I will usually think of how I would do something similar or rework the passage. There are only two writers in the world that I patently cannot do this with, Dennis Johnson and Alice Walker; okay, maybe Langston Hughs and James Joyce too :)

Well folk-lore (depending on what type it is) speaks of all those things and much, much more. I was just wondering because I like folk-lore myself, though it seems I have trouble finding any body else who does as well.

Why Goats Smell Bad and Other Stories from Benin That's a good read. Informative, but very interesting. It's basically just a story book, but the stories are real folk-lore. And some of the tales are quite humorous.
