Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson #2) - Start Date January 17th

10. Rey'aziel, the beautiful one...an apt description, no? Do you think knowing his true name will give Charley some extra power over him? There is power in a name, as we've all heard in many stories through the years.
He definitely seemed upset that she knew his real name, I think it will be significant. He also made a comment that only one person could summon him. I think it's her, by using his real name. I also think she may be the only person who can destroy him, and knowing his real name would help her with that too.
11. Why did Rocket Man try to stuff Charley back out the window, and then abruptly change his mind?
That one stumped me. First thought was that he was trying to protect her, it was dangerous for her to be there. Then suddenly it's ok, so the danger is gone. Would he consider Reyes the danger? Or was it something else? I don't know. Or maybe his sister was in the basement and he didn't want Charley to see his sister?
12. Only one person alive can summon me. I am wondering, like Charley, if she is that person. What are the implications of that? And now that she has his name, could it be an even more powerful thing? What are these extra powers he keeps telling her she has? I am feeling like we will see a little bit of evolution from her in this book.
I think she has the power to destroy demons and even Reyes himself. I think she has a lot of power that she doesn't realize but will have to discover to survive this book. I think she is the one who can summon him.
13. Reyes is trying awful hard to convince Charley that he's cruel and evil. Do you think this is just so she will stop searching for his body? We know he will turn into the ultimate weapon if he dies, according to Rocket's sister, but does Reyes know this? He says it's a lie, but I wonder.
Since I didn't read book 1 I'm still getting to know Reyes, but I'm guessing he spent some time in book 1 convincing her that he was good. Definitely seems like he's trying to do the opposite now, show her his darker more dangerous side. She doesn't seem to think he's capable of being bad, but come on he was a general in hell! Son of Satan and all that. I believe that he doesn't know what will happen if his body dies, but also is confident that he can handle whatever it is. I think Charley is trying to find his body so that she can protect it and not risk losing him in case his body dying pulls him back to Hell. I believe that he doesn't want her finding his body because it's a trap and he doesn't want her in danger. So I think he is trying to convince her that he is bad/dangerous so maybe she'll stop trying to find him, give up on him? Not that I think it'll work.
14. So, it seems the whole thing with Mimi goes back to her high school. What in the world could it be that is getting people murdered?
I think Mimi and her friends accidentally killed a homeless guy... Dead trunk guy. That's why he's hanging around all of a sudden. Maybe one of the group involved is going to run for president or something and needs everyone who knows the deep dark secret to be gone. Still not sure who dead trunk guy keeps showing up in the shower?
15. Hmm...Cookie and Garrett?? I could get behind that. Cookie needs a good man. Although, he seems to have a small thing for Charley. Or was he just trying to provoke her/Reyes?
I think he flirts with Charley, but in a I-know-this-will-never-happen kind of way. I don't think it's a real "thing" that would be a problem if something started up between him and Cookie.
16. What do you think of the working theory about Dead Trunk Guy? I somehow think he is attached to Cookie in some way. Maybe not, but why was he sitting in her lap earlier?
I think dead trunk guy is connected to Mimi somehow, not sure how far back Mimi and Cookie's friendship goes. No idea why he was sitting in her lap. I just took that as a funny moment, not necessarily a crucial one.
17. If you are the grim reaper, please contact me immediately. Interesting! Do you think Charley will contact them?
Who couldn't? I definitely think Charley will contact her out of pure curiosity.

@ Gisela #13. I think Charley is afraid that if his corporeal body dies his entity will be pulled back into Hell and he might not be able to escape again. Then she would lose him, and she's also afraid of what would happen to him there, torture, punishment, etc.
#16. I agree there must be a connection to dead guy in Cookie's car, and dead car salesman

10. Rey'aziel, the beautiful one... an apt description, no? Do you think knowing his true name will give Charley some extra power over him? There is power in a name, as we've all heard in many stories through the years.
It is appropriate. Definitely; know his moniker will give her some sort of supremacy.
11. Why did Rocket Man try to stuff Charley back out the window, and then abruptly change his mind?
I was thinking Reyes was nearby; don’t know why he changed his mind.
12. Only one person alive can summon me. I am wondering, like Charley, if she is that person. What are the implications of that? And now that she has his name, could it be an even more powerful thing? What are these extra powers he keeps telling her she has? I am feeling like we will see a little bit of evolution from her in this book.
I think it is Charley, too. Yes, I think we’ll see her advancement. There has got to be more to this “grim reaper” thing, right?
13. Reyes is trying awful hard to convince Charley that he's cruel and evil. Do you think this is just so she will stop searching for his body? We know he will turn into the ultimate weapon if he dies, according to Rocket's sister, but does Reyes know this? He says it's a lie, but I wonder.
Hmmm. Good question. I think Rocket might know this to be true.
14. So, it seems the whole thing with Mimi goes back to her high school. What in the world could it be that is getting people murdered?
Don’t know. Probably something that happened then.
15. Hmm...Cookie and Garrett?? I could get behind that. Cookie needs a good man. Although, he seems to have a small thing for Charley. Or was he just trying to provoke her/Reyes?
I thought he had a big thing for Charley? But, I like him and Cookie together. Could be he was trying to provoke.
16. What do you think of the working theory about Dead Trunk Guy? I somehow think he is attached to Cookie in some way. Maybe not, but why was he sitting in her lap earlier?
It sounds plausible to me, I guess. Dead Trunk Guy would have to have been alive (if she was a lone) or she would have never been able to lift him into the trunk, right? Then again, maybe someone was with her. As far as the lap? Beats the poo out of me. Maybe she's the mothering type and he was seeking comfort?
17. If you are the grim reaper, please contact me immediately. Interesting! Do you think Charley will contact them?
Yes. She’s too curious by half.

#11 – Mind Meld! I was thinking Reyes was around; didn’t think of the demons.
#13 – Now that’s and interesting theory.
#14 – Where is cop Owen Vauhn?

#10 – I’m thinking yes. Will she though? Other than keeping him from going back to his tormentors to protect her…
#11 – I hadn’t know that about him changing his mind, but you’re right.
#12 – Totally agree with you.
#13 – Good question.
#15 – Probably.
#16 – Good hunch.

#11 – I think Rocket would consider Reyes a danger; he doesn’t like him.
#12 – Reyes actions in book #1 were mostly good. He had some moments, but I chalk them up to him trying to scare her off. Mostly he is protective of Charley – and others, for that matter. Yes, his resume is far from perfect. I think you’re on target with everything about his reasonings.

As for your questions about Reyes, he really wasn't around much in the first book, but you sure knew when he was there. I don't think this one is as steamy as the first in regards to Reyes and Charley. I found Reyes more swoon worthy in this one cause you find out more about him later on.

18. Do you think Reyes absence during the attack at her Dad's bar was intentional? Was he purposely allowing her to handle it herself so that she could learn what she was capable of, or did you think something had happened to him?
19. Charley's dad is definitely figuring some things out about her. What do you think tipped him off? Is it just what he's witnessed recently, or do you think someone told him something to cause him to look closer at her actions?
20. Everyone seemed pretty ticked about Uncle Bob putting a tail on Charley. Now that you know that he did it mainly because someone had threatened her dad and herself do you feel differently about it?
21. Did you find it odd the Mr. Kirsch made a point to ask Charley and Cookie to bring the case file when they came to talk with him? Did you suspect him?
22. How much do you think Mistress Marigold really knows?
23. Were you surprised by the resolution of the Dead Trunk guy story line?
24. The fake FBI agents are finally back, was wondering when they would show up again. Any theories on who they are working for? And do you think we'll ever see cop Owen Vaughn again?
25. What's up with Garrett working with Mr. Chao and Frank Smith? I thought they were the bad guys? Who do you think they are working for? Obviously not the same person as the fake FBI agents.

18. Do you think Reyes absence during the attack at her Dad's bar was intentional? Was he purposely allowing her to handle it herself so that she could learn what she was capable of, or did you think something had happened to him? I was very lost about that until it was explained later. I couldn't understand why he'd leave her alone.
19. Charley's dad is definitely figuring some things out about her. What do you think tipped him off? Is it just what he's witnessed recently, or do you think someone told him something to cause him to look closer at her actions?
There was a lot that went on in the last book that I think woke him up a little bit. He's always known she was different, but now he's acknowledging and wondering just what she might be.
20. Everyone seemed pretty ticked about Uncle Bob putting a tail on Charley. Now that you know that he did it mainly because someone had threatened her dad and herself do you feel differently about it?
Nope, they should've told her! Hasn't she demonstrated she can take care of herself? And if she'd known she could've been prepared with or without the tail.
21. Did you find it odd the Mr. Kirsch made a point to ask Charley and Cookie to bring the case file when they came to talk with him? Did you suspect him?
I did suspect him at first.
22. How much do you think Mistress Marigold really knows?
I don't know, but I am really intrigued by that little plot point. I think it's going to factor heavily into the next book.
23. Were you surprised by the resolution of the Dead Trunk guy story line?
You were almost all the way right with your theory, Tracey. I was surprised about Dead Trunk Guy's profession, though. And the way he passed through Charley was pretty sweet.
24. The fake FBI agents are finally back, was wondering when they would show up again. Any theories on who they are working for? And do you think we'll ever see cop Owen Vaughn again?
I know the answer to these questions since I just finished the book, so I will stay mum LOL!
25. What's up with Garrett working with Mr. Chao and Frank Smith? I thought they were the bad guys? Who do you think they are working for? Obviously not the same person as the fake FBI agents.
I was a little confused by that as well. I'm finsihed with the book, and I'm still a little perplexed. Maybe I missed something?

18. Do you think Reyes absence during the attack at her Dad's bar was intentional? Was he purposely allowing her to handle it herself so that she could learn what she was capable of, or did you think something had happened to him? I wondered where he was. I figured he was mad at her but that he would've shown up when her life was in danger....
19. Charley's dad is definitely figuring some things out about her. What do you think tipped him off? Is it just what he's witnessed recently, or do you think someone told him something to cause him to look closer at her actions? I find it odd that he's just now figuring out "how" different she is. I mean, did he not pay ANY attention to her through the years? She helped him solve cases and he didn't realize?
20. Everyone seemed pretty ticked about Uncle Bob putting a tail on Charley. Now that you know that he did it mainly because someone had threatened her dad and herself do you feel differently about it? yes, I feel differently now that I know why he did it. I'm ticked at Charley's dad for not telling her what was going on. And more ticked at him in the next set of chapters LOL
21. Did you find it odd the Mr. Kirsch made a point to ask Charley and Cookie to bring the case file when they came to talk with him? Did you suspect him? I didn't suspect him, I suspected Kyle.
22. How much do you think Mistress Marigold really knows? I don't know. I hope we get to see more of that.
23. Were you surprised by the resolution of the Dead Trunk guy story line? yes I was. This is one of those points where I wondered exactly why it was included in the book at all. It really had nothing to do with the main story.
24. The fake FBI agents are finally back, was wondering when they would show up again. Any theories on who they are working for? And do you think we'll ever see cop Owen Vaughn again? At this point, I wondered if we'd see Owen again and I didn't have a clue who the fake FBI guys were working for.
25. What's up with Garrett working with Mr. Chao and Frank Smith? I thought they were the bad guys? Who do you think they are working for? Obviously not the same person as the fake FBI agents. Now this is the real question...who are these guys and who do they work for. Like Megan, I'm wondering if I missed something cause I still don't know anything about these guys.

#18. Even mad I didnt' think Reyes would just hang her out to dry. But also didn't think he was dead. So I fiugred he must be trying to give her a chance to figure out her own strengths during both the confrontation with the three men in her apartment and even the attack at the bar. But I'm with Susan that I was surprised when he didn't show up on his own once the gunfire started at the old motel and that he had to be summoned. I guess she explained that away with being drugged and not freaking out, but still. At least she knows she can summon him now :)
#21. I totally suspected him too!Well I suspected Kyle and figured his dad covered it up. Was expecting a plot twist where he attacked them and tried to destroy the file.
#23. His passing was sweet, but his showers with her were kinda creepy since he actually was coherent at that point! And why wouldn't he just talk to her? I totally didn't get why he pretended to be a zombie.
@ Susan
#19 I agree that it's odd that he's just now weirded out by his daughter when he's known she's been different her whole life.
#23 I was disappointed that his subplot was completely unrelated and irrelevant too!

10. Rey'aziel, the beautiful one...an apt description, no? Do you think knowing his true name will give Charley some extra power over him? There is power in a name, as we've all heard in many stories through the years. Yes, I think this will give Charley some hold over him... though I’m also wondering who answered the summons when Pari did the séance suing his name?
11. Why did Rocket Man try to stuff Charley back out the window, and then abruptly change his mind? Ummm, because he’s insane... I think.
12. Only one person alive can summon me. I am wondering, like Charley, if she is that person. What are the implications of that? And now that she has his name, could it be an even more powerful thing? What are these extra powers he keeps telling her she has? I am feeling like we will see a little bit of evolution from her in this book. I agree on the evolution. She’s due for a bit more kickass-ness.
13. Reyes is trying awful hard to convince Charley that he's cruel and evil. Do you think this is just so she will stop searching for his body? We know he will turn into the ultimate weapon if he dies, according to Rocket's sister, but does Reyes know this? He says it's a lie, but I wonder. I’m a bit confused by his attitude. He tries to make her think he’s cruel one minute and then seems surprised she thinks him capable of hurting an innocent. It’ll be interesting to see how the author is able to keep him as a bad boy from hell and still give him redeeming qualities that aren’t just tied to Charley but to society as a whole.
14. So, it seems the whole thing with Mimi goes back to her high school. What in the world could it be that is getting people murdered? Made me think of the whole “I know what you did last Summer” movie (I seem to be linking to movies a bit, don’t I, sorry!) and maybe there was a murder that was covered up and now someone is out for revenge.
15. Hmm...Cookie and Garrett?? I could get behind that. Cookie needs a good man. Although, he seems to have a small thing for Charley. Or was he just trying to provoke her/Reyes? I think Charley is a hot chick and he’s interested and curirous... but if circumstances could get him looking in Cookie’s direction, I think that could work too. It’d be great if Cookie could have some happiness too.
16. What do you think of the working theory about Dead Trunk Guy? I somehow think he is attached to Cookie in some way. Maybe not, but why was he sitting in her lap earlier? Hmmm, I thought he was attached to the Car Salesman.
17. If you are the grim reaper, please contact me immediately. Interesting! Do you think Charley will contact them? Yes she has to! What a carrot to dangle in front of the reader!
CaroB’s Qs for Chapters 8 – 11
18. Who did the guys work for that Charley has waiting in her apartment at the beginning of Chapter 8?
19. Your take on Mimi’s parents information: What do you think would turn a grade-A student to refuse to go to school, act so distraught and change schools?
20. Could it really be that cut-and-dried as the Senator suspect?
21. What do you think of the Reyes fanclubs and what they’ve revealed about Reyes?
22. What’s going on with her dad? Why the change in attitude from him?

18. Who did the guys work for that Charley has waiting in her apartment at the beginning of Chapter 8?
At first I thought they must work for the crooked congressman who's killing everybody. But now that I'm almost at the end I'm not so sure.
19. Your take on Mimi’s parents information: What do you think would turn a grade-A student to refuse to go to school, act so distraught and change schools?
This fit with the theory that she had been involved in a murder. The whole I Know What You Did Last Summer thing
20. Could it really be that cut-and-dried as the Senator suspect?
Honestly at first I thought so, but now I'm leaning toward (view spoiler)
21. What do you think of the Reyes fanclubs and what they’ve revealed about Reyes?
I found the fan club bit hilarious! I loved Charley's jealous reaction to crazy fan club lady, contemplating burying her under her azaelas (sp?)
22. What’s going on with her dad? Why the change in attitude from him?
I think it's weird that he's suddenly freaked out by his daughter who's he's always known could talk to ghosts. It seems odd to me.
