It's less than $6 @ Harlequin.
It's less than $6 @ Harlequin.

Oooooh!!! I didn't know it was a Harlequin! I didn't notice that and I thought that the other books (later pubbed) were HQN. Bought!
Loosheesh wrote: "I want to try the Jennifer Crusies you liked (Bet Me and Agnes and the Hitman) but the $7.99 each is holding me back. I keep a running total of what I've spent on ebooks and right now it ain't pretty, believe me. The library only has them in audio, and shipping costs would defeat the savings of the used book option. Boo! "hmmmmm... I bought them used hardback from Amazon but I try to only buy from booksellers that ship via Amazon so I don't pay the shipping. I bought Bet Me (FAVE!!) for $3.83 w/free s&h and I got Agnes and the Hitman for $3.16 w/free s&h.
Well, at least I did SOMETHING right today.
:D
:D
*bashful face*I bought Talk Me Down, Start Me Up and Unveiled by Courtney Milan.
But I used the $5 off coupon and only spent $13...thanks GOD my husband can't see this, lol!

LOL! Well, I can't be blamed for the other two.

Just wait 'till you get hooked up to mint.com. The party is over then. :)
Not gonna happen! lol!OMG, it would be like living with a crazy person! He's an accountant/tax pro and he already drives me crazy with the joint account...

I actually broke up with a guy because of his ideas about joint checking. I will do it only one way - a joint household account for regular expenses that both contribute to, and then each person has their own account(s). He was all about having just one account. Even though we were not even close to being at the point of considering such things, he wanted to "convert" me to his financial thinking. I converted to being single instead.

A lot of diversion is enacted at these times ;-)I swear my husband would probably have an apoplectic fit if he knew how much I've spent just on ebooks since getting a Kindle. I even shudder when I see the total ... then I blithely move on, lol! "
I put one of those coloums in Calibre to notate how much I was spending... Oh man! I had to stop because I was freaking myself out, lol. I just stopped counting at this point. Shoot, I've been pretty good this year and I still don't want to know.
And then add the idea of hubby finding out? I have to divert his attention when he asks me how many books I've bought, too.

I don't think I like him, either.
That's the way we do it, too. Each of us has individual accounts and then we have a joint account for savings, household expenses, keeping hubby busy (:-D), joint activities and dinners out.
Updated tickers and reviewed another book.I was SOOOOO disappointed in Talk Me Down. I can understand how so many other people like it - if you ignore the relationship implications I'm sure it would be a better book...but I couldn't. :-(
Loosheesh wrote: "Oh boo! I got it from the library, intending to read it also :("You might like it! Almost everyone else has loved it...most are calling it funny, light, sexy and a joy to read. I just hated Molly.
I have a question: In my copy of Agnes and the hitman, the last 5-10 pages were out of order. Have anyone else experienced that?

Don't feel bad! I was going to buy it, anyway.
I'm excited you found some copies of Bet Me and Agnes! I heart those books. ;-)
Mikaela wrote: "I have a question: In my copy of Agnes and the hitman, the last 5-10 pages were out of order. Have anyone else experienced that?"I have a HB DTB version of Agnes and the Hitman. The last pages are fine.
MrsJoseph wrote: "Mikaela wrote: "I have a question: In my copy of Agnes and the hitman, the last 5-10 pages were out of order. Have anyone else experienced that?"I have a HB DTB version of Agnes and the Hitman...."
All right. So it is either e-book related, or Kobo related. It did baffle me, since I have never heard of pages being in the wrong order before. Oh well. I fixed it by editing it in Sigil.
Loosheesh wrote: "You might be interested in this one - On Writing Romance: How to Craft a Novel That Sells is free right now at Amazon."Yaay! Score! Thank you!
Updated tickers. Reviewed a few things. I'm finally not getting the stupid GR message telling me that I'm behind! Thank goodness cause that thing drove me crazy.
Actually I think I'm doing really well at the moment. I only plugged in 60 books for my GR challenge and I'm at 10 books so far.If I continue at that rate I'm heading for 80 books.
Of course I won't get that far because some of these books were novellas and I'm going to try to knock over some bigger books this year. I've got at least one thousand (almost) page book I want to get through at some stage and there's a few over 500 pages that are in my sights.
Good thing my primary goal for this year is based on pages read. :)
By the way MrsJ, I would comment more on your updates but unfortunately for me, most of what you read is so far away from what I read that I really don't have anything to say.I know we have some taste-intersection in other areas though (YA in particular), but I just don't think I've much to contribute to your current conquests. :(

It's ok. I've been on a romance kick lately because I'm so moody. I don't want to ruin a good book with my piss poor attitude. I have an self-pubbed fantasy I'm trying to get myself in the mood for. I'll let you know how it goes when I start it.
Updated tickers and the like.ALso, Caleb, I've been reading a self-pub military fantasy named The Troll Hunter. It's pretty good. Different but good. It sorta reminds me of The Black Company.
Caleb wrote: "Yeah I noticed you reading that. Finally something for me to comment on - not that I've read it."I think you might like it - if you're into that sort of [military] thing. The writing is really good - meaning that I don't really notice it, which works the best for me - and the story is good, too.
The problem for me is the blurb. IT doesn't really tell you that you'll spend the first HALF of the book in the military. Cause that's where I am. Now, I don't have a problem with military fiction - one of my favorite books is Starship Troopers (which I LOVED LOVED LOVED) but I wasn't expecting it.
BlueTyson (I think it was...) said it was like David Eddings. Who (if you've ever read him) has a pretty standard formula that he follows. He's almost rabid about it. His books always:
-involve a magic object...often thought to be sacred
-involve a major quest - often across the entire known (and sometimes unknown) lands - often involving specifically chosen people - that were chosen by a prophesy or a god or something like that.
-Involve God(s) taking direct action and/or giving both information, warnings and advice
-Has a "wise sage" who travels with the group. This person is usually a magic wielder, has lived hundreds - thousands of years, and already has a reputation with the bad guys.
-Has magic. Lots of magic.
-Has a military campaign to stop the bad guys, being led by the original small group that travels across the globe.
I've read at least 21-22 of Eddings books...and all of them have this happening.
And this book has none of the things mentioned above. At least, not yet. And I'm 1/2 way through.
But not to put this book down - I just don't know if he's reaching his target audience.
Always wanted to read Starship Troopers. Due to geographic restrictions, I can't buy much from Heinlein in Australia. However, now someone's shown me the very simple trick of getting around B&N restrictions, I have a whole new world to explore. I can see myself getting both Starship Troopers and Stranger in a Strange Land.
I already own one in pbook, but pbook is so yesterday!

Read it! Starship Troopers is great! IMPO. Of course, it is very much a propaganda novel for the idea of military...but it's a damn good one.
updated tickers! I'm finding my weekends more productive now...
...but we'll see how long this lasts. Cause while I was enjoying reading - I managed to neglect housework again this weekend.
I did get the house vacuumed and dusted and the kitchen/bathrooms cleaned but did no mopping and no laundry (or folding).
Just doing a bit of pushing for the book pusher. One for you Mrs J.Only Ever Always
If you like it, feel free to thank me. If you don't - we never had this conversation. :)
Caleb wrote: "Just doing a bit of pushing for the book pusher. One for you Mrs J.Only Ever Always

lol! :-D
Looks like we might have to pass the torch to you, lol. ;-)
Loosheesh wrote: "Just read your review of Just One of the Guys and came over to give you a virtual *hug*. I'd also be pretty pissed if I thought I was getting a romance and got this instead - not co..."Thanks. I really really mean that. I was so disappointed! It was pretty bad. The ending even had the father give the mother away on her wedding day. !!!! And there, at the end of the book, at the end of the wedding - there is where the hero declares his love and the "hea" happens. Now cut to epilogue. It's totally not a romance book. :-(
Finally updated tickers.I'm starting to think that I don't really care for contemporary romances. At least ones not written by Jennifer Crusie. Cause I feel awash in a sea of Meh contemps.
I'm struggling with Instant Attraction...looks like yet another that won't work for me. I'm thinking to deep 6 this for a while and move on to some historicals or something.
Caleb wrote: "You could always have a break and read something good instead? :PJust kidding."
lol! :-P
I put Instant (non) attraction aside and started reading Heaven and Earth. While there are parts that don't sit well with me...I'm enjoying it pretty well. It has witches and magic in it though...that may be helping.
Loosheesh wrote: "When I feel like this, I drop everything and read one or two Harlequin Presents or some other category romance; this helps me get out of a 'meh' funk. My expectations are way low for category roman..."Lol. You could write a book on managing one's reading expectations.
Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Loosheesh wrote: "When I feel like this, I drop everything and read one or two Harlequin Presents or some other category romance; this helps me get out of a 'meh' funk. My expectations are way low ..."Reading for Dummies?

Like yours better.

Congrats on the free book! And sorry about the Agency6 conflict. :-( But isn't that a HQN (aka Harlequin) book? I'm confused - I thought you were okay with Harlequin?
