Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Hi, folks. As some of you have noticed, I have been less active lately and have stopped maintaining the "Librarians volunteering language skills" list, although librarians are continuing to volunteer their language services in the original volunteer thread.

Has this compiled list of language-assisting librarians been a useful resource? I don't know if people are contacting librarians from that list with questions or just posting general requests for language help in this group. And if this list has been useful, is there anyone who'd like to volunteer to continue compiling it?

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments I have to say I normally just start a topic and ask for help that way but if others find it useful and want to keep it I am happy to take on the maintenance of the list.

Lets see what others think!

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments It sounds like the volunteer thread by itself is a sufficient resource, so we can let the compiled list go. Thanks for offering, Paula!

I think it would be more useful if there were different lists by language. For instance, someone looking for a portuguese speaker would just open the thread "Librarians volunteering skills: Portuguese" and send messages to a few members asking for help. Same thing with someone looking for a speaker of Arabic, German, Japanese or any other language.
People wouldn't have to look too much to find a speaker of the desired language or with the desired skill (native, fluent, etc)

There are an awful lot of different languages represented for that.

In any case, unless someone volunteers to maintain a new list, there won't be any updates, as per Cait's first post.
