What Are You Reading Right Now? ( Hwæt béon ðu bocrædung?)
Yayyyyyyyy!!!!! :D *does happy dance and throws in a cartwheel*That's made my day. :D
September or October....Dawn and I will be reading the new Oathsworn book Crowbone together. I think fellow member Justin will be too. So if you're caught up, Bryn...........Crowbone in October.....;)
has anyone read The House OF velvet and glass by Katherine Howe? I'm nearing the end. it's a historical fiction novel spanning two generations. Shanghai 1888, North Atlantic Ocean 1912 (titanic) and Boston 1915. while the author goes a little overboard with details and small nuances, it is quite an engaging read.
Hi Heather,No I haven't read that one...but it sounds familiar and I am wondering if it was or is being made into a movie? Or a play????? Could be completely wrong though.
Here's the link.
The House of Velvet and Glass
Heather just a little note, I don't mean to trouble you, but when mentioning a book or author would you mind using the add book/author feature to add a link in your post. It help other members find the book or author. :)
And don't worry. You don't have to leave the bookcover link like I just did. Only a link to title is fine to help people see which book you mean.
Here's the link how to do it in case you don't know.

I had a look and it is only a very new book so i was wrong about the movie or play. Must be something about the title that jogged a memory.
You could be thinking of The House of Sand and Fog.Based on a book by Andre Dubus III. It was made into a movie starring Jennifer Connelly in 2003.
Unfortunately it isn't in the register so I can't reference it.

I'll see if I can catch up with you for October (Terri seems a bit eager?) but you're way ahead of me here.

Speaking of Robyn Young, I just started the third book of her trilogy on the Templars
liked the first two, we'll see about this one
Still Life With MurderMy last few books have not fit the A&M profile. But sometimes I have to get down, get dirty and party. So Ms Ryan offered the perfect book for my specific needs. 8-1-12. As an aside, tomorrow is our wedding anniversary--37 years. Husband had 'plans' for the evening until my mother, who lives an hour's drive away, called to say she and the twinplets are coming to spend the night tomorrow night. How would any of you sidestepped the visit without saying, "No, come Friday. Tom and I plan to get down, get dirty and party on Thursday."
What am I reading you all ask??? :D (I know..nobody did)I am starting the Ancient themed Group read tonight.
The Virtues of War: A Novel of Alexander the Great
Read the first paragraph when I walked past the book this morning. Looks like classically lovely Steven Pressfield writing. Looking forward to getting into it.
I've had Christian Cameron's first book Tyrant for about two years (I know, I know, but I do get to them eventually). I've been hearing great things about his writing for some time now, and I read it about ten days ago while on holiday. Well. What can I say? I was blown away by his writing. Absolutely riveting and absorbing. 10/10.
We read Killer of Men by Cameron as last months group read.I found his writing perfectly okay, but I gave the book 1 star because the narration style was just plain bizarre and disorienting. I couldn't finish it.
As a result, I haven't written off Tyrant. If it is written in a different style to Killer of Men then it shouldn't be a problem.
Finally back from Cabo San Lucas, where I was forced to drink endless pints of dark and light adult beverages whilst suffering through in repose on a beach!! I actually did have a little reading time but am way behind on our books. Got
but after reading Terri's review, I'm going to pigeonhole that one for awhile. Picked up
so will be starting that one tomorrow. Finishing up
and really have enjoyed it.
I'm so sorry to hear that you had to endure such difficult situations, Bobby!! So glad you are back safe and sound. ;)The last book you mentioned looks really interesting. I'll be interested to hear what you think when finished. I see it has generally a low rating, but that doesn't always mean it is terrible.
As you know, I am most pleased about that book you are starting tomorrow. And like Tasha, I am sorry to hear that you were being forced to imbibe large quantities of alcohol on a beach, Bobby. What a terrible situation.
Glad to have you back safe and sound though. :)
finished Requim - not bad, entertaining, good conspiracy novelstarting Harry Sidebottom's forth novel in his Ballisata series
I'm reading a very good book right now. Going to be 5 star I think. Definitely one the best veteran's pilot memoirs I have read to date.
To The Limit: An Air Cav Huey Pilot in Vietnam

Being part of Good Reads is becoming a serious problem. I keep finding all these great books that poeple have reccomended and my list of books that I want to read just keeps getting longer and longer, but there is no way I'm ever going to get the time to read them all, May have to give up work altogether. The only problem with that, apart from not being able to feed, house and cloth the family, is that I'd have no money to buy books!

I know that feeling, Terri, all too well. My to-read list grows daily.
Well, if you have a few spare pennies (or can get to a library) I can't recommend To The Limit enough. :-) Excellent book! Simply excellent.
I am losing control of my tbr. At least I have a very good library though. Saves me a lot of money! :-)

One of the better ones on Viet Nam.
On a personal note, my father always said that one of the best things that ever happened to him in his military career was washing out of flight school in '62 - he only had to do one tour in Viet Nam instead of 3.
I can see how he is happy about that. 1 tour is by far and away better than 3. *gulp*I feel, as far as Huey pilot memoirs go, To The Limit: An Air Cav Huey Pilot in Vietnam is miles better than Chickenhawk. But then that could be because Johnson is a million times more likeable than Mason.

Mine too. Like I've said before I doubt i will live long enough to read all the books I want to read, because aside from the ones on my TBR list, I am sure there are hundreds more out there that if i did know about them, I would want to read them.
Currently reading again.
Love this book! If you like ancient history based on a true historical figure, Zenobia was a warrior and a queen.
Reading
and
. Very different stories that I am enjoying in different ways. One is on Kindle and I read while working out and the other is a hardback for when I'm lazing at home.
Darn you!!! Now I've had to go add another book to my TBR!!! LOL And I'm still typing away at my grandfather's letters... handwriting... gggnnuuhhh... what does that say??? OH! Now it makes sense... LOL
