Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments I am reading Bones Never lie be Kathy Reichs as on of the penultimate Tempe Brennon books I will do. I found another similar author Aaron Elkins to try Nd I have Maitland's The Vanising Witch waiting in the wings. Also got about 6 on my kindle.

message 5707: by Louise (new)

Louise | 51 comments I've gone back to basics with a quick whisk through Treasure Island. Last time I read it, I was a kid - I've been reading a lot of Stevenson this year, so I thought I'd pay this one another visit. It's such a sparkling read - lovely and pacey, but with just the right amount of description. It's lovely to reread it now I've got a better understanding of 18th century history, too - and I'm amazed how much has stayed with me through the years. I had a similar reaction to The Eagle Of The Ninth when I reread it after 30 years - I almost felt I had deja vu at times.

Lariela | 187 comments Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke by Susanna Clarke. It is a re-read, as I recently found my copy.

message 5709: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I have not been reading a whole lot of HF lately. Only 3 of my last 20 actually.

I am catching up with Cato & Macro, I finished Praetorian by Simon Scarrow and I have The Blood Crows out from the library while waiting for the newest book to be processed by my library and sent to me.

I have just finished #3 in the Sister Fidelma series Suffer Little Children and the next one is winging it's way to me through ILL.

I also started a new series The Winter Queen by Boris Akunin. I really like this author, he writes very interesting stories.

C.P. Lesley (cplesley) | 564 comments The Last Romanov. Trying to forget that I ever took a Russian history course, never mind became a specialist in the subject, lest I explode through spontaneous combustion.

It's fun, though—even if Ninotchka (the movie) is more realistic. ;-)

message 5713: by Victor (last edited Nov 05, 2014 11:14PM) (new)

Victor Bruneski | 124 comments I also started The First Man in Rome (Masters of Rome, #1) by Colleen McCullough

message 5714: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) Continuing my way through the Roma Sub Roma novels with Catilina's Riddle. I just finished Arms of Nemesis and I didn't think it was as strong as some of the other Gordianus stories.

message 5717: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) That looks good Darcy. I added it to my list. Being part Viking (that's where the red hair comes from), I rather enjoy a good Viking story.

C.P. Lesley (cplesley) | 564 comments Having finished The Last Romanov without expiring from excessive chortling (a person born with an opal eye that fractures—are you kidding me?), I am dithering between Sight Reading, by Daphne Kalotay, and The Oracle of Stamboul. More soon.

message 5735: by Linda (last edited Nov 13, 2014 08:22AM) (new)

Linda Laher. | 32 comments SILK ROAD was a group read. After reading it, Mr. Iggulden just had to learn to share my affections with Mr. Falconer. (Does he not favor a young Peter O'Toole?) Presently reading Knight of Jerusalem: A Biographical Novel of Balian D'Ibelin by Helena P. Schrader.

message 5736: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) It was a group read some 17 months ago.....I might be a little behind there!

Interesting that you compare it with Iggulden who I dislike though. I quite enjoyed Silk Road! :)

message 5737: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I am listening to The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Looks like it shall be some very depressing distopia, I really like it so far though!
