He saw the look of fear flash in her eyes, as she looked at the knives. Without saying another word, he set them under the couch cushions. "Only for safety." He smiled reassuringly.

Again, she nodded. She'd probably nodded three times in a row without saying anything. She cautiously sat on the same couch as him, but careful not to get too close, not wanting to annoy him or anything.
He looked at her out of the corner of his eye. "Do... Do you want something to eat or drink then?" Wringing his hands as he talked, he couldn't help but glance her way.
"No, I'm still pretty full from breakfast earlier." She gave him a shy smile. "Which was delicious, by the way. Give your mother a hug for me."
He shrugged, like it was the millionth time he's heard the compliment. "She's always been a good cook. God forbid if anything happened to her." He looked towards the kitchen where his mother was washing the dishes, a sad, far away look crossed through his eyes.
She looked where he was looking, and then the whole purpose of her being in this world came rushing back to her. "I wonder if I'll be able to find mine."
Kal's sighed sadly, shifting his blue eyes toward her. "I'm sure you will." He smiled, a cute half-lifting of his mouth.
Katia shrugged. "I don't even know where to start." She pulled her legs to her chest and hugged them, sighing. "My mother was the whole reason I was taken here. I need to find her."
Kal put a warm hand over her knee. "We'll find her, we just need to let you rest up and get better again." He pointed to her injury. "That needs time to heal."
"Yeah, I guess." She looked at her injury as if noticing it for the very first time. "I hardly even feel it anymore, though."
"That's one of the salve's side effects. It causes the applied around to go numb for a bit." He shrugged as if was the most boring thing in the word, as he took his hand away. "It'll go away soon, don't worry."
Kal rubbed her back soothingly, rubbing cautiously up under her hair. "You're very tense. You need to relax." His eyes gazed at her, concerned.
"I know, it's just..." She shut her eyes tighter. "I wanna go home..." she whispered, sounding very much like a little girl, but that was exactly how she felt in this world: small. Weak. An easy target.
He noticed how sad and afraid she sounded, how small her voice was. His eyes burned while they turned a darker blue, as if her sorrow slammed into him. Scooting across the couch closer to her, he wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "I know... I know."
She stayed there, a little stiff for a while, before relaxing and slightly leaning into him, careful not to like it too much, although his arm around her felt so....safe. She could only imagine how it would feel if both his arms are around her.
He didn't want to go to far with her, by completely enfolding her in his arms the way he wanted to just then. But as she leaned into him, he felt some sort of...protective urge rise in his chest for her. He felt his eyes dart from green, to purple, then back to brown.
She didn't move another inch, afraid Kal would get annoyed if she got closer to him. And she didn't want to seem desperate for someone to hold her, even though she was. She so deeply wanted Kal to hold her.
Kal sensed her leaning a bit more closer, or the feeling that she wanted to. He didn't mind one bit, as he wrapped his other arm around her, bringing her in even closer to his chest. He also pressed his cheek into her hair, smelling his mother's peach wash.
It surprised her when he wrapped both arms around her, and immediately the feeling of safeness took over her. His arms around her was so warm, she couldn't help but rest her head on his chest and cuddle closer, closing her eyes. Every little bit of worry and sadness in her seemed to fade.
He let one hand cup the side of her head softly, stroking her hair with his thumb. He felt as if someone hadn't held her like this in a long time, the way she leaned even closer into him. A tide of care for this girl sudden overwhelmed him even to tighten his arms around her.
"Why does this feel so right?" she whispered, burying her face in his chest, breathing in his warm, musky scent.
He didn't mean to, but he pulled her in even closer. The muscles in his biceps wanting to strain to pull her against him more. What are you doing? This is the half-breed everyone wants to kill. He opened his eyes and stared out the windows and into the woods, at his father and younger brother played stick fighting. I won't let them harm her. Was all he thought.
They stared there for what felt like hours, and Katia was surprised that Kal hadn't let go of her yet. Eventually, in the comfort of his arms, she fell asleep.
Kal leaned back into the couch, as he held her like that, keeping her out of harm's way. He wanted to tell her that it did feel right to him, but he didn't know why it did. It just...did. Another thought of him kissing her passed through his mind, but he knew that she wouldn't tolerate going that far.
After a long while her eyes fluttered open, and she looked up, nearly gasping when she realized how close Kal's lips were to hers. She smiled shyly at him. "Hi."
"Hi," he said in return, smiling as well. The way she looked just then, was very beautiful, he realized with a strong urge to brush his hand across her cheek. "Sleep well?"
"Mhm," she said sleepily, shivering at the sound of his deep voice that she secretly loved. "You make a decent pillow."
He laughed softly, as he twirled a strand of her hair around his finger softly. "Well, I'm here if you need me." He said the words before he could stop himself, as a soft burn spread across his cheeks.
Her heart fluttered at his kind words. She should have let go of him by now, but she couldn't. She didn't want to. Ever. Instead, she leaned her head back onto his chest, resting it under his chin. She fit snugly against him.
He let his arms tighten around her, as she settled back into his embrace. Closing his eyes, as he breathed in her scent, he drifted off every now and then. Soon, it was night time again.
Katia awoke to the scent of food, and lifted her head slightly. She realized that Kal's mother was smiling at her from the kitchen and she started to move away from Kal's arms, her face blushing and clearing her throat constantly.
Kal was wide awake when Katia woke up, rising off his chest. He had been watching his mother cook dinner for the past hour, asking every now and then if she needed help. But she only replied with a "No," then pointed to his chest as Katia slept. "Your hands are full now." When he had blushed, she laughed cheerfully at him. Now he watched her look at his mother, clearly smelling the food. "Hungry?"
He smiled, as he nodded a few times. "Indeed." He rose up from the couch, and walked over to the kitchen, but not before latching his hand onto Katia's wrist. "Mom's this is Katia. Just so you know her name." He blushed, as he watched his mother grip Katia's hand softly."A pleasure, dear. My name is Serine Silver." Serine's touch was very gentle on Katia, as she did her best not to scare the poor girl, as much as she probably already was.
Katia nodded and shook her hand. "Nice to meet you, Mrs. Silver. I appreciate you letting me stay here. I don't want to be too much trouble, though."
Serine's eyes bulged, shaking her head before Katia had finished. "No, no, sweetie! It's a pleasure that you're here. Kal was good by bringing you here to heal and whatnot." She smiled and turned around, going back to her cooking, as she started to hum.Kal's eyes brightened at his mother's kindness toward Katia. He sat down at the dinner table, patting the seat next to him for her to sit down. As she did, the rest of his family wandered in through the front door. His father, brother, and sister all sat down at the table, smiling in Katia's direction kindly.
Katia sat a little too close to Kal, a little unsettled and nervous about sitting there with his whole family. She felt like an outsider. An intruder, even.
Kal placed a hand on Katia's knee, running his thumb over the thin material of her hunter's pants. He could sense her nervousness about a mile away. He hoped that he touched soothed her somewhat. Although, he had to take his hand away then, because his mother was now placing the pots of food on the table. It looked like we were having corn, mashed potatoes, spaghetti, and bread rolls.
Kal's touch immediately relaxed her, and when the food came, she licked het lips in anticipation, realizing how starving she was.
Kal almost giggled at the fierce hungry look on her face. Once their plates were filled up, he took his hand away from her lap and dug in. "Mmm, momma, this is good." He said around a mouthful, making his mother chuckle.
Katia devoured the food, savoring every bit and moaning audibly with her mouth full. "Any compliments I say would all be understatements."
His whole family let out a chorus of laughter, as his mother blushed furiously. Kal's mother was a sweet and kind women, taking in anybody in need if she were able too. They kept eating until another round of food found their way to the family's plates.
((Sorry this is late. Kinda got caught up on reading, then made breakfast. :3))Kal chuckled as well, letting his fork drop onto his plate loudly. "Me neither." He sighed, as he tilted his head back against the headrest of the chair.
"I think I'm going to lie down." Katia stood and flashed a genuine smile at Mrs. Silver. "Dinner was lovely. Goodnight everyone." She nodded at the others and lingered her gaze on Kal for a while before walking back to her room.
Kal felt her gaze stay on him a little bit longer, as if telling him to go with her. He happily obliged, getting up to follow her, not thinking twice about what his family would think at the gesture.
Katia was about to close her door when she noticed Kal had followed her. Her eyes widened in surprise, and she could've sworn his eyes weren't purple before... "Oh Kal, did you need something?"
