Eva Dillner (eva_dillner) | 0 comments The book A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute has many editions. I can't figure out how to merge/combine a stray by Nevil Shute Norway. All that is listed is the books
ASIN
B000PQIUPQ
How does this work? Newbie in this... noticed it as I've just read the book and was going to write review.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments First of the primary author has to be the same:

Nevil Shute vs Nevil Shute Norway - cannot combine books as they live on different profiles.

The ASIN edition looks like it is a left over from a import bug back in June/July since only Kindle, Audio books use them.

I have removed the ASIN from this edition but left the edition since it has a different publication date than the other editions

You also have to be a librarian to combine books

Caro | 177 comments I was wanting to know if there is a way to combine books that don't have the same 'primary' or first author. I was going thru a series and adding books, but some don't show up. The series is a 2-in-1, so there are two authors. I can combine the 2-in-1 book with the first authors original book, but not the second. Is it better just to have the 2-in-1 book not combined to any of it's original titles or is there a way to combine it with the second author's original title too. This thread is kinda what I was looking for, if not can someone direct me to the right one, I haven't found it. Thanks.

No.

And 2-in-1 books should never be combined with editions that only have one of the two books, only with other editions that contain the same two books. This is true whether both books are by the same author or two different authors.

In fact, on the right side of every combine page, under the general guidelines, it says:

don't combine:
* 2-in-1 books or boxed sets that include the given book.

Caro | 177 comments Ok, thanks, i've found a lot of books that are 2 in 1 and they are combined with ONE of the books within the 2 in 1. Would it be OK for me to go ahead and fix these so they aren't combined to any one book within the 2 in 1?

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Yes they should be separated - feel free to post links if your not sure

Laurens (lvdb) | 3 comments Since I don't want to create a new thread, and this one is basically about the same sort of question, I'll ask it here: I have a version of Tao Teh Ching, the Dover Thrift Editions. I've looked it up and there's another version of it (with the same ISBN-10: 0486297926 and ISBN-13: 9780486297927). What to do? I can't create a new edition, because the ISBN's are already taken. Can't find my version of it either (with this cover: http://www.amazon.com/Tao-Ching-Dover...). Help please!

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments You need to add an alternate cover edition with the ISBN in the ISBN field. Add wording like "Alternate Cover edition for ISBNxxxxxx)

http://www.goodreads.com/help/librari...

Edit: Also add a librarians note indicating it is an alternate cover edition - that way it should not get deleted "

Laurens (lvdb) | 3 comments Great, it worked! I also used the Amazon-cover-trick for the first time, glad I figured that out as well.

Ernest Vidal (ernest_vidal) | 2 comments Please, these books should be combined:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

The first one is the Kindle Edition. Furthermore, the cover of printed version must be the same as that of the digital version.

Thanks,
Ernest

Please start new threads, rather than bumping ones that are several years old.
