I do the 2 credits per month plan because otherwise I would use all my credits immediately - I do listen to more than 2 books a month generally but I make use of the sales and often buy extra credits when they are offered. Plus I'd rather not fork out such a huge chunk of cash all at once and I quite enjoy the exchange rate roulette (I'm in Australia so it's a gamble how much my monthly credits actually cost me)

.....yes, exactly... a 24 annual credit plan plus "buy four and get $10" is the most economical way to develop a nice library of audible books. That's what I'm doing myself. Then fill in with the $4.95/audiobook sales that are offered throughout the year.

John | 3920 comments Right now, I have 16 un-heard books (239 hours total) plus 2 available credits.

I'm in my third "year" of platinum annual membership and my renewal date has crept up a few months earlier for me. However, I try to check books I can from the library and reserve my credits for books unavailable from the library (with some exceptions).

I share books with my mother (who is not currently an audible member). I've just gotten her into listening to audiobooks and I simply enabled her computer on my account and downloaded books from my library that I thought she'd enjoy onto her computer. As far as I can tell you have two choices in order to share: either you download files onto the other person's computer yourself or you trust them enough to give them your audible account info so that they can download the files themselves. (I do trust my mother, she's just not that technically savvy so it was easier for me to do the downloading for her).

John, I'm currently reading Ghost Hero. The author's sister is a friend of mine so I always try to give her books a good plug. Most of them are fairly well done. I've never listened to one. Did you enjoy or are you enjoying it?

John | 3920 comments I liked the previous one as an audiobook quite a lot; William Dufris did a terrific job with the narration. It'll be a while before I get to Ghost Hero, which is narrated by a female reader - being a Lydia Chin, not Bill Smith p.o.v. book - still the sample seemed fine, and I'm looking forward to it. Years ago, I wrote the author about two quibbles with a story, and she replied promptly, "You're right!"

JanBreesmom (goodreadscomjanbreesmom) | 34 comments My next audiobooks to get from my wisg list are 'The Summer Knight:The Dresden Tales, 4' by Jim Butcher. I'm really enjoying this series and the narrator is just perfect for this character. After that will be 'Beautiful Darkness, Beautiful Creatures, Book 2'; another series i enjoy.

I do the annual plan in fact I usually end up renewing early! They always give me 25 credits and I usually go thru them like water! I have over 800 audio books in my collection and I love the ease of direct download to my iPhone. I have the 64gb 4s & LOVE the fact that I can have MANY MANY MANY downloaded all the time. Because I read and listen to more than one at a time ..I always have something from each favorite genre and or author going and have my kindle loaded as well as my physical books everywhere drives my kids crazy! Since you cant download without wifi I love that no matter where I am I always have a huge selection to choose from for whatever mood I'm in. I am a true addict I will admit to that! 99.9% of the time you can find me reading or listening! I never thought I would like audio books and I put off trying them for a long time but since there are so many books I want to read and other things that need doing I gave it a try and never looked back! It's like having a movie playing in your head! There are so many fantastic narrators who's skills can bring the book alive!

I really enjoyed The Marriage Plot on audio. Those hours flew by.

I'm a Platinum audible member, too, and have been for several years now. You're response sounds like me, in that I too was a huge reader and resisted audiobooks. Once I tried them, I was hooked immediately and, in fact, within months started planning to leave my print publishing job to establish an audiobook company, Post Hypnotic Press. It's still early days, but I love it.

Like you, I've usually got more than one book on the go at any one time, as well as the books I'm producing. I rarely use my membership to purchase books I've produced and often take advantage of the buy four get a $5 credit deals, too.

You are so very welcome. I was so thrilled to find it was approved to share with my sister, who lives in Tennessee.

Thank you for the info, Fustian. Between you and Shirley, I'm loving my Audible.com free trial even more. I believe the continued membership option will be on my birthday wishlist! Not only can I download my favorites, I can share with a dear friend who is also enjoying a trial membership. Squeeee!

John | 3920 comments Audible's version of The Ha-Ha is abridged - get ahold of the unabridged version from Recorded Books, which is one of the best books I've ever listened to!

message 65: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3920 comments I listened to it ripped from CD's.
