Deb, the book was so good, I purchased another one in the Oxford History of the United States series.

I just received it the other day from Amazon.

I might start it in the fall or winter. That is my Grand Expectations at least. ;)

Good luck! I suspect you'll learn much, even though you lived through some of those years. Sometimes when i read a sort of history book about a time when i was alive i'm surprised at the small things which ring bells. Usually, it's pop culture sort of things but sometimes it's a minor news event which swept the country or world for a few days, then vanished.
