This makes perfect sense...I think he kinda ended up with her by default. I was indifferent to her, but the scenes in the movie between Harry and her were horrible and made me not like her much. I'm embarrassed for them every time I watch it.

No, that bothered me too. A major theme of the books was discrimination, and I kind of felt like the Slytherin was being discriminated against in the sense that they were never shown as anything but racist little jack offs with the exception of one or two people, and that's not fair.

What bums me out is that Rowling had a concept for a good character to be in Slytherin, a cousin of Ron's whose father was a squib, but she had to drop the character because she couldn't make it work well.

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ I like Ginny as a character, I think the personality helped the story, but I don't like their relationship. It was REALLY awkward.

I don't like her... well I liked her at the start then she got a bit .... well .... obsessive. and I think Harry should of ended up with Luna she's awesome! BUT NOT CHO!

Mas5thgrade2012 I dont like Ginny that much because...

1. Every summer my cousin wants me to call her Ginny
2. She is not the best looking
3. I think harry and Herminie should be a cupple, I guess her and Ron is OK, but Harry is better for her

I love this theory! At first I was going to post that it was cute in the beginning when Ginny had a crush on Harry and couldn't talk around him, but that it never took off for me. BUT now I can't help but think that maybe that's why J.K. Rowling put them together.

Brenda Kirton Katherine wrote: "I don't understand everyone saying "she used to be really quiet and all the sudden she's outgoing and pretty and popular." It was EXPLAINED in the books, that she wouldn't talk or be herself around..."In the early books Harry never really noticed Ginny other than the little sister of his friend. But when she starting kissing other guys (snogging) then he noticed her as a girl who was growing up. i do feel her part in the movies didn't show her in the same light as the books. Her character had no depth in the movies. They even left out where she confronted Harry over him feeling he was possessed by Voldemort. I think this contributed to them getting closer.

I thought they should pair up as well.

I loved that part because it shows how she doesn't put up with Harry's BS.

message 60: by Jazz (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jazz Just about everyone hit it on the nail. She wasn't developed, but not only that, I really don't think she's the best love-interest for Harry. I don't mind the pairing, but I think a Harry-Cho, Harry-Hermione, and Harry-Luna would be more complex and interesting. Not to mention the development of them all would be much easier to swallow then Harry's chest monster. I don't know if I would call her a Mary-Sue, but I can see where those who do call her that are coming from. I do feel that Rowling wrote to make it very easy for the audience to love her. That's where the under-development comes in.

message 61: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Okay all I have to say is, I'm not trying to offend anyone, you just feel what you feel, but...Harry and Hermione? REALLY? This is one of those things that needs to be left ALONE. For ONCE there is a boy/girl close friendship that is UNTOUCHED by even the thought of romance. It can happen. Here is proof. I think they have a wonderful, very cute relationship as friends, particularly in the later books.

And just because J.K. Rowling didn't want to get into the romance aspect enough to show all Ginny's shortcomings, etc. can't we just appreciate it for what it is? We're seeing Ginny through Harry's eyes; he's a teenage guy falling in love, so naturally for right now, he's focused on the positives.
Harry thinks she's beautiful and talented and funny, etc. So that's how she's going to be portrayed to us. Maybe if it were from some girl's point of view, she wouldn't be alll that.

message 62: by Hina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hina You know I wouldn't have minded if Harry got married to an unknown character or someone else, but just not Ginny.

True, but even in a teenage relationship, there are things about one another that irk you about one another. It's what they complain to their friends about which in turn gives their friends a great laugh :D

J. Bush Ginny Weasley is the characterization equivalent of watery milk. Bland, flavorless, pale and something you want to forget once you've experienced it.

Harry should have married Hermione...

LOL, not sure I agree but that is funny!

Mitchie Taylor wrote: "I liked her in the beginning, but as time wore on, I realized I couldn't stand her. I thought that Harry should have ended up with a Slytherin. Of course it would have to been set up in other books..."

OH MY GOSH she is sooooo annoying! She was okay in the beginning when she was never mentioned and didn't speak but after she started getting involved she really started irritating me.

message 67: by Ciara (last edited Dec 20, 2011 09:24AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ciara Hm. Yes, I like Ginny. I thought she was great at first, but eventually,I lost interest just the slightest bit. It's not because of the way she was portrayed by Bonnie in the films, it's just the whole character. She was an OK character, and I wouldnt have much against her, but she's not my favourite.
Oh, and I too would have liked to see Harry with some-one like Luna. Neville would have been good with her too. She's a well-rounded character.

Valerie She was annoying but she seemed to be the only one going through the standard teenage problems. That was missed in the movie.

message 69: by Chey (new) - rated it 4 stars

Chey Ginny is AWESOME! I love Ginny. She's one of my favorite characters. And I LOVED her and Harry. I can see why you wouldn't like her or her with Harry, but I love it. And Cho? Don't even get me started about her! She is annoying, stupid, selfish, and I can't believe how nice she was to her stupid friend who ratted out the DA! She was SO stupid! And she's sitting there balling over her dead boyfriend! Oh, SO retarded. Sorry Cho fans, (if there are any,) but she's just all out terrible. And SUCH a drama queen.

Chey Badgerlord wrote: "I think dating someone who idolises you is not cool. Seriously, shooting fish in a barrel. Still, Ron + Hermoine is great."

I <3 Ron+Hermione. I love how at first they kinda fight a bunch, but in the end they like each other. And Ron HATED Hermione in the first book before they saved her from the troll, and when Hermione goes to the dance with Victor Crum, and Ron's all jealous cause he likes Hermione, then he goes out with Lavender Brown, and they're always kissing and stuff and Hermione starts ignoring him. Yeah, It's a great book! :D

Kimber Noelle Ginny was a little bit obsessive.

And she poped out of nowhere half the time.

message 72: by Elle (new) - added it

Elle I don't like her that much either. I don't think her character was as developed as the other characters in the book or at least made her as interesting. She was like a wallpaper in the movies, too.

Being upset about your boyfriend being murdered doesn't make you a drama queen.

message 75: by Chey (new) - rated it 4 stars

Chey Well yeah, I know, but she was even trying to make Harry talk about it even though that really isn't a subject a person wants to discuss and then bursting into tears whenever his name is mentioned or even if she mentions it. Oi! It's okay if you like her, and that I'm just being dumb what. Everyone has different opinions.

It's fine if you dislike her, I don't love her. It just annoys me when people act like she had some kind of responsiblity to be strong for Harry, when she had every right to be upset.

Kathy Lautenschlager I really liked her in the books. The movies did not do reflect her very well. Sorry to be a perfectionist people, but the spelling is not "FLUER" it is FLEUR.

message 78: by Chey (new) - rated it 4 stars

Chey Yeah, I guess you are kinda right.

Kathy Lautenschlager For those of you who wanted Harry and Hermione together. It wouldn't have worked. Harry needed her support as a FRIEND, not as a girlfriend. Those two relationships are vastly different.

message 80: by Chey (new) - rated it 4 stars

Chey YES!

Proathlete16 I think Harry would have been way better off with Cho, Hermione, or even Luna.

Stefanie Câmara Manoel Haha you guys crack me up...:)

Nichole Wolfe I like Ginny's character in the books (the movies did her no justice). However, even in the books I didn't like Harry with Ginny. I would never split up Ron and Hermione. Those two are just too perfect for each other. I would have liked Harry with someone else tho. Not Cho, for sure. She was a humongous crybaby the entire fifth book, which annoyed me. I personally like Luna for Harry. I think her quirkiness would have kept Harry on his toes. lol.

Nichole Wolfe I totally get having Harry get with a Slytherin. You know, unite the houses. Blah, blah. Unfortunately, Rowling never gave us a decent Slytherin (boy or girl) to even consider.

Nicole Rusli She kind of annoyed me in the first few books, but once she started casting amazing spells, I realized that she was an example of a brave girl, which I like. Plus she is way better than Cho, so I am quite satisfied that she married Harry. Oh and why was Cho in the school uniform in the deathly hallows? Isn't she supposed to be a graduate?

Clara i THINK that she was in the "grade" as Harry so...

Nicole Rusli It was stated in PoA that she was a fourth year and Harry was only a 3rd year then. Back to Ginny! Haha.

Clara Nicole wrote: "It was stated in PoA that she was a fourth year and Harry was only a 3rd year then. Back to Ginny! Haha."

oops!!

Nichole Wolfe @ Stephanie: I meant that Rowling didn't give us any decent Slytherin to consider. There are NO Slytherins close to Harry's age during the series that isn't cast as a mean, snobbish jerk. She just never introduced one.

message 99: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy I really liked Ginny, I think she's a strong character and I love how she 'gives up' on Harry to make him notice her! And I think she's one of the only girl characters that actually understands Harry and Hermione's relationship isn't romantic, that annoyed my about Cho (I didn't like her at all!).
