Feeling a bit lost, overwhelmed, or new to Goodreads? Read on for descriptions of the Folders in this group:

Welcome: Introduce yourself in the topics, Introductons and Getting to Know You, ask questions and or post suggestions in the Group Roundtable topic.

Writers Corner: For all discussion topics about writing and writers. Please note, while there are promotion threads in this folder, we do have separate folders as well for things such as freebies, contests, new book releases, book blurbs, writing services, etc.

Reading Room: For all topics about reading, discussing books, and book recomendations.

Social Media Sites: This folder is for the posting of your social media sites. We have topics for the posting of Facebook links, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, Blogs and Websites, Instagram, and one catch-all topic for any other site you may wish to list.

Author Profiles: Post your author Profile and tell us what you write and who you are.

New Book Releases: This folder is to announce a new or upcoming book, and introduce it to the group. Please don't post books more than a couple of months old, and be sure to include a description and a link to the book.

Book Blurbs: For posting and promoting your book synopsis.

Reviews and Review Requests: Post your reviews, all review requests, your thoughts on reviews. Again, post in available topics or make yourself a new one.

Book Sales or Discounts: To post any books which are being offered for a discount or currently on sale. Do Not Post your free books here. Post them in Free Books and Giveaways.

Free Books and Giveaways: Post all your contests (or someone else's), giveaways or free books, online stories, excerpts, etc. in this folder. DO NOT POST REVIEW REQUESTS IN THIS FOLDER. PLEASE POST YOUR TEMPORARY AMAZON FREEBIES HERE.

Beta Readers: Please place requests for beta readers for your unpublished manuscripts here. No review requests for published books.

Reading Nook: For stories, poems, excerpts and non-fiction you'd like to share with the group. This folder is for the actual writing, not links, but there is a topic thread within the folder where you can post links to your writing elsewhere. Adding links to your writing here is fine, but please keep the promotion in this folder to a minimum; we don't want to overshadow the reading.

Events: Post all events here. This folder is for interviews, blog tours, book signings, sales, whatever. Post in available topics or make yourself a new one.

Anthologies: For writers who have stories appearing, or going to appear, in an anthology. Also for listing anthologies open for submissions.

Writing Services: For posting a service such as editing, book cover design, etc.

Marketing and Promotion: For ideas, questions, tips and tricks about marketing books or posting writing services. Do not promote your books or yourself in this folder. There are topic threads in the Writers Folder for that.

Also, the group home page may only list some of the discussions available in these folders, so if you want to browse all topics click the folder title to see the full list.

ARCHIVED FOLDERS:

W&R Book Club: The folder contains the discussions for our defunct Book Club. For Book Club Discussions ONLY. Note: Featured Books are still active and NOT part of the Book Club.

Writers Q & A: The archive of our group Q&A discussion.

Featured Book Spotlights: For the books of members I spotlight in the group. Please no other posting here

Pamela Clark (pamelaclark) | 1 comments I hope I am posting this in the correct section. I have a serious question, How do I know members are actually reading my posts? I have been a member for quite some time and have "friend-ed" other members, watched their videos, reviewed their books, welcomed new members, get updates on wanting to be their friends, and yet it seems not one person has visited my site. I have posted updates and added a new video and still nothing. Is it possible I am not posting my information or invites correctly? I am known to work and play well with others on other sites, but to date I am not happy with Goodreads. Any and all ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

We do have another topic for Goodreads questions, but posting here will do for now.

You can see the views of each post somewhere under the title. For instance, I posted a topic here in the Anthologies Folder called Twisted Shorties; it had 35 views.
Marketing and promotion can be hard, but there are things you can do to increase your visibility on the site. Start some discussion topics in your groups, link in your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts (if you haven't already). And take advantage of opportunities in your groups (here we have folders for an Author Profile, Book Blurbs, Book Listings, New Releases, Freebies, etc.) Post events (blog tours, new releases, etc.) not just to your Goodreads friends but to groups that might be interested. Make your own Q & A discussion group (and that's a great place to post events). Take advantage of the Goodreads lists.

It may look like a lot, but it's not too hard to navigate I hope. We just have folders for different writerly things, like posting reviews, events, book sales, etc. But we also have a general folder to talk writing, the Writers folder, and if you want to talk reading, post in the Readers folder.
There's also a book club, currently reading the Book Thief, and our monthly featured books, where I spotlight four books by group authors.
And don't worry too much about posting, if something ends in the wrong folder, as moderator I usually just move it to where it belongs (and generally make a mention that I have moved it in the comments).

Cathy Tully (ectully) Hi,
Have you given up on the book club? Shouldn't we be nominating?

The book club has been discontinued, due to the continued lack of participation in the discussions. It's unfortunate, but the majority of this group doesn't seem to be interested in a book club.

I just checked your page – found no way to friend you, so I clicked follow.

Please post book promotion in the designated folders as outlined in the above post and NOT here.
