Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Every now and then I pick up several books at once and find in some way they intersect. At the moment I'm reading Evenings With Cary Grant: Recollections in His Own Words and by Those Who Knew Him Best Evenings With Cary Grant Recollections in His Own Words and by Those Who Knew Him Best by Nancy Nelson and Once Upon a Time Behind the Fairy Tale of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier by J. Randy Taraborrelli Once Upon a Time: Behind the Fairy Tale of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier where the connection between the two is obvious. I find I'm also drawn to start Fellow Travelers Fellow Travelers by Thomas Mallon which if I recall what I read about it correctly is also about the 1950s. Hoping to make some headway into that tonight so we'll see.

Great review Dem! I admit I'm a bit ignorant and thought this was an adult book - if I wasn't on a book buying ban, I'd hunt this down!

Kimberly | 2033 comments I'm reading The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain for a buddy read in another group.
I've never read this author so I'm trying to get used to her writing.

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments I like Diane Chamberlain - and I have this book on my TBR but have never gotten to it....

I'm going a bit all over the place with what I'm currently reading (yeah, 4 books at once, again!)

Do you have a copy of it? Because you can have mine if you don't when I'm done with it :)

I have read several by her and at one time she was one of my favorites until I couldn't find anymore books by her lol : ) I may have to try this one out.

OHHHHHH that would be awesome : ) I would love to have it. So sweet of you...just let me know what I owe you in shipping and I would be more than glad to get the $$$ to you : )

message 2761: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Don't worry about the shipping silly! It's only $5.

message 2762: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Ok ty : ) I am a silly willy nilly sometimes. Although it's only $5 that could be more books for you : ) I am going to try to put up a shelf of "up for grabs books" soon and if you see anything that I have I will return the favor to you : ) I will continually add to it as I read my "own" books. I don't keep books after I read them as I rarely re-read them.

Kimberly | 2033 comments YAY! Let me know when it's up.

message 2764: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Maybe we should revive the Swap Shop thread. I'll have to start thinking about what I'm going to do with all my paperbooks later this year in preparation for my move back to Aus, so there'll be a lot of homeless books on my shelves. (Don't worry, I don't have many zombie books in paperback LOL)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Kimberly wrote: "YAY! Let me know when it's up."

I most definitely will...and of course when it goes up I plan to cover all the shipping as I would rather see a friend get the book opposed to just dumping them off at the Goodwill : )

Kimberly | 2033 comments I read The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick in an hour and a half. I loved the illustrations and I thought the book was unique unfortunately the stor fell short for me so I'm only giving this one 3.5 stars.

Don't do it Kat! I lived in London for 4 years and collected lots of books while I was there. When I left, I sold my books to a second hand store. I've regretted it ever since, spending the last 10 years of my life trying to find them again. Saying that, it might be financially unfeasible to ship them back to Aus.

Remember to pack a hard hat, a first aid kit and food and water before you venture into the boxes!

I shudder to think how much it would cost to ship them. I will be taking all my favourites, signed copies etc.

But that just got me thinking - there's boxes and boxes of books at my dad's from when I first moved here. How much fun is it going to be when I unpack those after five years?!

message 2780: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Sorry for hijacking this thread with thoughts of all those books.

I'm currently reading Tag - the synopsis sounds like something I wouldn't enjoy, but it's actually got me hooked!

Kimberly | 2033 comments I finished I Dare to Say African Women Share Their Stories of Hope and Survival by Hilda Twongyeirwe this broke my heart but the strength the women have is so inspiring. I wish I could give each woman a hug. I definetly recommend this one. 4 stars.
Now... I'm going to go back to France for a bit in My Life in France by Julia Child and something else...not sure yet.

Venuskitten | 10 comments I am a quarter of the way through The Art of Fielding by Chad Horbach and really enjoying it. This is one of those rare books that I can't wait to finish to find out what happens to the characters, but at the same time I don't want to get to the end because it is so well written and enjoyable, and I don't want to leave the people in it. The characters are believable and three dimensional, and the plot (judging by what I have read so far) is totally credible. I don't know very much about baseball or the US education system, but that hasn't affected my enjoyment. I think it will be hard to find a better book than this one in 2012.
