Yes, yes, very intentional. I am trying to read some books that will work both for Food and AtW. :D

I'm reading
it's alright nothing spectacular but it's a short read. I haven't been able to commit to anything over 200 pages yet this year. Anyone else go through times when they have to choose lighter/shorter books rather than devote time to a longer book?
I just finished
and am starting
. What a great triloloy! I'm recommending this to all my middle schoolers as
from a boy's view.
I finished
and gave it 1 star. It just wasn't for me. I also read and finished
which I gave 4 stars. I'm not sure why I liked it I just know that I did. Anyways I might start
but I'm not sure.

I'm reading a book I've owned for forever-- I bought it in hardback when it first came out and never read it till now--which means I've literally boxed it up and moved it about 8 or 10 times..... Evenings With Cary Grant: Recollections in His Own Words and by Those Who Knew Him Best
. I loved Grant's movies and I'm kind of in the mood for some light nonfiction.

I just bought The Child called It and The Lost Boy yesterday : ) I also read The Child Called It yesterday and am almost done with The Lost Boy. TY for sharing this info Amanda!!!

Yes, truly amazing.
This one brought a lot of questions to my mind and I am hoping to find some answers in the books to come. Truly an eye opener.
Currently reading: The Invisible Bridge, Agaat, Moby Dick, Duma Key, and The Sense of an Ending. Such a diverse group of books. I'm definitely going to need a very light, possibly comic, novel after this. Something about 200 pages would be good since 3 of these come in about 600 pages. I didn't plan my start-of-the-year reading very carefully. At least I'm almost 80% done with Moby Dick, which has been a very good read.
I am eager to start Chronicle in Stone: A Novel. I have read The Three-Arched Bridgeby this author and liked it, although I did not find it as good as The Bridge on the Drina by Ivo Andric. The two books are both about a bridge and about life that circles around it. This book I will be trying now concerns WW2 in Albania through a child's eye. I believe the writing will be excellent. Although it is historical fiction there are also biographical elements. I just completed Cathedral of the Sea, which I am very glad I read. Here follows my GR review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Sadly, I can't give it 6 weeks. Happily I'll be finished with Moby soon and am now 1/3 through Invisible Bridge --a wonderful book though meaty. Duma Key is also interesting and relatively easy reading. Sense of an Ending is luckily short. Agaat was the surprise. I didn't realize it's over 500 kindle pages and not at all light though it does appear to be lightening up a bit.

I am loving it : ) I rescued my dogs so this book is really touching my heart. Saturn, is a pit bull/dane mix and when I adopted her she had less than a week and her time was up. Murphy, is a pit bull/bull mastiff mix and when I adopted him he was 30 lbs under weight and had been abused and neglected. So the story of Oogy is touching home for me. So far I love it and can't wait to finish it :)
I'm off to the Antarctic for my Roughin' It read, and for one of the stops on my Around the World in 52 Books challenge. I'm starting Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage.
Judy wrote: "Kat wrote: "I'm still reading Far North - I WILL finish it today!"Another non-zombie, Kat? I'm impressed! :-)"
It's been four books since my last zombie book....I've nearly finished Far North (60 pages left) and I started reading The Wedding Gift about 3am this morning when I couldn't sleep!
Judy wrote: "Your self-control this month has been above admirable, Kat. No new books (minus Kindle freebies) and no Zombies....How do you do it? Thank goodness, Janice proclaimed it food month! :-)"I'm not looking at ANY books. Anywhere - only concentrating on what I already have - otherwise I'll crumble like a stale biscuit :)
Yes, without food month both my brain and my stomach would have starved!! :-D
Hurrah Far North is finally done. Now to continue with The Wedding Gift and then (or maybe at the same time as it is short stories) In the Middle of Almost and Other Stories
I finished Chronicle in Stone: A Novel. I absolutely enjoyed every minute reading it. I could not put this book down. Here follosw my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... It is worth every one of its five stars. If you choose to read something by this Nobel prize-winning author, do yourself a favor, read this! It is a child's eye view of war in the Albanian city Gjirokastër. After WW2, Envor Hoxha took power. His brutal long-lived Stalinist regime fell only in August 1991. Both the author and Hoxha have this city as their home! BTW you do NOT need to be interested in history to enjoy this bookNow I will go to Croatia and read The Tiger's Wife? I have heard such good things about this book, and I enjoyed the Kindle sample. I realize now that what is most important to me, more than plot, is an author's writing style.

Kat wrote: "Judy wrote: "Your self-control this month has been above admirable, Kat. No new books (minus Kindle freebies) and no Zombies....How do you do it? I can't even watch the trailers on TV about the movie. Too distressing.

The book is not actually distressing as it is aimed at 9-12 year old market so the war scenes are very age appropriate but it is educational, I have not seen the movie so am not able review that yet.

I read that one last week and loved it. I wish I read it when I was a kid.
